she was disrespectful, no doubt about it.

that being said, i'm going head hunting on anybody that puts their hands on my daughter that way. she didn't hit the cop at all. there's zero reason to be that rough with a teenage girl just because she's being rude. call the parents or something.

and the cop had a past that all the students were talking about. dude was already known as mr. tough guy with a badge who likes to be rough with the students.

There's plenty of people calling the girl out. we roll in very different social media circles, apparently.

Makes me think of JM and his interaction with the cops.

Some people respect authority, some fight it.

I have no doubt had JM been rude, aggressive, just a plain jerk and got in the cops face, they'd have tased him.

It's odd how, if you respect authority, you don't get in as much trouble as you do if you don't respect authority.

With that said, I direct this towards Swish: From the limited video I've seen of it, (the girl in Carolina), no, the cop didn't need to do all he did. I'm sure he was frustrated, but at no point did the girl threaten or go after him. Excessive use of force. The cop would've, in my opinion, been justified in using reasonable force to remove her.

Yea I agree with that. Had he used reasonable force to try and remove her from class, he would've been just fine(can't believe I sided with a cop)

But he didn't. He treated her like some drunk dude in a night club. Way too much.

What ever happened to shut your mouth, do what you are told and press charges, sue or whatever later? Most of these types of cases involve people not doing what they are told. This individual had several opportunities from several different people to do what she was told.

quote by DC above:

"The most popular story on social media right now..."

I am very saddened by this story.

Racism towards blacks is not going away and it'll get stronger. I feel it in me. They don't want it to go away. (playing the race card often results in benefits). Unfortunately, they may get their wish.

If this same incident had happened in China they would have arrested the parents. And they would have faced severe punishment. The girl would be given two options:

1) Don't do that again (and she would have been branded for life with no hope of a successful (by China standards) life), and
2) Or else.

Absolutely! Then blame the schools for failing society and chaos in the classrooms. Snicker....snicker......

That's called a facist police state.

Funny because you want evenybody to bow down to authority, yet start complaining at the thought of said authority taking you're guns.

Please don't cherry pick.

Not sure, I've heard rumors from the Sheriff's office that there is a 3rd video that shows she did hit the cop. Will believe it when I see it.

You make the assumption that she has parents or that they care enough to do anything. The one quote from her friend who also got arrested leads me to believe she has really no adult supervision... I'm sure more details will come out.

But the moral of the story is that your daughters wouldn't act that way, because you would never let it get that far. I would bet my HOUSE that this is not the first time this girl has been a problem, I would bet that they have contacted everybody they can think of to help get this girl under control.... that would be speculation on my part.

At the same time, a story that is getting MUCH LESS press, a HS boy in California slammed the principal to the floor. This is what becomes of some kids who are never taught to have any respect for authority and that they are untouchable in school and cannot be held accountable... not all of them are 140 lb girls.. some of them are big ol' boys.

I seen that video. I wish that cop would've been there to handle the boy because he absolutely deserved it.

But it's two different situations that got handled the wrong way.

Maybe it wouldn't happen to my daughter, but you never know because these cops are going on ego trips and looking for trouble.

The full video shows the girl hitting the cop after she's already been dragged and abused on the ground.

Sorry, but you can't expect a panicking teenager to not defend herself. I'd absolutely start swinging because I'm scared for my life at that point.

My point is that I doubt your daughter would ignore repeated requests by the teacher, the administration, and the police to get up and leave the room after initially refusing to put her cell phone when asked.

So what should the cop have done? What should the school have done? Let's assume for the sake of argument that there is really nobody in this girls life who is going to instill any discipline in her at all or make any moves to hold her accountable... What do you do?

Arch and i already discussed it. He could've used reasonable force.

But come on DC, he handled her like a bouncer does frat guys at a bar. was any of that really needed?

Education psychology proves corporal punishment, punitive means, and tactics used as shown by the officer doesn't work. The girl was definitely in the wrong, but the officer had no means to act like that. Teachers get fired for acting like that. I've seen it with my own two eyes.

But...continue on with "back in my day!" discussion and rally against "soft pansies who expect everything".

The Police need to learn to protect their job first and the public second. Make an arrest after everything has calmed down and never try to effect a situation, just mop it up and do the paperwork when its over.

People know best these days how to handle crimes and danger, let them.

well, we now know why she was a troubled kid.

16 year old girl is an orphan living in the foster care system after losing her mom

I guess the question becomes does a non violent act of defiance rationalize the violent response towards a 16 year old girl in school.

