Maiava was the Browns' fourth round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. Maiava missed just one game during his four-year career at USC (2005-08). He was a second-team All-Pac 10 selection as a senior when he notched 66 tackles, eight stops for loss and an interception. For his career he amassed 164 tackles, 15.5 stops for loss and two interceptions.

I am going to go out on a limb and say no he wasn't signed earlier, I am going to guess it was earlier today, unless the beat writers for the team are wrong :shrug:
