Do you think with the AB trade...a market price has been set for OBJ? I would give up a 5th and a Third for OBJ....So would most in the league. Granted OBJ is younger...but he also has baggage and injuries lately. If it is for picks...I can't see NY getting much more than what Oakland gave up for AB.

They'll get a ton more than the Steelers got. Brown was refusing to go to certain teams (the Bills) which limited the market and wanted more money (further limiting his market). To our knowledge, OBJ has done neither. He hasn't even asked for a trade (that we know about).
They will get at least a 1 but a pair of one will never ever happen. Pat doesn't want him and obj wants out because he wants to play in a vertical offence and with a good QBs. Pat runs small ball offence and manning can't go deep anymore.
OBJ is not getting traded unless someone gives up a significant haul. OBJ is over 4 years younger than Brown entering the prime of his career. The city, ownership and the media love him in NY. He's one of the most recognizable faces in the league. The only shot I thought we had was Zeitler packaged with picks. Now that we have Vernon I don't think we have the ammo
I think its crap, especially since we just re-inked BP.
I don't think the Perriman signing affects much. If you are trading for a player like OBJ, you are not going to be stopped because you signed a guy to a one year/$4M deal.
Eli's cap hit this year is still astronomical so I can't see them taking a 16 million hit to trade OBJ. Then again, Gettleman may decide to go into the draft having painted themselves into a corner.
Baker gets to throw to OBJ, Landry and Njoku with Perriman, Calloway and possibly Higgins backing them up ... and gets a backfield of Chubb and Hunt?? Yowzers!
That's a lot. Sorry to see Peppers go, think he was coming into his own last year and looked forward to seeing him this year. But I have a feeling I'll forget all about it on Sundays.

I wouldn't worry about the salary cap, and you can teml from FA, others don't as well...the cap goes up what around 5 mill a year...its going to be going up a lot more here often (nfl players see the NBA and MLB salaries) payrolls are going to be going way up here the next few years...we are nowhere near any salary ramifications.
What was the point of resigning perriman? We better win the super in the next few years cause we are going to be in salary cap hell in no time
As of right now we have 41m free next year and that doesn't include the increase from 2019 to 2020, or the players that will be cut. We'll be fine unless Dorsey keeps spending like crazy. And 2020 the CBA expires - so 2021 might be completely different world.

I agree the cap is going to go up to much more vast amount.

Couldn't even make this stuff up less than a year ago.
Someone seriously needs to put forth a proposal that Mr Dorsey walk out onto the field before right before the first home game starts so he can get his well earned standing ovation.
FOR TURNING THIS TEAM FROM 0-16 TO SUPERBOWL CONTENDERS IN 2 YEARS!!!

Ya just couldn't.
more importantly, aside from OBJ, none it would have sounded all that scary.
Guys..........I've told you that a lot of my family members and friends are Steeler fans. We've been going crazy on the texts and they are all very emotional. Stunned, angered, depressed, etc.
we needed that pick more than we needed another wr...and we got worse on defense...I trust dorsey but i don't know we needed obj...only 1 ball. hope he has a plan to recoup that first. Who's out there for safety? think he's looking at Roby there?

Pick 17 would not have been anywhere near the talent OBJ is. Our 2nd 3rd rounder was not gold and while I liked Peppers..he was not special in anyway..

Sounds like a good deal to me. I would say OBJ, at this moment is better than any receiver in the draft class and would be a top 5 pick in this draft. So in effect we traded a 3rd rounder and peppers to move into the top five and get the best receiver available. With far less risk than drafting a rookie WR with a high 1st round pick. I like peppers but I am ok letting him go for Odell.
OMG guys...........I have never been so happy about the Browns. The Joe Thomas choice was right there, but this team has so much more talent and I am now sold. This team is now perhaps one of the favorites for the Super Bowl!!!!
Y'all should turn on NFL Network. They are singing the praises of the Browns and Dorsey. Not so much for NYG!

