I'm glad Kap is a good person, but he sucks at QB. I"d much rather keep him away from here. Even at his best, Kaepernick was inaccurate. He had the Derek Anderson disease of trying to gun it to guys no matter how close they were. If a person doesn't want Kaepernick, then they should be rooting for the 49ers to hire Chip Kelly. To compare the Kaepernick, the first two years under Jim Harbaugh, to Derek Anderson is something that I consider very, very, inaccurate. I disagree. This comes from one of his biggest detractors of all time with him coming out of college. I think it's pretty fair. Both QB's are physically talented, but need a HC to really control them. Without the a great HC these QB's are pretty much like Cyclops without his glasses. Uncontrollable, reckless, a hazard. For two years Kaepernick showed the ability to be very accurate with throws. He made some dumb mistakes (occasionally Tom Brady does too), but he in no way imploded to where it cost them multiple games. He won multiple playoff games, made it to two NFC championship games, and was a part of a Super Bowl loss that many people consider a rip off, sham, fix, you name it. If Anderson made one good accurate throw, you could get a line in Vegas to bet whether the next one would be to a linebacker all alone in the middle of the field. He can't control his throws. I watched him live in college. It was amazing. And... he never changed. Kaepernick is more focused than Anderson, far more accurate than Anderson, made far fewer dumb decisions than Anderson, a mentally stronger more competitive person than Anderson. and... I've never really been a Kaepernick fan. A detractor would be a better description. JMHO

Hue Jackson is already way more enthusiastic and passionate about football and coaching than the other coaches we have had over the years. Don't worry.. this is the browns. we will beat him down to reality soon enough......

If true, then welcome aboard Hue.
Your first job is to drive immediately to Joe Thomas' & Alex Mack's houses and get them to stay with the Browns. Next stop is Schwartz's house.
After that... go ahead and take the rest of today off.
And Hue, don't forget the party at Johnny's tonight!

I hope Hue knows how to recruit guys. Robbing the Bengals of some of their players would help us tremendously. I'd love to get guys like Sanu, Jones, Smith and Rey.

I like this hire, but lets see what Jackson does. So if Hue is smart. And, he is an Offensive Coordinator. And, he started out with Cincinnati as a defensive coach. Before that, even an NFL Head Coach He is smart enough to understand one basic fact, we can conclude that he understands what a difficult threat Johnny is to an opponents defense. All coaches understand it. If Hue is a thinker and thinks things out he is going to realize something. Something that could make a lot of people uncomfortable. There is only one thing that is unstoppable, that is uncontrollable, to a well coached NFL defense. One thing that is unstoppable against a genius defensive coach. Wonder if that is why the rhetoric cooled down so much by the time of his press conference? He is going to have to understand quickly that people in this organization make very bad decisions, and don't really know what effective NFL management looks like. There are many poorly run sports franchises. They are all around. Ours has been poorly run since the boys sold the team to Modell. Its as simple as that. Money isn't enough when it comes to high level sports politics. Jimmy has got to amp up his game if he really wants to become a winner. He has to understand that he doesn't manage things effectively. Never proactively. Seemingly not very intelligently. It's as if they really don't know what to do. Successful teams look at other successful teams and compete. They steal from one another, they create new ideas. They are smart about how they run their business and build their teams. Running an NFL team is a fight. If your not tough you will get your butt kicked. Our owner gets his butt kicked by the other owners, our GM gets his butt kicked by other GM's, and our Coaches are consistently, totally, outcoached and get their butts kicked by the opponent's coaches. The one thing Jimmy needs is a General. (Sorry to sound corny, but its true.) Who knows if Hue has it in him? Is it time for change, or not? ____________________________ Bad form and bad idea dumping my thread into another. Did the CPTH get his *&%#'s all wet?

Anyone else notice, Alec Scheiner has been noticeably absent and quiet throughout this process? I believe that was deliberate to not include Scheiner is the interview process. No doubt intentional. I agree. Alec is team President. He is over the business arm of the team...things like accounting, marketing, ticketing, sales. Not direct football operations. The guy sat in a film session or two( who wouldn't want to do that?) and all of a sudden the sky is falling and he is claimed to be the one making football decisions. LOL. He would have probably been involved to some degree had people not gone bonkers over last year. Public Relations being one of his areas of responsibility, it wouldn't surprise me if HE wasn't the one to tell Jimmy he probably shouldn't go anywhere near the interview process.

But you'd better have Plan B waiting on the sidelines just in case.

That's why we need to draft a big WR in this draft. It would be great to have Josh come back and be the guy we saw in 2013 but we can't rely on that. Obviously, our new regime needs to make better draft decisions. No revelation there.

Hue loves vertical threat/attacking deep, so there's a great chance he'll keep Josh and hope for the best. As someone said above, I'd like to burn one of our picks and acquire a top threat that has some size and etc. Plan B!

It would've been great to get a better feel for how Pryor would trend as a WR. It sure would be nice if he could be our Josh Gordon plan B.

I think many fans are hopeful for the return of Josh Gordon, and for some reason, I think it's going to happen. Whether or not he returns to the BROWNS is the real question to me. His history is obviously not good, and there's no need to further discuss it. He let everyone down, multiple times, but something in the back of my mind has me thinking he's got it together. I realize that actions speak louder than words, but I just see him coming back to the league and doing well. Call it a gut feeling.
Now, as we've all thought before, getting Gordon back for 2016 would literally be like getting another first rounder...if not BETTER. Granted, many of us said the same thing last year, but I'm optimistic. It's obvious Gordon has worked hard judging by his physique, and hard work is a very positive sign. Hue Jackson has worked with some major league knuckleheads in his time, and players like Chad Johnson come to mind. In fact, Chad Johnson publicly vouched for Jackson, and credited him for some of his success when he was a troublemaker. Perhaps Hue Jackson can work some magic with Gordon.

First, Pryor isn't even under contract for next season (thanks Farmer!). Second, I would say that Manziel being an All-Pro is just as likely as Pryor becoming as good as Josh Gordon.

we don't need Pryor to be an all-pro.
we just need him to be a solid contributor.

The sky fell a long, long time ago. I am also extremely concerned about the personnel side of things with regards to the team, but I am choosing to look at it like this: Farmer was an awful GM, at least as far as his 1st round picks. A new player picker cannot be much worse. I am curious as to why you are so down on Jackson. As you know, I did not want to start over again, which was your position as well. However, out of all of the coaches available, I like Jackson the best. Further, I see him very much as I did Arians. (who I also wanted as head coach before Chud was hired) Both Arians and Jackson are innovative offensive minds. They are each more of an old school type coach. Both have experience in both college and the NFL. They are both disciplinarians, while still being able to relate to today's players. I see a ton of parallels between the 2 men. I do also like that Jackson has experience on the defensive side of the ball, in addition to his extensive experience on offense. He has helped develop young QBs, and improved veteran QBs. He has worked with good QBs, and with guys like Joey Harrington and Chris Redman. Like you, I was not in favor of making a change at head coach, but since we did, I think that we hired the best guy we possibly could have. I said, even before the season ended, that if we did make a change, Jackson was the guy I wanted as head coach. I know you wanted Saban, but he didn't leave Bama for the NFL this year. Barring him, and given that we did fire Pettine, who did you want the Browns to hire as head coach, and why?

