I'm looking back at the Giants' drafts and trying to figure out how they won two Super Bowls. Reese started as the GM in 2007 and these are his first round picks:

Aaron Ross, Kenny Phillips, Hakeem Nicks, Jason Pierre-Paul, Prince Amukamara, David Wilson, Justin Pugh, Odell Beckham, and Ereck Flowers.

Drafting is really, really hard.

Finding guys like Victor Cruz, Hakeem Nicks, and Mario Manningham to boost your WR core helps. He also drafted Ahmad Bradshaw late. Also got something out of Rashad Jennings. He's extremely good at finding skill position guys, maybe the best at it.

I agree. He also has completely ignored the linebacker position for several years.

I would agree with you that he would be the best GM we would have had since the return. That is not hard to do though.

If we want to replace Farmer, there is absolutely no better alternative. Guys like Ozzie Newsome aren't coming here.

It would definitely be nice to have someone who has a track record of success running a team somewhere in the past. Especially because Haslam is still a new owner.

I can live with him missing certain positions if he absolutely nails it at other areas. The Seahawks suck at drafting offensive linemen. Who's the last great WR Belicheck drafted?

The stable culture and Manning have a lot to do with their success as well. You can miss on picks once in awhile when you have those things.

I will say, however, that Manning is a complete enigma. Two time Super Bowl winning QB who has never really been good consistently. His career has been so odd.

Denver's tackling doesn't look a whole lot better than ours. Maybe I'm just expecting too much from our D?

Neither has their coverage. McCarron is looking pretty decent, but those WR's are doing crazy things.

so if Denver loses this game and next week and Pittsburgh beats us the Steelers are still in the playoffs

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Boston is far to the left as KC settles into the slot. Fannin is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Sampson are split in the backfield as the ball is hiked ... Here we go."

Burfict was such a steal. I really did not think he was going to get his life together without his best friend from ASU. I'm glad that he did get his life together. Just wish it was on a different team.

Burfict was one of the best linebackers in CFB. Pretty sure he was a top recruit coming out of HS too. He was literally batcrap insane and threw a season long tantrum his final year at ASU. The problem wasn't that he couldn't play. The problem was, can he play without going berserk?

Not sure why Denver elected to receive.

Did they not see how well choosing to kick off worked out of Belichick yesterday?

He cost them the game in OT because he couldn't stay in control. Heh.

Just giggly over a Cincitucky loss! And a QB issue as well.

AND we get (I think) to keep PitBorg outta the playoffs.

Good day that!

Pitsburg needs a win and a jets loss to make it in. I would love to see our team do it's part. At least we don't have a meaningless game for the last game this year.

If we're thinking that we're set at QB with Manziel, then I say that we need to stomp them because at the worst, we'll drop to picking 5th.

If we think we need to grab a QB at the top of the draft, then we need to make it look good, but lose.

Honestly I don't see any player worth taking in the top 5 over getting a top 10 1st and a 2nd or 3rd. Picking later would certainly help the bidding. I think we need to take this game.

On the topic of "Other Games"...

AJ McCarron has wrist sprain, unsure for Week 17
NFL.com

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback AJ McCarron's injury suffered during Monday night's 20-17 loss to the Denver Broncos might be worse than initially thought.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday that McCarron's left wrist sprain is significant. However, since it's on his non-throwing hand, he's intent on going. The Bengals will not be sure whether to start McCarron until later this week.

Cincinnati's third quarterback is Keith Wenning, a second-year player out of Ball State, who has never taken a snap in the league. The Bengals also signed quarterback Mike Kafka to their practice squad.

McCarron suffered the injury on the final fatal play in Denver, falling hard and colliding with DeMarcus Ware after fumbling away a snap in overtime. Prior to the play, the second-year quarterback out of Alabama looked more than competent in the backup role completing 63 percent of his passes for 200 yards and one touchdown.

Filling in for the injured Andy Dalton -- who may be out until the divisional round of the postseason -- McCarron has proven to be the ideal backup quarterback for the Bengals, save for the late gaffe against the Broncos. He's cost-effective, ultra confident, takes command of the offense and manages the game while still pulling the trigger on aggressive downfield throws. However, if McCarron can't perform in the postseason -- whether he's healthy or not -- impatient Bengals fans won't be very forgiving.

Why?

We're still clearly inferior to Pittsburgh and it would be obviously a fluke win. Why risk the chance of missing out on a franchise QB? So clowns at your work won't bother you? I just don't get it. Pittsburgh more than likely won't make the playoffs. However, we're still a bottom 5 team and Pittsburgh will be contenders again next year.

Do people badly need a meaningless win to somehow "feel good?"

Does picking at the top of the draft mean you are going to get a franchise QB?

I don't see the correlation. Unless there is actually a FQB in the draft.

Is there? Apparently Goff played really well yesterday. But in Rememeber the Titans he got benched and his dad had to go see the coach. LOL.

In all seriousness, is there a FQB in this draft? I really don't know.

I'm not sure what to make of this whole situation. Manziel showed real regression this past Sunday. If this Sunday is anything like last Sunday i.e., really poor throwing day, maybe we draft a QB as an insurance policy and go into next year with both. I hate QB competitions though. Nothing good ever comes out of them. You announce Manziel the starter and let it play out from there. Ease Goff or Lynch in and see how it goes. The problem is the fanbase won't stand for it. They always want the next guy up.

This whole yearly thing gets really old.

This team has pretty much sucked the fun out of the fall for me. I'm actually looking forward to the playoffs. No Browns to piss me off. Just good competitive football.

Why should the fans show up if the team is going to mail it in for a slot or two higher in the draft? Does the NFL allow you to forfeit?

They should play to win. Because it's their job and they're professionals, anything but their best effort is unacceptable. Because the people who are paying for tickets deserve to see their best effort. Because trying to win is the right thing to do. Because integrity is still important in some circles.

Well, fans shouldn't show up if we're being honest here. I genuinely don't understand why people pay for tickets when: 1. The team sucks. 2. The weather sucks. 3. You can watch at home.

Hey, if you're crazy enough to go to and watch this thing in public, more power to you. You know what the likely outcome is going to be.

1. I don't think there is a team in the NFL that loses on purpose - just too many players, yes teams do give up when they are playing for nothing. But not on purpose as some draft slot strategy. This isn't the NBA where you have 5 players.

2. Last season we beat the Steelers convincingly at home and lost at their house with a game ending FG. This year we had the misfortune of knocking out the back up QB early and then I think experienced maybe our worst coaching job on defense as we rushed 3 a lot or 4 ineffectively giving an immobile Ben time to just sit in the pocket without moving with all day to carve us up. Yeah they are hot but they just lost so who knows. Maybe their bubble bursted.
We got to bring the heat.

We are looking at #2 or #5 and possibly in between although most of those teams are looking at losses but then so are we. We have found out as fans we cannot WILL the team to win. So we cannot will them to lose not that many fans I know of will. I know if we lose I'm not going to get frustrated as yes we got a darn good slot. but 2-5 we will get a pretty good player.

3. If QB although they tend to rise we might have to drop back if we decide on one that we want.

I think Goff is risky. I would not draft him w/a top ten pick. No way. He struggles w/accuracy problems. His decision making is perplexing. He would lead the league in picks if he continues to make the same bone-headed decisions he makes against soft competition. Heck, defense is a vulgar word in his conference.

Fluke win or not, it would be sweet to send Puttsburgh to the couch, not to mention a feather in the division cap to pluck for a reminder next year.
