Guess the whole checking himself into rehab was just for show.

Look guys, the kid is just that, a dumb kid who doesn't care about this organization or winning. Why are we boo hooing over him not starting? He clearly doesn't care. It's way past moving on time.

Take a look at the pics of Johnny helping out at the food bank in Cleveland.. Then tell me he's just a dumb kid who doesn't care.

As if the food bank thing is more than a photo op for the organization.

I dunno, I guess because he checked himself into rehab and said he would quit drinking. Just another lie, if questioning that makes me a jilted broad than so be it. smirk

I tend to agree. Ok....maybe Pet does't like him. I might not likr him either, but naminig him 3rd team doesn't help any effort to trade him.

From a pure business standpoint, it seems you would want to build some positive tape on the guy.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

The whole thing is just a huge contradiction. It's a mess. Everyone is in over their head. Mistakes on top of mistakes.

Yeah, I'm sure he drank all 1K worth of alcohol himself. Rich people, especially athletes, tend to buy drinks for people, sometimes the whole bar.

Heck, when I was in Blacksburg for the OSU/VT game I bought about 50 Hokie fans drinks at a bar, cost about $400. I two drinks out of that $400. I am certainly not rich, but people do occasionally buy drinks for others.

Are you an NFL QB who has a problem with authority, lying, and was in rehab during the off-season?

I think this job is too big for him and he did this on purpose knowing they'd bench him.

I hope the fans chant Johnny's name the entire game.

I hope that the "real distraction" is properly identified.

A guy drinking is a huge distraction? Pffftttttt

Or, a stadium chanting a guy's name because a coach being stubborn and calling more attention to the scene?

Freaking Greg Hardy is playing football. Why does everyone freaking ignore that? He beat the crap out of that girl. She had DEEP BRUISES over most of her body. He gets to play and JM gets benched for holding a pink champagne bottle?

WTF is wrong w/this picture?????

Greg Hardy playing is wrong. Manziel being a liar and an idiot is also wrong. They are different degrees of wrong, but both are wrong.

I act of drinking alcohol was not wrong. The act of lying to his bosses is wrong.

Manziel straight up lied and people are defending him like he is some kind of savior.

I do not even remotely think he is a savior - heck, I don't even really like him. I just cannot take the hatred that the fan base has towards him - he did absolutely nothing wrong. I know the quote of him saying he wouldn't cause any issues is floating around in many of the threads - what issues did he cause? I haven't seen any quotes where he said he wouldn't go out, just that he wouldn't have any issues. He had no issues, a few pics in a bar is not an issue.

People make it seem like he killed a litter of puppies or punched a baby in the face. He had some drinks and frankly the Brown's have made it into a circus, not him.

Obviously you and I are not going to agree on this so it is really rather moot to continue going back and forth. We both see this very, very differently and that's cool my friend!

Ok for everyone backing this kid and his constant string of antics. Where's the pics and videos of jaemis Winston or Derek carr? Oh maybe it's Marcus mariota or Blake bortles we are looking for. None yet? What about Tyrod Tyler? Still drawing blanks? Maybe because these young kids fresh out of college realize that being a qb in the NFL is one of the toughest most demanding positions an athlete can have. So all of you mean to tell me it's ok and acceptable to YOU as a fan to have him disregard what the team that pays his bills asks him to do for a simple 5 day weekend? If he was your open heart surgeon how comfortable would you be laying on this kids table after watching his "innocent" video? There are plenty of examples of players that get it and want to succeed in this league and this isn't it.

What about Ben Rothlisberger or Michael Vick? We can play these games all day long - they did much, much worse than Johnny ever has early in their careers. In the end, if he can play it really doesn't matter, I'd just like to know if he can. Having some drinks on his freaking bye week is an asinine reason for demoting him.

Everyone has a different personality. When I was in my 20's I traveled a lot for work. I also partied a lot after work as I was out of town. I would routinely be out until 2am and get up at 6 for work. I was the top performer at the consulting firm I worked at every year I was there. I did nothing illegal and performed my job to the highest of standards. Partying on your off week has nothing to do with how you will perform as a QB.

Johnny Demoted

Quote:
The video was taken three days after Manziel was named the starter for the final six games of the season, and after Pettine sat him down and gave him a stern warning to behave off the field -- especially during the five days off for the bye weekend.

But Manziel partied it up on Thursday and Friday nights, and then tried to pass off the video as old on Monday when asked about it at the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, where he was volunteering.

"It was something that we felt had violated the trust that we had put in him before the bye coming out of the Pittsburgh game and it was a decision we made as a result of it,'' Pettine told the Cleveland Browns radio network Tuesday.

Stern warning? All things being equal - this is so weird. This reads like a High School Coach move (in the above context) and the Coach is your Dad.

Stern warning? Whether you like him or not - Johnny is a grown man and he was given a 'stern warning'? So what did he do again? party? Did he drink - and yes I saw the pics with booze in his hand? Did he do drugs? b/c he was at a party and looked to be partying?

