Another big day for Barclay Zac Jackson, Staff Writer 05.14.2007
Browns running back Chris Barclay's big season in NFL Europa continued last weekend.
Barclay rushed for a season-high 94 yards on 16 carries, spurred by a 52-yard run in the second quarter. His big game rushing came one week after he earned NFL Europa Special Teams Player of the Week honors after returning a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown. With 278 yards, Barclay is the second-leading rusher in NFL Europa and also ranks in the top five in total yards from scrimmage. His success in the return game has made him the leader in overall net yards..................................................
I know there is a big difference between NFL Europa and the NFL, but you have to feel good about what the kid has done so far.
I would like to see what he could do in the slot position as well as returning kicks and or punts.

I've been watching NFL Europe and like you said it isn't the NFL BUT...the kid looks tough. I've been pretty impressed with his running and kick return ability.

The key is he is showing big play ability...and that is the key.
While the D he faces isn't NFL quality, neither is the O. I would also say the speed he sees is pretty close to NFL level....I doubt teams are sticking these guys over there as prospects because they are slow....speed is probably a big part of why they are there in the hope their ability catches up with their speed.....if that makes any sense.
Get him in the slot and get him the ball with a little space and I think he could do something with it....having seen him a good amount while he was at Wake, I know he has the quickness and moves to work his way around a field.

He'll get invited to camp again,, hopefully, he'll do that well in the Preseason and open a few eyes and maybe stick around this time..
If not, it wasn't meant to be!

No, it's not the NFL. But doing well across the pond is a good sign. A better sign than not doing well over there.
He'll be in camp.

Just as an aside.. .he will definitely be in Training Camp as the team receives a roster exeption for each NFL Europa designee until I think the first cutdown date (or maybe it's the final cutown?? ..now I can't remember which)

I don't think it would be that hard to give Wright or Harrison a challenge. Frankly, the RB position is a frightening one at the moment.

I posted an update I think last week or the week before on the kid.
I have watched 2 of his games in Europa and part of another. He looks to be a nice change of pace back for us. I hope the kid sticks around at least for a back up. I'm excited for him, and I look forward to seeing him on Saturdays on NFL Network.

So he ran for 42 yards on his other 15 carries in NFLE. Thats sure doesn't sound very impressive to me.

I think one could cherry pick a few carries from many runners game totals and think things less impressive.
As I noted, he is showing big play ability.

He splits time with another back....get his carries up around 25 or so if he was full time and it might look a bit different.
And note.....in NFLE, most players split time to some degree as all the teams want their guys getting some work.
94 yards in a half doesn't sound that bad to me.

Doesn't it seem that if the FO had any interest in using Barclay as even our #3 RB in 2007 that they wouldn't have him running through Europe in May? Training camp is just around the corner and everyone knows 16 games is a long season for rookies & psuedo-rookies.
He's more likely to be exhausted by October than challenging for any playing time.
If the team had any intentions of playing him in 2007 he'd be sitting in Berea right now. JMO

One could view things that way if it were a trend..looking at it from the other side..if he continues to break off a big run every 15 -16 carries..thats good..

Maybe if it was 194. But seriously, I'm not going to get excited until te kid proves e can do it over here, in Amercia, in the NFL. That NFL Europa makes me laugh...

That's why his stats seem so bad. They really don't give a clear picture of what he can do because of that league in general. They've only had 3 100+ yard rushing days this season after 5 weeks of play. It's just not the same game over there.
If any of you DO get a chance to watch a Berlin game at least watch a few series and see what he can do. My only qualm with him is that he tends to do a few too many spin moves (which could be justified by having defenders in the backfield with him due to a horrendous OL). Other than that his quickness and footwork is pretty impressive and he has pretty solid catching ability as well (10 rec, 44 yards).

NFL Europe is like the retarded imbred cousin of the NFL...it's nothing more than a joke....
I hope Barclay does all right but I figure our running backs with be Wright, Harrison, and Lewis unless of course a trade happens...

Just remember - So far from the Browns Pre New Regime as well RAC/Savage.
NFLe is like the Kiss of Death - of course I can't remember anyone doing much over there except for a Safety last year.
We'll see this year. Barclay is about as successful as anyone has done. I would suspect at least he should have a shot as a Return specialist (punt specifically).

Sorry I mentioned it....
Not talking to you, but this board is beginning to become a waste of time. It's about the same as the Browns board.

NFL Europa uses a lot of 2 backs. Shared carries. They even rotate QB's at times. So 94 yards is a pretty good game.

So you expect me to get excited about a player playing in league where the CFL has probably put better players in the NFL...
I rate NFL Europe right up there with Arena Football and CFL
Yeah..Sorry that doesn't get my cheerios wet....

There is no debate that NFLE is soft. It would be interesting to see what Wright or Harrison could do in the position Barclay is in. I really don't see them doing much better. It's just a different game over there.

I would like to see him get a shot too. But I believe that if Harrison gets another shot this year he will show why they drafted him. His blocking was the cause of his limited play, but he is a threat in open space as is Barclay.
Can Barclay block? Can he pick up the blitz? Harrison was drafted, Barclay wasn't. There was a reason for that. With an Oline Harrison will show that he is the guy for 3rd down back.
Eferybody remembers his lack of blocking and his fumble, but he did produce a little when called upon. He was a rookie, IMO he will be much improved.
Funny thing reading this thread, this is exactly the conversation going on about Harrison last year.

For any interested people, Berlin is on live right now playing on NFL Network.
Barclay scored the first TD of the game on a 7 or 8 yard run.

I also just noticed WR Sanders is one of the starting wideouts for the Thunder. # 12
Brewster too for that matter for anyone who rembers him from (i think) l last preseason. before Green bay picked him up from us.

Yeah, Sanders starts for Berlin. I don't think he's done a whole lot, but Brewster seems to have had good games when I've watched. Green Bay did pick him up off of us.