My answer is no. The girl was certainly being defiant, but that's no excuse for the way the officer treated her.

Yea, this is what I'm talking about. Cops should protect their jobs first and the public second.

You are a White Cop and the guy you pull over is Black? Don't be foolish! Radio for backup and for a Black officer too, just like when a woman needs to be search and you call in a Female officer.

If the situation looks dangerous or threatening, just wait by your car until backup arrives and then decide what you want to do. Perhaps call for a Supervisor.

Better yet, if the situation is dangerous, just tell the driver its ok, he can leave.

I know this is not what Police officers got into this job to do but times have changed and people don't really want your services anyway unless you do it their way.

Watch a crime going down, stay out of it but watch so you can be a witness in court. Protect your job! Wait for backup!

Carry a nail with you so you can run over it, preventing you from getting to a scene that might be iffy.

What a good black friend you have there to make your party not appear racist.

However, I hate to talk for dead people so I let them do it themselves. Here's Dr. King's view on the start of the Republican party's paradigm shift:

The Republican Party geared its appeal and program to racism, reaction, and extremism. All people of goodwill viewed with alarm and concern the frenzied wedding at the Cow Palace of the KKK with the radical right.

On Friday, New York City Police Officer Brian Moore was laid to rest, after being shot in the head while sitting in an unmarked car. Just days before his shooting, PBS’s Tavis Smiley prophesied that “Protests and riots–uprisings–could become the new normal,” adding “Welcome to the new America.”

The Washington Post’s Richard Cohen has since noted, the data points also suggest “a worsening racial situation,” and that “should give us all cause for worry.” We ignore all this at our peril.

For Clinton, whose election plans hinge on re-energizing the Democrats’ Coalition of the Ascendant, implicitly painting the police and the system as the culprits.

But making the police the fall guys for urban dysfunction is a loser, and championing unrest is hardly a confidence builder. Things can quickly unravel.

On Saturday night, two policeman were fatally gunned down in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, the first time officers were killed in Hattiesberg in 30 years. The blue uniform may be morphing into the new bulls eye,

The Police are on the front line as our Society fails. Civil disobedience and refusing an officers commands is seen as the officers fault. Police mustt learn to protect their jobs first and the people, well whenever...

So the cop was in danger of life from this orphan 16 year old?

Man... I guess the standards for being a cop has been lowered.

If you bothered to read my posts you would have seen what I said on page 4...

Effective management of human beings involves giving them choices. You trick them into thinking they have the "power", but really they're following the two mostly positive options you gave them.

So why did the teacher and principle end up calling for the Policeman? They should have handled it themselves.

The Cop should have walked in and told them Effective management of human beings involves giving them choices. You trick them into thinking they have the "power", but really they're following the two mostly positive options you gave them.

Then he could leave with his job.

How is his a society issue?

A kid isn't suppose to be down and out after being placed in the foster care system after losing her mother?

Don't every claim moral high ground again. You have none.

This morning, I heard the police spokesman said they have video proof that she hit the cop. Was that enough justification, I don't know. I don't have all the facts.

What I am wondering is what is he supposed to do? He can't shoot her. The cops can't use tasers anymore, as they kill sometimes and makes for viral video. He can't cuff her until she's out of the desk. Maybe he could have called in more cops to carry her and the desk out, but if she falls she'll sue them.

I guess she should be allowed to disrupt the class until she's too old to go to school. Sad state of our nation lately.

It IS a societal issue. In school, the teacher is the authority figure. If the teacher can't handle it, a superior is called in. If he/she can't handle it, yeah, get the cop in there. Kids - well, too many kids, think bucking authority is cool and something to be proud of. It's not. Society has taught them that, yet at the same time, society has taken authority away from teachers, principals, and even cops. (and please don't start in with the "cop was too rough" crap. I know that, I said that.)
Quote:

A kid isn't suppose to be down and out after being placed in the foster care system after losing her mother?

Absolutely the kid should feel angst. I would. You would. I, or you, might even act out a little. But that doesn't excuse completely not listening to 3 different authority figures, does it? All the girl needed to do was stand up and walk out of the classroom. And no, I'm NOT excusing the actions of the cop, at all.

A societal problem that is growing is the desire (probably not the right word) to buck authority in situations where it is pointless. We don't live in a society where it's "I can do what ever I want", although kids are getting that impression.

Hell when my dog died I stopped carin for a while. I can't imagine losing my mom at that age.