Shoot - sounds like he was treated like a kid - if the article is true - are responded as such..IMO

So you're now hob knobbing the steelers. Ben deserved far worse than he got but the organization is hog tied to his success so what choice did they have? Charlie Batch? And Vick WENT TO FREAKIN JAIL TO PAY FOR HIS CRIMES. Did his time and lost a ton in the process. Haven't heard one negative peep about him since serving his time. Seriously that's the best you got? I would think Ray Lewis was a better argument than either of those. Or Aaron Hernandez. Oh wait that's right they cut him as soon as they heard what happened. Come out of the corn fields and join the rest of the world. They said keep your nose clean and out of the tabloids. He is so intelligent he flew right down to where he has had the most publicity and boozed it up for all to see.

I will still watch because 3 years without a team was complete torture. I said back then I'd rather have a bottom of the barrel team to watch than none at all. Paying to watch on the other hand is out of the question. Godspeed for those going to that atrocity called a game Monday night.

I don't think the relatively tame partying is the issue. I think Pettine told Johnny to not go partying, Johnny said he wouldn't and then he still did. It's a trust issue and with Pettine that is everything.

I feel like Johnny ends up with the Cowboys and does well. That organization knows how to make it work with these kinds of players I think.

Wouldn't matter. Pettine and Farmer won't be here to make the trade anyway. I think Pettine sees the writing on the wall and wants to finish his time here with a QB he likes. Johnny just gave him the excuse.

Johnny isn't the answer. Johnny was never the answer. Another wasted pick by this busted ass franchise.

I agree. The guy went to a club. So what??? I was a supporter of Pet, but this is crap.

It seems the coach and front office are more interested in team image then they are in winning football games.

Of course I'm watching - its the Browns!

But I still don't get it.
How do you expect a kid on an off week not to go to a party as a 22 year old. IF we were a Jesuit order of priests ok I understand that.

Of course if he is an outright Alcoholic and drug abuser maybe then - but again I don't think I ever met an alcoholic without a DUI or an arrest. The NFL has their drug testing and he is not in their protocol. I just don't get it.

Well obviously this is the end of Manziel being a Brown. We will trade him in the off season before the draft, Draft another.

Just when he was "GETTING IT"

Manziel must of had serious problems???
If there was no social media he would be starting.
He didn't hide anything he posed for pictures with his buddies.

I still don't get it. smh

He is still relatively cheap

Hopefully Manning (as VP) and Tom Moore (as QB whisperer) can get something out of him.

He had a similar rocky start in college then a new coach came to town - he won the job ... Heisman etc.

(Let's just hope he avoids the arrest that proceeded his college starting days)

I think we got one of the best QB staff that I've seen here now. If we change things that is not one of them.

Knobbing the steelers? really? LMAO. I used an example, of which there are hundreds more. Greg Hardy? Adrien Peterson?

Lol, you are a piece of work. How did he not keep his nose clean? Going to a club isn't keeping your nose clean, lmao. You must be a lot of fun at parties - do you knit? Maybe play some golden oldies?

How is using Ben or Vick not a good example? As a note, I have no problem playing either of them as well. Vick did do his time, and I have no problems with him playing. Ben did his time too, but the Stoolers never benched him.

By doing this they brought more attention to the team than by not doing anything. He did absolutely nothing wrong at all. Must be nice to live in your world goody 2 shoes.

You sir need to "come out of the cord fields" as YOU are in the minority of Browns fans on this one. Heck, I've never seen so many people on this board AGREE that never AGREE with one another. That tells me something right there.

Are you related to someone in the FO? Sticking up for them at this point is absurd.

Did Pettine tell any other player not to go partying? Why not? Because pics of anybody else partying don't go viral?

So then it's the pics and the media that is the difference. His team mates can go party because nobody, but nobody cares. But Johnny is an easy mark. Post his pic on a website and it gains clicks. Show his pic on a tabloid TV show and it gains viewers. Do enough of either and it's all over the TV Nationally.

It's about the media. It's not about Johnny.

I listened to that yesterday. He got emotional because his team is screwed up by this. He wasn't crying because he is such a big Johnny fan. He just hates that the Browns are in this mess. He wants good things for his team.

I agree. I just clicked on this headline: "Johnny Manziel’s Austin Night Out, Chronicle’s Breakfast Taco List, and More A.M. Intel" Because I thought it would have some new info.

http://austin.eater.com/2015/11/25/9799474/johnny-manziel-austin-night-out-chronicle-breakfast-tacos

It didn't. It had a 23 word sentence about Manziel being benched, and 8 other "statements" about the city of Austin. (restaurants, etc)

But hey, it got clicks, right?

im a browns fan but i dont think drinking in a bar and rapping is gonna hurt our 2-8 reputation. im pretty sure the staff makes us look bad enough. the horrid defense and miss managing the game. timeouts not used..running the ball once in a second half.

isnt pettin a defensive guru? kinda funny how he said hes gonna help out the offensive side of the ball.

hehe im in rant mode...

I`m good with Baker... Playoffs is good enough for me.
