I hate starting new threads, but I wanted to talk about yesterday's game and didn't see any new posts in any of the other threads. I found some buried in the college football thread, but I think we need one thread just to follow the Buckeyes.

My impressions from the Hawaii game:

--I am not a fan thus far of our new OC. We don't seem to have an identity. We try and get too cute. Many don't like Matt Millen, but he had a good point yesterday....run to your strengths and the big plays will happen naturally. There is no need to try and hit homeruns on almost every play.

--The qbs were out of sync. Jones needs a lot of work on improving his footwork. Throwing off balance like that will result in picks in the NFL.

--Feed Zeke!

--Lee has great speed coming off the edge.

--What is number 8's name again? The corner opposite of Apple. He had a huge game?

--#54 struggled on the OL.

--Braxton is really helping his draft status. He's very versatile.

--Hawaii played their hearts out on defense.

--We win 38 to 0 and I was disappointed. How crazy is that?

yea braxton miller swapping position like this? he keeps playing like this week in week out, he's gonna be a 1st rounder.

Zeke....enough said.

but yea overall we played sloppy on offense. Both QB's, but especially Cardale didn't look sharp at all. i know some of it has to do with a very short week for those guys, but man the fumbling at the snap happened what? 3 times with cardale? he's gotta fix that.

Bosa made his usual monstrous plays.

who's number 3? the sophmore ? McMillien? he's good.

McMillan is number 5. He is very good and going to get better.

Conley is the guy I was talking about at cb. #8. He made a lot of good plays.

I didn't think Bosa was outstanding yesterday. You know who impressed me? #10----Holmes. He lined up at DE. He got a lot of penetration. LOL...........there is a joke there somewhere.

I think Samuel [#4] is flashing signs of greatness. The kid can run and catch.

If the plan all along was to try some different things, get both QB's in, etc... That's fine. You can get away with that in Hawaii.

Two weeks from this weekend we play Western Michigan, who is a really scrappy bunch with a coach who's trying to make a name for himself (so he can get the hell out of there)

They gave Michigan State big time fits last week. If you have a game like you did yesterday, you may be in for a 4 quarter game.

I was happy with our defense yesterday. They're not going to get too much credit for stopping Hawaii, but after some of the games they had last year, it was nice to see them squash every Hawaii opportunity, even after two times drives were extended from penalties. They knew pretty early in that game that the offense was not having a good day, and they made sure not to put them in any bad spots.

Welcome back Bosa and company. I like our WR options and that definitely includes Miller...

#37 Perry is a fun linebacker to watch. Kid is all over.

Do I even have to mention Zeke? C'mon...

Cardale against the Hawaii game looked pretty bad. Both him and JT weren't able to connect on a few of those deep attacks that seemed open.

Lee seems to be lethal when he blitz, just lethal and with that sorta speed, both and lethal and deadly.

I think we need some improvement at QB, and we are going to be a dominant force on both sides of the ball.

Number 8 is Gareon Conley.

2015 Ohio State Numerical Roster

I'm hoping the sluggish start was just a combination of the short week and trouble getting fired up for Hawaii after having basically the whole off season to get amped up for the revenge game with Virginia Tech.

I'm guessing they'll be able to settle in now and take care of business. Urban is pretty amazing at pushing the right buttons.

I agree with the feed Zeke mentality, but I think most teams are going to sellout to stop the run first and foremost. We don't have a deep ball wizard like Devin Smith at the moment.

I felt the same way... and how thankful I was to the "D" for picking up the fumble and getting a score from it.

Then at that point I told myself for me to feel legit... The "O" needed to add to that score and make it 45-0.

Everyone is talking about the short week for OSU... I used to live in Hawaii and I kept thinking that flight for the Rainbows wasn't anything easy.

Though it was ugly.. good teams win and 38-0 was a very nice win..

