And here comes the posse.

"A rational person...."

No talk about the actual moves. No football discussion. Just go ahead and belittle a poster who doesn't agree w/you.

Pure brilliance. When you can't argue or debate w/logic, resort to name calling.

You're right. He is incommunicado for 4 games. Maybe Pryor was a Farmer guy so we took advantage of Farmer's absence? I can't think that's the case because that would cause some bad blood when Farmer comes back, I'd think.

I agree. You and others can bet before Farmer left he knew we needed another back and he and all ranked the roster and it was agreed that Pryor was the last roster spot....or the first to go. I doubt this new guy is going to purge the roster over the next 4 weeks.

Also, Pryor is a local favoriet, so as with others with a local flavor, the guy was a long shot from the beginning.

Pryor does down and out; questions fly

BOLT OUR OF THE BLUE
BEREA In the media world, one gets to the starting quarterback while the getting is good.

The No. 1 QB is available once a week. The crowd around him is never bigger than when a season is about to kick off.

This week was different. A smallish group greeted Josh McCown as he stepped to a portable podium at his Browns locker Wednesday.

A much larger crowd, about 15 feet away, pressed around fourth-string wide receiver Terrelle Pryor.

Less than 24 hours later, Pryor was released.

Signed in June, Pryor made it through nearly 80 days, including two waves of cuts and four days of kickoff week. Then, boom, he was gone.
The Browns marked his release with no comment and 24 words: "The Cleveland Browns on Thursday claimed RB Robert Turbin via waivers from Seattle. To make room on the roster, the team waived WR Terrelle Pryor."

TWENTY QUESTIONS
Did some Browns view Pryor as a distraction? Did general manager Ray Farmer agree before starting a four-week suspension at 12:01 a.m. Monday that Pryor was fair game to be released? How much authority is wielded by acting GM Bill Kuharich, who chatted with owner Jimmy Haslam on the field at the start of practice Wednesday?

What is head coach Mike Pettine's role in this landscape? Are the key men in the organization on the same page?

Those questions are as important as giving up on a player who couldn't make it as an NFL quarterback and looking for a team.

A DISTRACTION?

Pryor didn't ask for attention, but as a former quarterback who came to a stormy end at Ohio State and was of great intrigue as a wide receiver project, it came to him.

Players unwittingly fanned the flames. Cornerback Joe Haden got wide-eyed when he described Pryor's size and talent, saying he "looks like Calvin Johnson."

On his way out the door, Pryor vowed that the Browns had made a mistake.

Within minutes of the news Pryor had been cut, 2013 NFL receiving yards leader Josh Gordon weighed in.

Gordon, who is on a Browns' reserve list that ties him to the team for 2016 while he is on a season-long suspension, directed this Tweet to Pryor:

"I already know ur straight bruh, God has a bigger plan for u… Meanwhile come and get this work w/ me & @RandyMoss."

Gordon had worked with Pryor in the summer before training camp. In a July 24 Tweet, Gordon said:

"Last week of work w/ @TerrellePryor before the start of camp was a success thanks to @RandyMoss & #theacademy."

SUPER BOWL EXPERIENCE

Turbin, meanwhile, offers down-the-road insurance at running back. A fourth-round pick of the Seahawks in 2012, he backed up Marshawn Lynch and played in the last two Super Bowls.

He had two carries, one for 19 yards, against New England in this year's Super Bowl loss. In the previous year's Super Bowl win against Denver, he carried nine times for 25 yards.

In his rookie year of 2012, he ran 20 times for 108 yards against Arizona.

Pryor was still on the team when offensive coordinator John DeFilippo addressed beat writers around lunchtime Thursday.

"I am proud of the way Terrelle has handled things," DeFilippo said. "He just needs to keep improving on those technique issues. It is a shame he has been out, too, and now 100 percent. It is good to finally see him open up a little bit. He has progressed nicely.”

Suddenly, he was gone.

