Which team had the best draft (other than your own)?

Which team had the worst draft?

Which pick was the biggest reach?

Which player most likely fell the furthest?

Im hoping some grade each team in catagoires from A thru F and some discussions on each teams picks follows.

Another question. I was thinking which route to do the 49ers. Which route in the 1st round would you guys have done with the 49ers first 2 picks.

1st round
13) Trent Williams OT, Oklahoma
17)Dez Bryant, WR, Oklahoma State

or should I have went

1st round
13) Talyor Mays S USC
17)Anthony Davis, OT, Rutgers (heck, maybe Trent Williams would have still been available)

I would have been happy with either scenerio.

I picked Dominique Franks CB Oklahoma in the 2nd. Since I didnt fill the 49ers biggest need at DB I felt it was a must in the next 2 rounds. That pick was my biggest reach and probabley the only pick that will actually be available in the 49ers first 3 rounds, over the players that were available. I really wanted to go Nate Allen but I knew I would get a decent FS later in the draft. I didnt know it would be Morgan Burnett though. The 49ers had a bigger need a FS than SS. I went with Franks because of his ability in the return game. He isnt a game changer in the return game but he does have experiance and in Zone coverage. I was torn between him, Akwasi Owusu-Ansah, CB, Indiana and Chris Cook, CB, Virginia. Owusu had return experiance, better size and combine numbers but I didnt get to watch him play. Franks had experiance in bigger games and playing against better players. Alot of people had Cook rated above both players. Even though I was intigued by Cooks size his combine numbers werent too good, no return experiance, and he didnt stick out to me at all during the college football season. I was really hoping Kareem Jackson, CB- Alabama fell to this spot. I didnt read much on him because he was already picked so I dont know if he has return experiance but he is good enough in coverage that I didnt care. If I picked him the 49ers could have used any round to select anyone with return skills regardless of position.

My 3rd round pick was Morgan Burnett S Georgia Tech. No way he falls this far. Burnett was tied for the nation with 9 ints. and led his team with 149 tackles his sophmore year. He went 4 and 80 something in tackles his junior year. I was origiannly going to go 3-4 OLB, but Safety was a bigger need and I feel Burnett was BPA over the 3 3-4 OLBs I was looking to select- Koa Misi, Utah; Eric Norwood, South Carolina; and Ricky Sapp, Clemson. I had them in that order even though Norwood and Sapp both went in the 3rd round mock and Misi didnt.

I'd like to say that I would not have drafted Tebow if I knew the Skins would have traded for McNabb...

Deep did a great job with the Browns. Haden, Anthony Davis, Damien Williams, and Rashed Jones all could be starters for our team.

If I went with a team that just kept their 3 picks and drafted who came to them it would be the Giants. They grabbed very good players at their biggest areas of need for the team.

Giants LAMP 1st: Sean Weatherspoon LB; 2nd: Lamarr Houston, DL; 3rd: J.D. Walton, C, Baylor

Not really at fault here since no picks until the 3rd, but I don’t like Capers either (I think at best he’s a backup), so Chicago might end up empty here.

Quote:

Which pick was the biggest reach?

Campbell @8 to Oakland. Now, Al Davis may actually pick him and that may have been the point there, but I don’t value Bruce as an OT very much especially considering the great class of OTs available.

Quote:

Which player most likely fell the furthest?

1. Anthony Davis might end up being a top10 pick. Deep got him for us at #26.
2. I couldn’t imagine Burnett and Rashed Jones lasting until the late 3rd.
3. Graham is another late 3rd pick who is more likely a 2nd rounder.
4. Sapp has so much potential, that I see someone taking a chance on him much higher up (after Kindle and Hughes are gone)

and Trent & Dez was definitely the way to go there for SF. Crabs/Dez/Vernon with Gore/Coffee is one heck of a battery to have. If Singletary can keep all those egos in line.

------------------------------------

as for the Cowboys, I really wanted to end up with an OL or S pick in my group. but, being good Browns fans that we are, all the OL picks went a bit earlier than I would have expected (except Anthony Davis who I missed by one pick) and I didn't want to reach.

I went with who I had as the best CB in round1 because they have been horribly inconsistent there and they really need to just get an upgrade and let Jenkins and Ghee (in my case) grow into their roles.

Second round, I went with Carrington because Dallas desperately needs some upgrades along the DL and some youth as well.

Finally, it wouldn't be a Jerry draft without some flair, so I added some of that flair with the last pick in Dexter who could give Jason Garrett some real good options (if he can keep Romo off his back).

what really happens though is that they probably trade their 2nd round pick to Baltimore for Gaither as many have been suggesting.

Haha, yup, that's what I was going for.

I picked as Al Davis. It actually is a big need for them, but I personally would have taken the BPA there for them, which wouldn't have been Campbell. I just wanted to play it out there like I was Al Davis picking his size/speed workout specimen. The rest of the picks, I went with some values and BPAs there. I think a found a few that slid a little.

Plus I got McNabb- gotta protect him!

This is tough. I loved the 49ers 1st round. The Giants, Texans and Saints had really good drafts as well. I'd probably go with the Saints.

I agree about the Browns draft. It fills 4 huge needs and no players were a reach. I would be estatic if they Browns came away with those players. All 4 players could step in and start early in the season. Good work Deep.