Crazy crazy day. I gotta let this all sink in before I start putting hot takes. Big trades like this make me nervous. I get that it's awesome and everything, and it appears that we have leaders in place to make the most of a player like OBJ... it just makes me nervous. Things like this usually don't work out for us.
I'm really on the fence about this trade. Peppers was just starting to get it, so it kinda sucks to not see him continue to put things together as a defender here in Cleveland. We have Kindred, and he's no slouch. Guy played well when he was starting. I definitely want to make a run at our Calhoun to keep him in town. We're down a starting safety, so now isn't the time to let depth walk.
The 1st and 3rd is a steep price, but OBJ is one of those talents. It's kinda funny... my first thought was if Dorsey was NOT the one picking then I'd be more on board with giving up the picks. Past regimes wouldn't get anywhere near the value of OBJ from both of those picks put together. With Dorsey it's possible. I don't know enough about this draft to get worked up about missing out on talent.
Still, OBJ is one of those talents. He's a sure thing, he's entering the prime of his career, and because of where he is in his contract, we're not paying all that much.
I'm probably more on the fence about this trade than I am with the Zeitler trade.

I bet we are on the phone with HA HA Clinton Dix right now.
good call..Dorsey obviously has a plan. At first glance i wasnt a fan of the trade, but i remember its dorsey and not the same old browns...so It def. gives me hope we are going to make a run now and we have the right guy figuring out how to do it
Even you, the voice of moderation, is getting carried away! Highly unlike you, unless I am reading your post wrong...
Carried away?
Bro, we just freaking killed it. We stole OBJ. We have our qb. We have the best WR group in the entire NFL. We have two stud RBs. We upgraded the D big-time. And the draft hasn't even happened yet!!!!
Are you kidding me!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am conservative when it comes to my teams, but dawg............we are killing it. I am so excited!!!! For real!!!!
adam henry...hes a very good coach..he'll he taught perriman how to catch and saved higgins from being a footnote. Kept AC's head on straight all year.. good hands with Henry
I swear, starting Thursday (Not tomorrow, because its FA), I am putting on my Browns jersey and going to every single bar where I was mocked and say WHAT YOU THINK OF US NOW. UH-HUH
Buh Bye. With OBJ we don't need you. Would be nice if you were out there. Loved what you did last year. But if you want out, don't let the door hit you on the butt on the way out...
"she is so dumb. He can't sign a contract until Weds. It's just a handshake deal at this point."
Good point, so if he really wants out that gets us off the hook? I'm sure the Browns would honor the agreement even now, but if he is the one that wants out that would work out fine for us. 4 million we can spend on another player.

I wear my Browns stuff all the time.
I am always trying to recruit fans to where we watch games.
Go Browns. If they start tot joke about my team, I give them "the look". I can't explain it, but it had worked my entire life, both in private life and professionally. I guess it has a bit of a stern, crazy eyed look to it...whatever, it works. Maybe like the look Dirty Harry would give you if he questioned what you said.

that's correct. Plus, we can pull the contract off the table at any point as well. (we won't but we could)
He will sign with a different team for 3.5 mill
I couldn't stand her when I worked with her... I still can't stand her now.

I wear my Browns gear also. I would still wait to celebrate until the Browns actually win a division championship. Being a Browns fan has made me cautiously optimistic.
He knows he wont get the ball, and wants a payday.
Baker seemed to like throwing to everyone...Letting all of them get a chance at the ball...I appreciate what he did last season... Hope he sticks around...
I'd rather hang around and be part of what could be the greatest sports story in ages!
If this is true, it shows you Perrimen would rather be a star on a crap team than depth on a great team. There’s competitiveness and then there’s selfishness.

I can understand Perimans position, but damn, he could be the icing on the cake...how open might he be on the deep routes after the D accounts for Landry AND Beckham? Think about it Breshard....
Middle day of the the FA crazy tamper time, and the ONLY thing the NFL network can talk about is this trade. Shaun O'Hara is really struggling trying to put a positive spin on this for the Giants. That team is where we were a few years ago. Maybe they should hire Hue to make sure they tank correctly.

+1
I can't really blame him. He goes from being the #3 to #4 option .... to maybe being the #5 option. His future depends on having a big year. He is probably right to move on.
Just spitballin', maybe they would play 3 safeties at once? Play Thomas, Randall as the deep ball safeties, and play Kindred as a 3rd linebacker/in the box guy.
You might be onto something, but I think they would only play two at time. Down, distance, and field position would determine which combos would be inserted.
The thing I'm getting most excited about is Kitchens and what his mind will be able to do with this much talent. I mean, he was getting Rod Streater wide open.... what's it going to look like with OBJ & Landry out there? Are teams going to play eight DB's??
And then you have Calloway taking the top off a defense that has already had its top taken off. What?
What's the over/under on stacked boxes Chubb/Hunt face next year.... 12?
I saw an interview last season before the draft or saquon Barkley had an entire marketing team and when the interviewer asked them where they expected him to go they are basically said they wanted him to go to New York because it was the biggest Market I wonder what saquon thinks about that now, Giants are rebuilding.
Great point. Having a WR like OBJ and also having Landry will benefit us in so many ways other than them just catching passes. Teams will have to dedicate to guys to covering these guys, which will in turn open up better opportunities for Chubb, Hunt, and our other RBs.

