Shame we have 4 TE's and the one play maker wasn't dressed ( Bibbs ) WR's were not getting open , No wholes for the RB's ( Crow did look like Trent part 2 ) No pass rush , and serious doubts about the D scheme as a whole today ! I bet Josh Lenz is having a good laugh today ..
Embarrassing for Cleveland and I really , really feel for Season ticket holders .. Just one game , but I am really sick of the opening Act !

Terrible day, but I don't think it's time to throw in the towel or anything. First game of the season. Next week, the Tennessee Titans. And after that, the Oakland Raiders. Both very winnable games

I've been a Btowns fan for fourty years. You'll get used to it. Fortunately, I can remember the days of "The Drive" and "The Fumble". Those were heartbreakers, but at least in those days the Browns had a team worth rooting for. Today, all you have to remember is Bottlegate, staph infections, The Helmet Toss and a slew of incompetent owners, FO personel and coaches.

That's fine. But there will certainly be some downs with his ups. And our secondary has something to prove. I bet our whole team will play better. As I said in another thread. 2007. Season looked over in first home blowout loss to the steelers. The next week we played the Bengals and won a crazy shoot out. The rest is history. We looked great, and then DA blew that Bengals game and we didn't make the playoffs. The Jets picked it up and ended up playing well. But I like to think that their is too much pride in our secondary and O-Line to play the way they did again.

Don't you get tired of hoping to win against a team that you think isn't any good and we should be beat them to feel better... If we can't beat the Jets than how do you think we will ever be successful. You cannot make excuses for losing ..Then say hey.. we can beat this crappy team and everything will be okay... Damn we lost another opener... how much more can you take... lmfao...

The secondary is not going to play better without a pass rush ; did you see one of them today ? The O-LINE was out of sink the whole Pre season .. Why do we run right 90% of the time ? There is something seriously wrong with personel or scheme ( maybe both ? )

Well, Pettine looked embarrassed in his presser. Would barely lift his head and make eye contact with anyone.
Hopefully, he believes he has a solution to what went wrong today and can implement it.
LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

thomas basically said JFF never took a snap with the 1's since he "could remember"
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

It is this simple. Gotta find another team to root for. I might as well sell my soul and root for the Patriots.

Rishuz not going off on you by no means...But he should be embarrassed.. I sure as the hell was.. I paid for all this Browns gear I had on today ..embarrassed. Would barely lift his head and make eye contact with anyone. Thats the same problem he has on the sidelines... ever watch him as the guys walk on by with their heads down.. he just looks like no ones around.. Hopefully, he believes he has a solution to what went wrong today and can implement it. Here's a solution.. stop walking around looking like your a bad ass when your not... stop telling us fans what we want to hear.. because as of now.. all I think is he's no more than a PR man. Yes I'm saying this after a loss... Isn't my fault.

Damn we lost another opener... how much more can you take... lmfao... I don't make excuses for losing. Trust me, I was upset today. Very upset. In fact, I went out for a bit of a walk today after the game because I had to walk it off. But I do understand that it's just one game. Given, it's like the 5th loss in a row, but I do remember that this coach had us 7-9 last year. 7-4 before Mack got hurt. I think it was some motto in the German Army about not disciplining someone until a day or two after the infraction (cooler heads prevail). Well that's how I feel about this. We lost to a team I felt we should have beaten. And not only did we lose, but we really lost. We better get our act together. But to throw in the towel, say the team is gonna suck this year, etc. that's ridiculous. I only did that once during the second game of a season. The one where we beat the Colts (the year before they picked Andrew Luck). I remember my g/f walking back to the car with me after the bar, confused about how upset I was over a win. I had to explain to her that I saw a team with no talent, and we just barely beat the worst team in the league. And because of that, the Colts would probably get Andrew Luck. Now that I was right on. But I don't feel that way today. I saw our secondary last year. I saw our line last year. They can both produce. Losing Jabaal Sheard and Rubin is not going to turn an okay defense into garbage. And we ran the ball pretty well before Mack got hurt last year. We do have to get it together, but there certainly is hope. And hitting the panic button after one game is just a bad way to go about things. Heck, remember our last home opener was against the Ravens. We beat the Ravens. It felt great. Then we proceeded to have a terrible season and Butch Davis resigned toward the end. I'd rather it be a terrible home opening loss, and then come back out of nowhere like we did in 2007. Every team has bad games. This game sucked. But I don't think it needs to define our season. I'm excited for next week against the Titans. And then I'm making the trek to Cleveland to watch us play the Raiders. I think we'll be 2-1 by week 4. And that's good enough to make us 2nd place in the division (at worst). And, as for how much I can take....... I guess I'll just take it until we finally get good. It's bound to happen someday.

I think they need to just give the reigns to JFF, let him get reps with the ones (something he hasn't done all off season) and see what we have. We seriously need to consider bringing in one of the FA RB. I'm also scouting on practice squads for a pass rusher..even if they are just a 3rd down specialist...right now we have noone. Shelton is just big, he's not strong and he's not quick. I pray he's just getting used to NFL, but as a NT, your job is pretty simple, and he didn't do anything today.
Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. Comes into us at midnight very clean. It's perfect when it arrives and it puts itself in our hands. It hopes we've learned something from yesterday. -John Wayne

This was to be expected. The Browns did hardly anything to build a winner this off season. They should have been more agressive in going after top free agents. We have an owner that says he wants a winning team but then doesn't do much about building one. When you are in the same division as the Steelers and Ravens, you need to be a lot more agressive in aquiring top talent than the Browns were this off season. All we can do is hope it gets better.