I get adding a RB, but to add an average, hurt back when there are better options out there just doesn't make sense..This FO has proven they do not know how to address the skill positions. Having the trenches is all fine and dandy, but someone has to score the ball. Could care less on Pryor one way or another, its just the net new value of the move. I'm not impressed with this staff. Hope they end up looking like geniuses. But i don't think they will.

Stop being a homer. No way in hell this team ends up "mediocre". We're awful.

Problem is we'll actually probably buy into the "Fail for Cardale" crap too.

My level of caring about this franchise barely registers on the meter anymore. Waste of time.

Where did I rip anyone for saying cutting Pryor was a bad move? I never wanted Pryor on the team in the first place.

In my mind bringing in Turbin and cutting Pryor are two separate moves. We were obviously going to sign another running back, Pryor was obviously going to be the player cut when that took place.

Oh my, I already forgot about Kuharich, who already ran the Saints into the ground in the 90s (go look at the outcome of the 1996 Saints draft when he was their GM, terrible) and then proceeded to destroy the Chiefs in the 2000-05 years. That's when the geniuses met and now they're back reunited to make sure the Browns never make it to .500

Look.................despite cfrs's best efforts.........this comes down to one freaking thing: Why the hell bring in a guy who is going to be out for several weeks? That makes no sense to me, especially in regards to how thin we are at RB.

Duke is an injury waiting to happen. Crow is not used to handling the load. Are you telling me there wasn't a healthy RB available?

And why the hell did we put Gaines on the IR--eligible to return list? How freaking stupid was that?

#Browns new RB Robert Turbin told http://cleveland.com docs said he'd be out about 4-6 weeks w/ high ankle sprain but he's hurrying.

It makes no sense to bring in Turbin in our current situation.

Pryor was going to get cut anyway. We were bringing someone in.

This was also a dumb move (as many people, including me, have discussed in various other places). I don't see how it is relevant to this thread.

Wrong about what?

Name calling? You said I was not being rational.

I asked if you were high tonight because I was clearly talking about bringing in Turbin and you brought up Pryor again.

The Gaines move is not relevant? Okay, educate me. I admit I am not on top of all the rules regarding roster moves. So are you saying that we could not have signed Turbin and put him on the IR--eligible to return list had Gaines not been there? Is there some sort of stipulation that you can't use that designation to newer additions to your roster?

Seems like a legit opinion...

You want to know somebody we'll regret cutting? This guy. Mark it down. He's an IDEAL 3rd down/pass catching/scat back. Dude is going to ball in the role in NE and could have here, but he got injured then we dumped him. Sound familiar?

I get cutting Pryor if it is true that several players wanted him gone....no need for locker room trouble over a project. However, to sign a guy who is below average AND out for 4 weeks is just....Brownsing at its finest.

I'm quickly losing confidence in this regime.

I don't have any problem with cutting Pryor in general, but I don't understand cutting anyone to add Turbin: a dime-a-dozen RB who is a month from being healthy enough to play. Terrance West probably had a bad attitude, but he was healthy, had some good games here and knew the playbook. Plus he and Pryor were on the roster 5 days ago. It makes the front office seem schizophrenic...We had West, didn't need a backup RB at least for the first part of the season. If he's a diva, tell him to shut the eff up, give him 8 to 10 carries a game and some team would give up a 7th in a couple weeks. So now we swapped West and Pryor for Austin Davis and an injured, inactive Turbin. I get the need for a QB3 but if Davis is in we're totally screwed anyway. At least if Pryor was the emergency QB it'd be interesting to watch...

I'll argue that the real reason for this whole Gaines/IR fiasco is Farmer's ego and incompetence to build a roster. Because cutting two of his draft picks would have looked bad on his already "spotty" track record

Nate Ulrich ‏@NateUlrichABJ 11h11 hours ago

#Browns DC Jim O'Neil said if rookie CB Charles Gaines (hammy) was healthy, we'd be scheming stuff for him, I think he's that type of player

Apparently O'Neil sees something in him.