It's very exciting.
I wonder if teams will load the box and dare us to beat them with the pass now ??
CLEVELAND — If this isn’t “going for it” — as John Dorsey swore straight-faced he would not do after a single 7-8-1 season — then his definition must entail something more.
Like acquiring at least one of Daenerys dragons.
For now, here’s what we can say about Tuesday night's acquisition of Odell Beckham Jr.
He’s no Dwayne Bowe. Not even close.
No Kenny Britt either.
And in part because of that we can say the days of Browns football being a measured “process” inching toward “sustained excellence” died in the organizational handbook GMs kept on their desks here for the past 20 years.
Under Dorsey, Browns football is certainly not a process.
It’s not a quiet knock or even a toe in the door of the AFC North. That’s too polite to describe this offseason in particular.
The entreaty aimed at getting the attention and respect of the division, conference and league is about as subtle as a battering ram.
First Kareem Hunt, then Olivier Vernon. Then Sheldon Richardson and Beckham in the same day.
And to think Dorsey lost an hour to daylight’s savings.
Hold on. Habit calls.
Watching Browns football since 1999 requires somebody to ask, “What could go wrong?”
Judging by the Mardi Gras that broke out on social media at the news of Beckham’s acquisition and the tease that Dorsey “isn’t done yet” (safety Earl Thomas?) this is a question that should be shouted from the rooftops to be heard, preferably by someone with operatic pipes or in possession of a megaphone.
Dorsey can’t account for injury. Beckham missed 16 games the past two seasons, though the bulk of those came two years ago. He’s had four 1,000-yard seasons, most recently a year ago while making just 12 starts.
Beyond that? Well, there are weird moments and occasional sideline meltdowns that are part of the package.
But unless in a weak moment a kicking net accepts one of Beckham’s marriage proposals and the happy couple jets off to St. Lucia for a prolonged honeymoon, Dorsey will likely have reason to celebrate the day he delivered the electrifying offensive weapon the Browns need and quarterback Baker Mayfield deserves.
Dorsey can feel confident in part because Mayfield — in case you didn’t notice — is not exactly a wallflower himself. You can argue Browns football stopped being polite the minute Mayfield was drafted (and probably get no strong argument from Hue Jackson.)
Nothing about Mayfield screamed rookie a year ago. And he’s not likely to get cowed by a star receiver demanding the ball or acting up. Dorsey has reason to believe Mayfield can handle the idiosyncratic Beckham or he wouldn’t have willingly chased this pairing.
Is he right? Boy, it's going to fun seeing.
And now we know why Dorsey kept after this deal. It didn't require the two No. 1 picks we thought it might.
Dorsey acquired Beckham from the Giants Tuesday for a single No. 1 pick (17 overall in April), the later of two Browns third-round draft choices and Jabrill Peppers, who spent a chunk of his time in Ohio lined up in Michigan.
The Giants strategy, meanwhile, looks like a Benny Hill chase scene. Where are they going with the ancient Eli Manning at quarterback and how do they propose to get there now that they’ve traded his No. 1 target away and swallowed $16 million in dead cap money.
The head-scratching questions aren’t being asked of the Browns GM this time. This would normally take some time to get used to, but Dorsey ’s two years are moving at a clip that won’t allow for much reflection.
Or anything now except the highest aspirations.
It's a brave new world.
If it makes you feel comfortable, one thing hasn't changed.
The Browns used to cost you sleep.
And now when the prime time TV schedule comes out, they will again.
One thing he wrote about briefly, talking about Mayfield not being a wallflower. I think baker has a strong enough personality that he won't tolerate BS from anybody. I think he will be able to handle Beckham, it it's necessary.
Whew, it's a good thing my ban from the board due to Palus Politicus expired and I can celebrate the good news!!!
I know there had been rumors on and off for a couple weeks about OBJ coming to the Browns and I had seen the photos with Mayfield and Jarvis. I just never thought this would actually happen. Dorsey is the freaking man. He is a genius at all levels. It hurts some to give up Peppers because I really like him and he was part of the Browns turn around, but man o man I'm just so pumped right now!!!!!!
When I first found out about it in the car I laughed and screamed with joy! I immediately turned it to ESPN radio and relished in the moment.

