Also, while it's enlightening to hear what Thomas says, it's amazing to see the incompetence around him. When they break down the 2nd play, Tate gets tackled for a loss because our FB literally blocks our WR and leaves the Steelers guy wide open for the tackle.

I think on that play the receiver was to take the ILB since he had the angle and the FB was to take the outside guy, or the FB saw the receiver was taking the ILB and the FB had to try to take the outside guy. Either way, our guys got crossed up.

I seriously hope we keep him around long after he retires from playing. He is a positive person who obviously is good at what he does. He could help our line for years after his playing days are done.

Thanks - thats been the case last year and this year. I have defended the OL although there is a breakdown here and there. For the most part with teams stacking 8+ in the box time and again the failure of the run is due to a TE or FB being totally incompetent in their blocks.

I am always fascinated by these types of things. I played organized football in elementary school, but that was the extent of it. I never got into anything advanced, so it's pretty neat to hear it from someone who knows so much in depth stuff.

79...thanks for posting. This is an excellent article. For some reason, if there is video, I can't get it to work.

The pictures help to illustrate the points Thomas is making in the article. Blocking is all about using technique (footwork, angels, leverage) to move the defensive players.

I hope so too. Just make him the permanent o-line coach forever. That way at least one part of our team will always be awesome!

Work toward making him the next John Madden and a future HC here

Anyone who doesn't read the article is doing themselves a disservice. Just because Joe Thomas is so damn funny.

"Joel can count to 1 and 2. Even though he went to Nevada, he can still figure out who the second guy is. And so he easily blocks that guy."

Although I'm not so sure Joe Thomas should be hired as our offensive line coach after this. He's far too intelligent to serve in just that role.

Hardly surprising.

Constantly changing coaches leads to constantly starting over, which leads to constantly struggling.

Which, I believe, sabotaged at least 2 weeks of the season.

Like it or not, rumors like that hurt a team .. especially a less talented team that is struggling.

This is not good news. Was afraid of something like this happening. Pretty sure Mack will follow his lead also. Probably Schwartz, who was getting better. How I don't know. Ever since that line coach got fired we haven't been able to stop a light breeze.

Man, just think about this .....

The Browns may be breaking in a rookie QB next year, and have an OL that has lost Joe Thomas, Alex Mack, and Mitchell Schwartz.

OL are generally loyal, but man, when you change coach after coach and scheme after scheme, it has to wear on them.

Does anyone have Cousins' number? We may need him to start at LT next year. crazy

At least Thomas is under contract. Mack is a free agent because we botched his last contract.

It's the Browns. Bank on this being exactly what happens. That being said too bad it won't be #2 playing behind the new line. It would serve him right.

Joe could always just decide that he's had enough, and retire. He would then go into the Hall of Fame on the 1st ballot, and also having made the Pro Bowl in every year of his career. (not to mention never having missed a game)

How about we make Joe the HC...

He seems to have the right thing to say..Like Pet..

And he's not afraid to point out everyone else's mistakes like Pet..

And everyone, well almost everyone loves JT...

His word is gospel..everyone turns to Joe..

Yep.. he should be our next HC...

We haven't had a playoff win since Joes been here.. He will fit right in as a HC...

I predicted that JT would want out if Pettine is fired.

The entire team knows that the problem with the Browns is management..the people who made the moves that destroyed the team that was 7-9 a year ago.

Gonna be a bunch who want out..Mack, Thomas, Swartz..and that just on the Oline.

Thanks Jimmy H.