What if you already thought they were going to suck anyway? Then it's not that big of a deal, and it's not that much of a let down. I dunno man. I try to always start the season out somewhat optimistic. I can't stomach it any other way. Always play to win, always excited. Being from the NY area, I've seen Bill Parcells take a 1-15 Jets team that had no one at their stadiums, and turn them into like an 8-8 or 9-7 team in his first year. They really got rolling. That was when the Browns went away to Baltimore. Browns went away and I watched the Jets. Turn arounds can happen fast. good post... PeteyDangerous .. Yes your right it's just one game... I just think it would be nice to win a game before we lose a game. Exactly. I'm optimistic from last year. We crumbled at the end, but at one point we were 7-4. Offense firing on all cylinders. And I don't see that much of a difference between this year's team and last year's team. Not personnel wise at least. So, yeah. I have high hopes. No matter what anyone on the board or any analyst says. But of course, I'd love to win a season opener. This one really left a bad taste in my mouth. I ended up yelling at my g/f. Scaring off my friends who came over for the game. It really went sour, lol. Just needed to calm down after the game

I knew McCown was going to go down for trying to be fearless, but not this soon. His dive to the endzone was stupid. Why no helmet to helmet call there?
This Oline is either bad, or confused, or both. The run blocking was horrible. Crowell had no where to run, and when he did, he looked slow to the hole. I thought Duke showed what we can look forward to. He has had limited reps, but showed the vision and ability to be good.
If I'm the GM, Bowe is gone tomorrow. The rest of the WRs looked horrible IMO. How many drops? Gabriel had two I believe, Hawkins had one, and both Dray and Barnidge had at least one a piece. Benji is our best reciever...gulp. Hartline was held on the INT, the guy had his hand hooked on his shoulder pads and shoved him, big no call.
The penalties were maddening, most on the Oline.
Gipson was bad in coverage, and Whitner was horrible against the run. These guys need to step it up. No Dline push at all. They knew Fitz was hard to sack because he releases quickly, but I can't remember seeing any hands up.
I thought Mingo made some good plays, but Kruger couldn't set the edge all day, this is where Whitner was exposed. I saw him miss tackles and be out of postion on runs frequently. Our ILB did nothing except the one play where Dansby stopped the run in the backfield.
As for Manzeil, I was relieved to see him actually look like he can play at this level. The fumbles were concerning, but the second one he never saw the guy coming.
This game really hurt. The defense was flat, and our WRs are pitiful. No run game. I just hope this isn't what the whole year will look like.
There's more, but I think that covers the big picture.
I will add though, that I think it is time to roll the dice with Johnny. IMO, they got nothing to lose.

The Browns defense is over rated every season by the homers. 3-4 4-3 defense it doesn't matter. the Browns have a defense that talks a good game but can't back it up on the field. The offense is held back by a GM who doesn't value skill positions like WRs The Browns might score 20 pts or more twice this season. maybe. yeah Farmer is a genius GM.

No h2h because he was a runner. Once you leave the pocket, you don't get that call unless you're sliding, and he wasn't even close to sliding. It was his fault. Seriously, if you don't make that play in the endzone and slide in and we get 3 points, or you go for it on 4th. This wasn't the super bowl. It was awful attempt at that. On the flip side it was nice to see Johnny get down and slide other than when Skrine went after him.
That first drive sums up things quite well. We had a 9 minute drive that scored zero points. It's also the kind of drives that we'l be used to. Not that we'll always have that kind of a lengthy drive, but we have no playmakers to have any kind of quick drive ending in 7. The rest of the league of course does.

This is not to be confused with an excuse, but I think the Jets are a better team than has been reported. Their lines are very good on both sides of the ball, and they have a good back and two good recievers. I won't even mention their DBs. Like I said, this is not an excuse for the pitiful play of our team.

Not good but underrated I think he is properly rated. Bottom fourth of starting QBs in the league. A team with Ryan Fitzpatrick as their QB will never be good on offense. That fact only makes our performance today that much worse.

It Can we trade one of our QBs to the Seahawks? That worked that other time. It's not the QBs...it is the rest of the offense. No rushing attack, no passing attack, too many penalties...QBs trying to make something out of nothing..

QB was the big question. Today they appeared to be the only ones that gave a damn. Big play!! flag. Bring it back. Big play!! flag. Bring it back. You can only absorb so many of those. Big throw!! dropped pass.
Interception!! fumble! here we go again.
Just to much self inflicted wounds but its week 1.
Johnny vs Mariotta was a big debate now we get to watch them go head to head.

Fitz was traded by the Texans to the Jets back in March for a conditional late round pick.

why on earth do our lines suck so bad? there is zero excuse for the OL to not open up any holes for the backs ... all I hear about is the greatness of thomas, mack, bitonio ... we draft erving high ... and NO running game.
And we have literally never stopped the run since I've been alive