A month or two ago my Bro said we should have went in on season tix at Cleveland Browns Stadium last year.
Seems he was right.
Stadium gonna be packed for this show. I wanna go to at least two games next season.
I decided to get tickets last season, because I had pretty high expectations...and got to 1 game (Jets), the rest went to my family. I'm glad I was right, I'm stoked to come back again this season for a game. And the playoffs (hopefully)

I don't think there will be any issue for the Browns selling season tickets this year. If we play as good as I think we will, get ready to pay big scalper prices for any chance to see a game, let alone a play off game.
Rappaport saying this might not be a done deal as OBJ wants to restructure his contract a la AB. Anybody worried about this? He could still nix the deal.

We were supposedly his first choice. He wants to be on the team. Also, I am sure we were made aware of his desires before the trade. Not worried at all.
Just in case anyone wanted to know how they last did together at LSU:
Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham Jr. Statistics
Code:
Receptions Yards TDs Average
Landry (2013) 77 1193 10 15.5
Landry (career) 137 1809 15 13.2
Beckham Jr. (2013) 59 1152 8 19.5
Beckham Jr. (career) 143 2340 12 16.4
p.s. 2013 was with Zach Mettenberger throwing to them, but in a pro style offense. That's over 2,300 receiving yards on 136 receptions and 18 touchdowns
You might be onto something, but I think they would only play two at time. Down, distance, and field position would determine which combos would be inserted.
Interesting. Curious as to why. Do you think we gave up to much?....Doesn't fit with the team chemistry?.....Not an area of need?
jfan...everything you listed, plus.
Watching this dude on the side lines, he will be a super distraction and one helluva headache for the teammates, coaches.
His game is about him, not about the team and working hard to win. From the example he set with the Giants, he appears to be the type that if he is not happy, he will take his ball and go home...or begin being a distraction to call more attention to himself.
Don't know what kind of issues he may have, but there is something not right about this guy.
It seems like another one of the moves Haslam would pull, imo.
So there I was tonight, at work and on lunch break, watching ESPN on one of the TV's in one of the break rooms. Seemingly out of the blue they announced the Browns & OBJ trade. It was fairly quiet in there until then. As soon as I heard the news I starting involuntarily yelling, cheering, with my arms up in the air. I was PUMPED. I had to catch myself, but then did it again and pointed to the TV I was watching so people wouldn't think I was crazy. I embarrassed myself, but I don't give a hoot, this is the best news Browns fans have had in years! It's all coming together finally. We aren't gonna suck anymore. Those days are over. You can bank on it.
A co-worker is a Raven's fan (from Baltimore, so I let it slide) and he is upset that Baltimore didn't go get OBJ since he was available.
Giving a stud #1 WR to Baltimore would be like giving my dog a submarine. It's be nice to be one of the few who has one, but WTF is he going to do with it? My dog doesn't have an ocean, and the Ravens don't have a thrower.
Odell Beckham: Leaving Giants for Browns bittersweet
Print
By Kevin Patra Around the NFL Writer Published: March 13, 2019 at 07:42 a.m.
Parties are being thrown in Cleveland while fires are set in New York following the trade of Odell Beckham from the Giants to the Browns on Tuesday night.
The man in the middle of the trade has mixed feelings about the move.
Beckham told NFL Network's Kimberly Jones shortly after the swap went down that leaving New York is "bittersweet, but it is what it is. It's life."
"At this point, I have no idea what to think. I'm trying to process it right now," Beckham told Jones.
The dynamite receiver added that he had a "brief" conversation with GM Dave Gettleman after the trade was agreed to on Tuesday night.
OBJ's mixed feelings are natural. He surely liked playing for the Giants, and the spotlight that comes with the Big Apple. On the flip side, he's going from a team on the downward slope, with seemingly no rudder, to the NFL squad streaking upwards at the steepest rate. Beckham goes from Eli Manning to Baker Mayfield. And he gets a reunion with BFF Jarvis Landry in Cleveland.
The Browns with Beckham, Mayfield, Landry, Myles Garrett, Olivier Vernon (also acquired in a separate trade with New York), Denzel Ward, et al. will see their expectations soar higher than they've been in eons.
Once OBJ has time to process the trade, he could be happy to move from New York to Cleveland -- which is a statement few have made in any football discussion in generations.
This was the first tweet I saw this morning and it kinda summed up the trade for me. Look, Jabrill Peppers is a stud and always like us keeping 1st rounders, but it feels like we were gifted OBJ by Gettleman. This feels like such a lop-sided deal it's almost sad. And for the record, were are essentially giving up two first rounders and a third. It's just that the NYG have the known quantity (Peppers) instead a a future unknown pick. If there is anything the Giants can be happy about, they get a Landon Collins-type player, just cheaper and the chance to hit on another WR with the #17 pick.
For the Browns, it's simple....you now have your #1 WR. Hopefully, this moves Landry almost exclusively inside, and you play Higgins/Calloway on the other side or line up all of them in 4 WR sets.
It will be interesting to see what happens contract-wise now with some of our players, assuming you are keeping Odell throughout the deal (or this new restructured deal news that may give him even more money: https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2825...wns-after-trade) and we're expecting to extend Garrett and Mayfield to massive contracts within the timeframe we have Beckham here. That's three power contracts. Perhaps part of the reason Peppers was moved was the idea that a handful of players in 2-3 years won't/can't be extended because of other guys who take priority around the same time? Other players might fall into that box too now with this deal.
And there is certainly risk with this trade. Giving up two assets for a guy that has missed games in his career, is reportedly demanding an Antonio Brown-like restructured deal that will possibly hamstring you in other player acquisition opportunities, has been called out for route running by Manning and certainly falls into the Diva category that is a top-notch WR. Still all that said, I think the deal was a good one.
I was talking with my buddy ( a stooler fan). he said "this doenst make them any better, they are still under us". After laughing and peeing my pants, I presented him this scenario.
Baker under Center Top 3 RB in the NFL split left, one of the best young RB in the NFL split right.
Odell, Jarvis, callaway lined up at WR.
Tell me, how Pittsburgh defense plans to stop and hold that under 35 points.
I get it. But I don't think OBJ is a distraction in the locker room. From what I've read, teammates love him. I think any player can get frustrated, become a headache and a distraction if you're losing. I don't think we're going to lose, however.
Making this type of deal for this type of player 3 years ago would have resulted in probable disaster but not now.
I feel like we've fleeced the Giants, twice perhaps. OBJ is hall of fame talent, we most likely aren't going to draft that at 17, but possible of course.
This move suggests we are all in now. The only 2 reasons I wouldn't like this deal is that 1) was it really necessary? and 2) I am worried about the long term effect on the browns and how will we keep all these guys, but i'll worry about that when the time comes.
That's three power contracts. Perhaps part of the reason Peppers was moved was the idea that a handful of players in 2-3 years won't/can't be extended because of other guys who take priority around the same time? Other players might fall into that box too now with this deal
This was my thinking. Baker, Myles, Ward, Chubb, and you probably can only keep either Njoku or peppers. Right now, you get OBJ for peppers and let Njoku walk.
I think this move was done knowing that either njoku/peppers were not going to be retained at some point.
Haha. Steelers fans are delusional. Im getting the same thing. I mean we gave away more for OBJ (which still wasn't that extreme) than the steelers got for AB. But i'm hearing that the steelers are just rebuilding. Have fun rebuilding with your 3rd and 5th rd picks while we kick your a.....