I agree with what you said about o-line flying off the boards. Browns fans love their o-line. Saying that though, Im suprised with how far Trent Williams and Anthony Davis fell.

I like what TopDawg16 did with Tampa. He got Suh, Golden Tate (I like him more than others, I think he made Clausen look good like how Winslow and edwards made DA look good) and CB Kareem Jackson. Thats 3 guys that can come in and contribute right away.

Arizona did a good job getting Jerome Murphy and Ricky Sapp in the 3rd round.

If I didnt draft Dez, that was my targeted WR in the latter rounds. I really like Golden Tate but he seemed to similiar to me like Crabtree. I wanted a taller speedster WR. If I got the 49ers their DB and o-lineman in the first round, I was thinking of getting him in the 2nd round even.

Utah OLB Mosi didnt get drafted either and I had him rated ahead of 3 other OLBs.

thanks for the props, logo. I bothered some Giants fans on a MB for their needs, then went with the BPA at those positions after doing some research.
I'd evaluate others but I'm not schooled enough on all these players. I'd say the 49ers and Broncos both got some good players.

Players that I was surprised were not drafted by the end of round 3.

Ben Tate, Joe McKnight. Dan LeFevor, Tony Pike. Ed Dickson, Major Wright, Koa Misi, Javier Arenas.

Players that I was surprised to be drafted.

Austin Lane, Torrel Troup, Selvish Capers.

There will be no playoffs. Can’t play with who we have out there and compounding it with garbage playcalling and worse execution. We don’t have good skill players on offense period. Browns 20 - Bears 17.

I was really frustrated at the end of the 3rd for the Chargers, All the corners were gone. and Graham and Sapp were off the board a couple of picks before.

The mock provided some insight as to what others are thinking and about other specific needs. I would not be surprised if 30-35 corners were taken. I also think that RB will fall.

Based on tidbits here and there, would not be surprised if Troup becomes a Brown.

Also with 1/2 the teams running some semblance of a 34, his draft value will be higher than it would have been in previous draft years.

I already talked to you about that via PM's. I disagree. I don't think the Eagles' main needs were filled.

their o-line is pretty banged up, and aging....gotta get fresh bodies in there....I wanted to get a OLB but when I saw Dan Williams slip that far I was more than happy to turn the card in for him.....

everything I did in my short study of Phila told me they need 0-line help

Thanks. I too, like Tate more than most. I had the thought in my head, that I HAD to come away with Tate in the 2nd round. I think he's going to be a start in the NFL.

I think I added the best player in the draft (Suh), the #2 WR, and the #2 corner.

Not only do I think I got top guys at their positions, I filled big needs for Tampa.

I like the move Deep made to get back into the first to take Anthony Davis for us.

I like San Fran's draft, too. Coming away with Trent Williams and Dez Bryant would be a real nice draft.

I have another question I would like to add to the discussion for the people that participated in the draft or for the people that have followed. With some of the recent trades (and this could be awnsered later for the trades that come before or during the draft), what would you have done differantly?

With my team, the 49ers traded for Ted Ginn. I selected Dez Bryant at #17 and Dominique Franks CB at #49. WR wasnt the biggest need for the 49ers because they have Crabtree and now they have Ginn who its been said that will compete with 2 other guys for the #3 WR spot. I just felt Bryant brought the 49ers offense with Gore,Crab, Davis and Coffee to a whole new level. With a draft deep in DBs I had the luxury to make that pick. Especially since Im happy with Franks and real happy with Morgan Burnett. But I feel Franks was a bit of a reach. I have seen some mocks with him being taken that high. CBSs draft site had 2-3 CBs ranked higher than Franks but still had Franks taken before them in their mock. Now knowing that the 49ers have Ginn, and even though the 49ers biggest need is CB (Safety isnt far behind) I might have went with Nate Allen from USF or Jones out of LSU over Franks. It might have change my mind on how I went in the 1st round too thinking WR is now not a need at all. I might have reached for Kyle Wilson CB Boise St.

So for those of you with teams that made a trade and for those of you following (I think McNabb was traded during this draft. I guess whoever had Philly could say what they would have done with the extra picks), is there anything you would have done differant?

no_logo- with the addition of Ginn, do you still feel Dez and Trent are still the way to go over Mays and Davis (Trent still might have been there). The teams that picked 14) Seattle too Baluaga earlier in 1st round,15) Giants took LB Witherspoon,16) Titans took Earl Thomas didnt go o-line. Or do you think Ginn wouldnt be much of a factor anyways to still grab Bryant? Heck, the addition of Ginn make that offense that much more explosive having Vernon Davis, Gore/Coffee, Crabtree, Bryant and Ginn on the field at the same time? I didnt look into the team that much to see exactly what formations they run the most or how much they use their FB. If Alex Smith couldnt win with those weopens, I would say he is a way bigger bust then Tim Couch.

I don't believe Ginn factors in at all with that pick. SF badly needed his KR/PR abilities and was picked up almost solely for those. Anything he gives them on offense (most likely WR3 or gimmicky plays) will be seen as gravy.

Crabs/Dez/Vernon is still a crazy combo (in all senses of the phrase)