I am curious as to why you are so down on Jackson.
What makes you think I am "so down" on Jackson? I haven't ripped him. I haven't said it was a terrible hire. I'll try and explain my feelings about this hire: --Before the end of the season, I said unless we could get a superstar HC in here [like Saban,] I would rather just keep Pet on board. I said I absolutely did not want us to go w/another unproven coordinator. You can probably find me saying that easily enough. It wasn't very long ago. --That was my stance due to the odds of an unproven guy succeeding quickly vs the reality of the growing pains the team will undergo due to new schemes and not having the correct personnel to fit he new schemes. Implementing the new schemes and acquiring the proper talent takes time. You are smart and you know that as well as I do. So again, I would be willing to do that if we could somehow hire a Superstar HC, but was not willing to go that route for yet another question mark. I think the analytics on the matter would support my theory. --I do prefer Hue to a lot of the other guys who are making the rounds as potential head coaches, but only because he does have at least one year of HC experience, while most of the guys have zero HC experience. --I am not sure that I like that Hue's Oakland team was dirty and undisciplined. The Bengals were the same way. Not a fan of that type of ball. --I am also very troubled by the fact that we have "too many chefs in the kitchen." I have never been a fan of that type of system in any profession. --And frankly, YTown...........I'm worn out. The Browns have beat me down. They keep doing the same things over and over again and never have the patience or fortitude to see things through. I hope they win. They will need to win in order to win back my fandom. I have pretty much given up on the Browns. That makes me sad, but it's just the way it is. Now, I am sure that certain posters will start saying I have an agenda and I hate Hue and blah, blah, blah.........just like they did when I criticized Pet and other coaches the Browns have employed. And in about two years, I will probably be defending Hue while those same posters are calling for him to be fired. The Merry-Go-Round of Misery continues in Brown's Land.

I can definitely understand how you can feel beat down, I know that I have felt the same way. Unfortunately, I have this character "flaw", in that when I hit bottom I don't break, but bounce instead. lol I guess that carries over to my being a fan as well. I am over the bad, and am looking forward to the future.
I felt that Arians would have been the right coach to turn this thing around. I also think that Hue is the right guy to turn this thing around. I think that the 2 men share a lot of characteristics that make for a successful head coach, and Hue has had a previous head coaching job, even though it was a short one, to learn from.

I'd like to table these points for the end of the season. Not necessarily debating you specifically. You do bring up some valid points needing valuation after this season. Mangini stepped in with basically the same attitude. It is scary comparing rosters both inherited. To think, Hue has a lot more yet still needs a ton. That is a whole different discussion! I've try staying positive during all this change. After this last dump I've decided using my state's motto..."show me!"

[quote=YTownBrownsFan I am also extremely concerned about the personnel side of things with regards to the team [/quote]
I'll try to put it in a way that makes sense to me. A sort of story or an analogy on how I view it.
Jimmy is like the politician, king, spoiled son, who has total control over his subjects for a period of time.
If he has a top, gifted, superior, General he will be able to rule for years -- As long as he doesn't interfere with the General's affairs. A valuable General will cover over a thousand ills of a weak, unskilled, person in charge. A Top General who can lead the army, kick any intruders butts, and in turn leads the people. They feel strong and safe. Sort of how things have worked many times over the centuries.
The Cleveland Browns have no General -- haven't since the little napoleon Paul Brown. Marty was a General but he had flaws. Great Generals pick out their opposing Generals flaws and take advantage of them. Marty seemed to always lose the big battles.
The fear on the personnel side that Ytown mentions, as I perceive it, is that complete and total leadership void.
No Leadership No Vision No Plan No Ability to Manage No Proactive Recognition of Problems No ....
Now, you may say: "But Hue is our New Leader!" He is what you call "The General" olskool!
If so, I hope you are right.
I really do.
Hope. That seemed to be a key word recently. The absence of hope is what was mentioned by a number of ol guard dawgs.
Jimmy needs a General. A leader. A visionary. A winner.
Hue has a big, big, job ahead of him.

You make a lot of good points, but there are 2 that I don't quite agree with.
The raiders were always an undisciplined and highly penalized team, before and after Jackson's time as HC, and I believe he was only interim HC. Hanging that one on him isn't fair, IMO. I also don't recall the Cinci offense being overly penalized, but I could be wrong. It was their D that had the knuckleheads.
Which superstar HC did you see coming here? I never bought the Saban story, as he'll be trying to break some record next year (this year he tied it). IMO, Coughlin was the closest thing to a superstar HC that was actually on the market.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

Back to Jackson:
Here is a question, asked of him on clevelandbrowns.com.
He was asked what the biggest lesson he learned as head coach of the Raiders was, and he answered: "You can’t do it by yourself. You better have a support group,”
That is what I would hope a head coach would have learned from his 1st job. (unless, of course, he had been wildly successful) I think that works both up and down from the head coach.
