Mary Kay is reporting for a conditional pick.

Overall, not a fan of the deal. Good luck, Winn.

Pretty big news. I am guessing this where we get another offensive linemen on the roster.

We got a conditional 7th round pick.

I am fine with this. The defensive line is probably our deepest position group. Winn was probably gone at the end of the season anyway.

My guess is we're going to pick up a former college K and try to convert him to CB with this roster spot. Then we he gets hurt we can cut him for an injured punter. It'll be a great "stash".

This is probably true....and the trade probably puts RB Droughns in line for the 53 (not that this is the deciding factor or anything).

Haven't seen anything pertaining to a 7th rounder. Rapsheet's tweet has since been deleted.

I see conditional 2017 pick. Maybe that's where the confusion is.

Farmer actually seems to be pretty good with the late round/undrafted guys. It's the first few rounds that he has struggled with.

He amended it to a "conditional pick" instead of a "conditional 7th round pick."

Wow,, didn't see that coming.

I wonder, are they making room to bring back Pryor?

Never mind LOL

I will see Billy when the Colts play the Saints.. I'm taking her to see her team.. A dream of hers to go to Indy and watch her team play.. Got 1st row seats 1&2 upper deck...

I do believe it's a 2017 conditional

Browns trade D-lineman Billy Winn to Colts, plan to promote RB Shaun Draughn from practice squad

The Browns have traded defensive end Billy Winn to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for a conditional 2017 draft pick, the team announced Friday.
Winn, a sixth-round pick in 2012, appeared in 40 games with 18 starts for the Browns. He compiled 87 tackles, three sacks, two interceptions, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
The trade opened a spot on the 53-man roster, and the Browns plan to fill it by activating running back Shaun Draughn from the practice squad Saturday.
Elevating Draughn would give the Browns three running backs -- starter Isaiah Crowell and rookie Duke Johnson are the others -- for the regular-season opener Sunday against the New York Jets.

I figured that he might be the next to go. It almost had to be a DL, and he was the bottom of that particular unit.

I think it's a good move for all involved. Winn could end up being a good player for the Colts, the Browns get a draft pick in return, and Winn goes to a better team. I always liked Winn, but the Browns are stacked on the defensive line. Good for him, I hope he does well over there.

If they needed a roster spot, why not cut Housler instead of trading Winn?

Deep on DL. And don't think for a moment Farmer didn't green-light this.

we were deep with DL last year ... until we weren't and it screwed us

I'd rather keep more DL than 4 TE

I would assume.. Because maybe they didn't want to cut Housler?

The whole decision-making process comes across as very "chicken with it's head cut off" as far as "we're keeping the best 53 players... well they're not really the best 53.... well, we decided we really do need three running backs..." That's what bothers me about it.

Because their roster construction sucks, that's why.

This better be much more than a 7th. Winn outplayed his draft position and is worth more than that.

This carousel of idiocy between Gaines/IR, Pryor, no RB, no OL depth, too many CB, too many DL etc would not have happened if they actually had a plan going into the draft, offseason and season. Now they have to sell low where they are strong just to add bodies where they are weak to begin with. Brilliant. This embarrassement could have been avoided, if they just drafted Josh Robinson at RB or Gallik at C, instead of another CB they had no room for in Gaines.

You should apply for the job next offseason.

Seeing as most people want everyone fired.

Then we can comment on how much roster turnover there is when you're in charge..

Trading for Blaine Gabbert would obviously get its own thread.. wink

It does make you wonder if Farmer is happy or blowing a gasket right now. Still we are getting draft picks for guys we might have planned to cut anyways. That an improvement over us just releasing players and they are never heard of again because it shows other teams are interested in players we don't view as good enough to be on our team.

It's a sign of progress even if I don't like the moves that have been made in Farmer's absence.

From where I sit I don't understand this move.

Winn seemed to play with a high motor and made plays. Plus he is still a young guy at 26.

I have to differ to the coaching staff on this type of move. They were there every day through camp watching and grading his film.

But from my perspective it is questionable.

I was pretty sure Winn was a guy on the bubble there. We just got so many linemen and he has/had a difficult time staying active and on the field.

We needed to make a roster spot so this is really not a shock whatsoever. Good luck to you Billy. I always thought when he did play, he was pretty solid for the most part.