As pro football's first-overall pick in 2017, Browns pass-rusher Myles Garrett was chained to a wandering Cleveland squad that lost 16 consecutive games amid the chuckles of millions.
Are those dark days of torture gone for good?
On the heels of a headline-exploding swap for ex-Giants wideout Odell Beckham, Cleveland's football team finds itself stationed in alien territory.
"Absolutely," Garrett told NFL Network's Total Access on Tuesday when asked if the Browns were the new team to beat in the AFC North. "I think the tide has turned and we can't wait to get out there and prove it."
Browns general manager John Dorsey has been full of surprises during his brief run in Cleveland, but Garrett acknowledged his teammates, as a collective, felt a disturbance in the Force in recent days -- the good kind of disturbance.
"I did," Garrett said. "I'm not going to say I predicted anything, but it was surprising to me that we had a very quiet Monday [in free agency] and we were hearing a lot of inklings about OBJ coming to us, getting him on a trade, so, you know, making this happen, I was kind of expecting something big."
Former LSU barnstormers reunited, Beckham and bestie/wideout Jarvis Landry create one of the game's juiciest -- and richest -- receiver rooms, but the Browns were willing to pay big bucks for the finest tandem they've housed since Reggie Langhorne and Webster Slaughter laid waste to the rough-and-tumble AFC Central of days old.
All of this is a pleasant surprise for Garrett, who came to the Browns when they were a national joke, deconstructed daily by hobby-horse bloggers, talkers and desk-jockey tweet-elves during his early days with the franchise. Per his words: "I think it's amazing for us."
We live in new times. Eras uncharted. The Browns making moves and floating upward from football's deepest swamp to airy new climes. And we've yet to discuss the pieces -- Olivier Vernon and Sheldon Richardson -- added to a dangerous defensive front tasked with scattering the Steelers, Ravens and Bengals.
Perhaps all of this crumbles away. With signal-caller Baker Mayfield, though, anything seems possible. With Odell Beckham flying beside him, we've moved into new territories of the mind.
Good luck finding a more interesting team in the AFC. Or the NFL. Or anywhere.
I'm not sure I like what we gave up, but we definitely have a big chess piece for the offense, now.
#17 #95 S Jabril Peppers
all for OBJ
Not going to read all 300 posts...lol
My son called me around 10 we were happy there wasn't a family emergency.
I'm not a big Elite WR guy but I did say only if we are talking about OBJ but again I did not want to give up 2 First round picks. 17, 95 and Peppers although I like Peppers a lot Safeties and VERY GOOD ONES are available Often and we probably will sign a good one in FA.
OBJ is an amazing WR. He can break ankles and with the weapons we got now he will be one on one often. We have one of the most accurate QBs around and we have a system that gets rid of the ball quickly.
What I like about OBJ is that when he goes in motion he will indicate Man or Zone easily. It is a tough kid and is willing to block his butt off for anyone. RB or WR...keep in mind that also is a good trait of Landry. He and Landry will bring a new dynamic to the WR Room. Watch as they all will become tough guys not wimpy like most WRs. They will all block for each other and be assets to the Running game. Chubb is going to be a Beast this year.
Best news is we just went CRAZY on the DL as well if we score like I think we will it will force our opponents to pass a lot more and we will pin our ears back. I can see us as the Sack Leaders in the NFL. This move really changes so much positive on our team. We will get over the talent that we would get at #17 soon enough and as mentioned all though I liked Peppers more than some here, Safety and SS is an easy commodity to fill.
I certainly think Njoku falls into that category but also Chubb simply for the fact that you can get RBs on the cheap almost anytime.
For years, I've been longing for offensive talent from the days of Kosar, Langhorne, Slaughter, Brennan, Mack, and Byner. Folks, I believe the new generation of Browns heroes is here!
My dad and I haven't been to a game in 3 years. We were planning on going this year anyway, but now I hope we can afford the tickets!!!
mac, I don't know if you trust me or not, but OBJ is:
--very popular w/his teammates --a tough and willing blocker --a guy who forces teams to game-plan against --one of the hardest working guys in the game --extremely passionate --probably the game's most gifted WR.
He is a bit immature, but he isn't a bad person. I think he brings a lot of great things to the team and this move is the one that could put us over the top.
This doesn't diminish these deals in anyway for me but thought it was information DawgTalkers would want.