Your OC comment...I totally agree and I was thinking along the same lines...who are we? The whole "Cardel fake like you are going to run and then pull back to thow' mindset was cool last year but seems more of a hinderance. With Cardel in, the game seems a little slow and not in a good way ... IMHO. When you but Miller in there, the entire O seems to jumpstart to a new gear.

The expectations are off the charts this year and everyone will be gunning for us..right now, i don't think we are playing top 10 level ... yet. Mainly due to our secondary and both Lines that don't seem to be gelling quite yet - I swear they seem 'emotionless' if that makes sense.

Finally - play calling itself seems to be odd...seems like 3rd & long are too normal and then we start playing in another gear...or so it seems imo.

Funny - it' like a Yin / Yang - OSU / Browns.. smile makes for a great weekend on an emotional rollercoaster!

My only thought on OSU is that after watching Maryland lay down and roll over yesterday, OSU might beat them by 100 points... unless we can run a couple kicks back, which might be our only chance to score.

Just kick it away from Will Likely and it won't surprise me if it's a shutout.

Well, he's a better punt returner than kickoff returner... and I don't anticipate OSU will have to punt very many times... so there is that.

I find it pretencious that OSU calls themselves THE Ohio State.

Just saying. I went to my bro's graduation ceremony and had to hear them say it a million times.

Two weeks into the season and Notre Dame has already lost 5 starters to season-ending injuries:

QB Malik Zaire - Ankle
RB Tarean Folston - ACL
TE Durham Smythe - Knee, shoulder
DT Jarron Jones - MCL
CB Shaun Crawford (starting nickel CB) - ACL

Why are we called "THE" Ohio State University"?

In 1986, a new University logo was introduced in the hopes of moving away from the "OSU" symbol, which had been used since 1977. The change from simply "OSU" was said to "reflect the national stature of the institution." University officials wanted the institution to be known as "The Ohio State University," again, since OSU could also mean Oregon State and Oklahoma State University.

However, the "The" was actually part of the state legislation when the university was renamed in 1878. The following excerpt is from the Board of Trustee minutes:

"...the educational institution heretofore known as the 'Ohio Agricultural and Mechanical College,' shall be known and designated hereafter as 'The Ohio State University.'"

Those who wanted the name change thought the original name was too narrow in scope, and that it was inadequate for the institution that was the only beneficiary of the land grant act. President Edward Orton was insistent that a new name would separate the institution from other colleges in Ohio.

Legend also has it that "The" was used to show the other colleges which institution was supposed to be the leader in the state - both in size and in financial support from the legislature.

Reason why

Anyone know when they release the map, or listings as to wether the game this week will be on abc or in Colorado?

I ask because I'll be at my lady's house, and she just has over the air TV, and want to plan accordingly. I'm guessing they will throw Nebraska on abc, and OSU on espn2, hoping I'm wrong.

Don't think this can be said enough. JT Barrett is a REALLY good QB. Just amazes me how positive his mentality has been throughout this ordeal. The guy is gonna be a heisman winner whenever he gets the chance.

Also, Gareon Conley has been a beast

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

Ahh, again, I fell in love with a big arm that hasn't shown the ability to read defenses. Happens every year.

I think warinner tries to use different packages against lesser opponents to see if they can add a few different looks against the stiffer competition coming up.

I'm really REALLY getting tired of watching this offense. You have one of the best lines in the country. You have a great back in Elliott, but everything they've done so far is ridiculously gimmicky and too cute...

They are a much more dangerous when they do what they just did....

Exactly what I'm thinking guys. Let Braxton Miller make plays naturally as a WR, let Elliott make plays... Quit trying to manufacture the play of the century on every play... Playmakers will make plays...

frustrating.. on the other hand it may be trying to keep Elliot fresh and healthy going into the start of conference play..

We still win by a fairly good margin.. Plenty of game left.

You know, last week was the least enjoyable 38-0 win that I've ever seen. I don't know how you can win by that margin and not show everyone on earth that you are truly dominant. I don't care anything about NIU, but this team hasn't been anywhere close to the juggernaut everyone is making them out to be...
