The date of this year's trade deadline is August 1. With the Guardians being in 1st we are in the Buyer category. Here is my assesment of what we need:

Starting pitching. Our starting staff has one of the highest ERA's in MLB. Tanner Bibee is coming along, Ben Lively has overproduced, and Gavin Williams should be back soon. Logan Allen, Carlos Carasco, and Triston McKenzie have been underwhelming. This needs to bolstered if we are serious about making a World Series run. I think this should be our top priority.

My number one target would be Tyler Anderson LA Angels. The Angels are clearly sellers and Anderson is under contract this year and next year for $13 million/yr. We would pay roughly half this year's salary and have him for 1.5 years at a pretty good salary so he would fit from that standpoint. Additionally his ERA this year is 2.74.

We could use some added pop to the lineup. Positions that we can easily upgrade include CF, SS, C, RF

CF - Freeman has been playing defense really well but his bat hasn't been producing.

SS - Rocchio has been solid defensively but doesn't hit. Though it seems like the organization really likes him. I would consider giving Schneemann an opportunity to take over the starting role (though it seems they love him as a utility guy), or bring up one of the AAA middle infielders (Tena, Martinez, Brito) and see if they can take the job before trading for a new SS

C - I don't think that we will do anything here. I think they are happy with Austin, Naylor, Frye. I would send Naylor down to the minor and give him a chance to catch his breath, get his swing grooved then bring him back up and hope he will add some pop to the position.

RF - This would be the easiest place to obtain some new talent. But Brennon looks like he may have turned a corner. I would wait and see how his progession comes along.

Bingo.

Crochet has never thrown more than 100 innings. You'd be trading for a guy that you hope can make a start in the postseason with no postseason experience. He's a good fit for the Dodgers.

He's not a gamechanger this year (imo), long term I think he's a #1 or #2 starter.

There's been rumblings about Chris Bassitt. Would not cost nearly as much and has postseason experience.

Dang, why do the Braves fans want to trade all our farm? tongue I'm teasing.

I would be really surprised if they do not make some trades. The Guards drafted quite a few players and had some good draft money to entice some of them. So that should mean they will be cutting (or trading) some players loose in the farm system. They will also need to make some moves, b/c of changes to the 40 man roster.

The basic answer would be to sign Trevor Bauer. However, he must be blacklisted or something for a team not to pick him up month(s) ago.

We do have a log jam of middle infielders between the major league club and Triple A. So that would definitely be one area to pull from. Rocchio, Jimenez, Schneemann, A. Martinez (who's been playing the OF), Arias, Braccio, Tena, Brito and not counting Bazzana in the next couple years.

Same could be said with the OFs, with JRod, J. Noel, former #1 prospect Valera, and possibly DeLauter (though he's been hurt) if looking for a big trade.

My guess, they won't go after a big time starting pitcher. I think there will be too many bidders and the cost will be too high. They might be looking at their SPs for next month with Bibee, Lively, Gavin Williams, and Boyd as a good group. Maybe hoping Cantillio (from Triple A) will give them a spark or Logan Allen hopefully getting back on track with his stint in Triple A.

If they do go after someone, Paxton from the Dodgers was just DFA'd. Or I would expect it would be a second or third tier starter in a trade. Examples would be Kikuchi from the BJs, Motas from the Reds

If I had to guess on where they will put their assets, it would be Relief pitcher and OF.

I highly doubt it would happen, but Mason Miller (A's) would be a perfect compliment to Clase. He's 25, he can hit triple digits, good stuff, and controllable to 2029. In the event, Clase
prices himself off our team in a few years, you could move over to him. Obviously Miller would have to be good with the role. But I expect RP might be an area we might trade some assets.

As for OF, Rooker from the A's could be an option. Arozarena from the Rays, Conforto from the the Giants I wouldn't be too excited about and a few others.

If I had a choice it would be for Jazz Chisholm, and one of their top relievers. Though, I think that is more of a wish list than a possibility.

Teams I expect a trade with: Rays b/c of trades in the past, Blue Jays with their GMs Cleveland connection, Reds another team we tend to trade with, or maybe the Marlins since we have done business with them last year.