Browns and Giants make it all one trade: Odell Beckham Jr. and Olivier Vernon for Kevin Zeitler, Jabrill Peppers, No. 17 and No. 95; eliminate mid-round swap Updated 8:35 AM; Today 8:28 AM 26 Gallery: Odell Beckham Jr. traded to the Browns for No. 17, third-round pick and Jabrill Peppers 9 6 shares By Mary Kay Cabot, cleveland.com
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Browns and Giants have wrapped their two blockbuster deals of the past week all into one, a league source told cleveland.com.
Instead of separate trades that landed Odell Beckham Jr. and Olivier Vernon in Cleveland, the clubs have rolled it all into one big, monster deal that will be consummated Wednesday afternoon when the league year opens.
The deal now consists of this: the Browns gets Beckham and Vernon, and the Giants get Zeitler, Jabrill Peppers, the No. 17 overall pick and the No. 95 overall (third round, from the Patriots trade for Danny Shelton).
false Odell Beckham Jr. traded to the Browns for No. 17, third-round pick and Jabrill Peppers
Beckham played with Jarvis Landry at LSU, and Browns receivers coach Adam Henry coached Beckham at LSU and with the Giants.
Eliminated in the revision were the mid-round picks that were part of the Zeitler-Vernon trade.
The Browns were set to send their No. 155 overall pick in the fifth round to the Giants for their No. 132 pick in the fourth round.
The elimination of the mid-round picks was first reported by Art Stapleton of NorthJersey.com.
A 1st, 3rd, Peppers and we converted a 3rd into a 5th. OBJ has been oft-injured, has a diva outburst every other week, liked playing in NY, tried to kill Josh Norman on the field and we’ll probably have to extend/renegotiate the contact right away.
I’m happy if this all works out, but I’m nervous. I don’t see this as a slam dunk move.
I can remember when Baker wasn't even allowed to work with the ones and it was a Preseason game with the Giants.
OBJ didn't make his way to TT our starting QB but he went straight for Baker in warmups and they gave a big time hug to each other and did a lot of talking and laughing.
I remember this cause I'm like man Baker has that charisma and it looks to me OBJ is wanting to be with him...now that dream became a reality oh and Vers I hope you like this 6'7" kid we just added for that big WR at 230 he isn't a TE he is a WR
NFL Trade Grades: Browns huge winners for acquiring Odell Beckham, Giants clear losers in an utter disaster With Odell Beckham, the Browns are the new favorites in the AFC North
by Sean Wagner-McGough @seanjwagner 11 hrs ago • 5 min read
It actually happened.
On Tuesday night -- just three days after the Raiders traded for Antonio Brown -- the Browns pulled off a monumental trade with the Giants for Odell Beckham, as first reported by NFL Network's Mike Garafolo and confirmed by CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora. In return for one of the best receivers in football, the Giants acquired the Browns' first-round pick, second third-round pick, and 2017 first-round pick Jabrill Peppers, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The trade actually happened. Beckham is on the Browns, and he immediately transforms them into the best team in the AFC North. The Giants are suddenly without their best player, and they didn't even get the two first-round picks that many believed would be a requirement in any trade involving Beckham.
Obviously, the winners and losers from Tuesday's blockbuster won't be known for some time. We need to see how the Giants use those draft picks. The players drafted with those picks need to be given a chance to step foot on the field in a Giants uniform. We also need to see how Beckham meshes with Baker Mayfield in Cleveland in addition to considering his impact within the ...
Oh, who are we kidding? Let's sort through the chaos and grade the trade right now, because as it stands, there's one very clear winner and one very clear loser. Yes, that could always change over time, but as of right now, give the Browns loads of credit for making the biggest move of the offseason and criticize the Giants for not getting as good of a haul that a player of Beckham's caliber should've fetched in the trade market.
We begin with the Browns. Cleveland Browns: A
Odell Beckham
The Browns won this trade.
They just acquired arguably the league's best receiver who is both 26 years old and under contract for five more seasons with an average annual base salary of roughly $14.5 million. Even if the Browns end up reworking Beckham's contract to give him more money, they just added arguably the league's best receiver, who is still in his prime, and they didn't even have to give up multiple first-round picks. Heck, they didn't even have to give up the first of their two third-round picks. Even after parting ways with two draft picks, they're still armed with eight picks in the upcoming draft, two of which are a second- and third-round pick.
Here's what they're getting: Since Beckham entered the league in 2014, he ranks third in receiving yards per game with 92.8, slotting in behind Julio Jones and Antonio Brown. In that span, he also ranks third in touchdown catches with 44 even though he's missed 21 possible games. Put another way, DeAndre Hopkins ranks second with 45 touchdown catches, but he's played in 20 more games than Beckham in that span.
Translation: Beckham is in the top tier of NFL receivers. That much is indisputable.
He turns the Browns into the best team in the AFC North one year after they went 7-8-1 with their young nucleus, even after Hue Jackson actively sabotaged them during the first half the season. The Steelers just lost Antonio Brown. The Ravens lost C.J. Mosley and Eric Weddle. The Bengals are still the Bengals. The Browns added Odell Beckham to an offense that already has Baker Mayfield, Nick Chubb, Jarvis Landry, Antonio Callaway, David Njoku, and Kareem Hunt -- not to mention a defense that ranked 12th in DVOA.
This is good:
According to SportsLine's Stephen Oh, the Browns' chance of winning the AFC North has risen to 50.5 percent with Beckham. Their projected number of wins has jumped to 10.1.
That's a clear win.
New York Giants: F
First-round pick this year (No. 17 overall) Third-round pick this year (No. 95 overall) Jabrill Peppers
Let's start with the obvious: The Giants just got significantly worse by parting ways with one of the league's best receivers. Again, that's undeniable.
What's especially concerning about this trade from their perspective is that they didn't even get two first-round picks, which is what many assumed they'd get if they decided to trade Beckham. As NFL Network's Kimberly Jones said on Tuesday shortly before the trade, "Would two No. 1 picks do it? Perhaps, but there doesn't seem to be a team lining up with that kind of mega offer for Odell Beckham Jr."
In the end, the Giants settled for the No. 17 pick, the No. 95 pick, and Peppers.
Maybe they'll draft a great player with those picks. Given the draft is a crapshoot, it's more likely that they won't hit on both picks. It's even more unlikely that either of those picks will result in a player as impactful as Beckham. In Peppers, the Browns are getting a good, but not great young safety who will replace Landon Collins. He'll be a nice addition, but he's not magically transforming that Giants' defense into a top unit.
The timing of the trade, which factors into their grade, is also puzzling. If the Giants were so eager to get rid of Beckham that they settled for the Browns' offer, why didn't they trade him a year ago before they handed him a five-year extension?
Not only that, but according to Over The Cap, the Giants will take on $16 million in dead money too. That's a significant amount of money to be paying a player who doesn't play for your team anymore.
This is not a list teams want to be on. To no one's surprise, the Steelers and Giants are both on it after dealing away their highly paid receivers.
Even Giants general manager Dave Gettleman indicated two months ago that trading Beckham so soon after signing him to an extension wouldn't make much sense.
The Giants are now committed to a full rebuild one year after they passed on drafting a potential franchise quarterback in order to take a running back with the second-overall pick. While Saquon Barkley has proven to be a tremendous talent, his awesome rookie season also proved that he alone can't turn the Giants into contenders. Considering the Giants are in the beginning stages of their rebuild -- Eli Manning is still their quarterback -- it's not at all unreasonable to suggest that by the time the Giants are ready to compete, Barkley will no longer be on his rookie deal.
This is a disaster for the Giants. They traded away their best player in the prime of his career for a disappointing price less than a year after they gave him a huge contract. They're now beginning a rebuild one year after taking a running back over a quarterback with the No. 2 pick in the draft.
It's almost like they've been operating without a clear plan or direction.
Tulsa, I was pretty out front about my support for Peppers so I understand. He started to show his worth last year and took a lot of unfair criticism in stride during his rookie campaign. I think his career is ascending. That made him an attractive player to put into the trade since the G-men lost Collins.
You have to be willing to give something to gain something. I don't think the first and third round picks alone would have closed this deal. Being willing to move Peppers was the ingredient necessary to make the trade happen. I wish him well. We filled a bigger need by creating a smaller problem at the safety position. Dorsey probably has a solution for that worked out.

Winning and doing so spectacularly which is a real possibility with the team being constructed by Dorsey; that will change the minds of those on the wrong side of history!
Pitt fans and local radio here are soooo butt hurt.
They are all saying we gave up too much, OBJ isn't that good, hes a cancer, Pitt is still the better team, no way Browns win more than 8 games, etc. etc.
Man, PLEASE NFL, put Cleveland @ Pitt first game of the year Sunday night so we can rock them dudes on their turf and announce to the word KING JOHN has awoken the GIANT!
1. I think its the fear of us actually being great again, can it be Twue, its Twue its Twue!
2. We have been conditioned that our draft pick in the first round is a great commodity. Mostly because we have been picking in the top 10 almost every year and there has been great value to our picks.
Us picking at 17, I think only ONCE since 1999 did we pick that late in the draft and we took Faine the Center from Notre Dame, 1 year after we took Fowler the 3rd round Center.
He busted for us but actually became a good Center for a few years just not with us...
Even me, a negative on WRs as far as impact to the team. From the onset of the possibility stated that the only guy I would wish us to make that commitment would be an out right STUD like OBJ. He's not just good he is great and is one of the few WRs that can make all others around him good.
I think this upcoming draft really motivated us to make the moves for Vernon, Richardson, and Odell.
We saw DL as the strength of this year's class, so we decided to go heavy DL in FA/Trades in order to make our 1st round pick expendable ... which gave us the luxury to go after OBJ
Hey tab........I'm not sure how many articles you read about this trade and I know you didn't read all of the posts from last night about this trade, but the overwhelming word is that the Browns destroyed the Giants on this trade. The Giants have been getting ripped in the national media.
I'm more happy than at any other moment except for maybe when we drafted Joe Thomas. The difference is that this team has far superior talent to that version of the Browns. I really think that this team has the talent to win the Super Bowl.
