I do know this Haslam has to be the guy that keeps everyone focused on working together if he fails at that again and I have every reason to believe he will, will be doing this yet again in the not so distant future. bttb...I believe Haslam got a good taste of what it's like to be the guy over the HC and GM...and he FAILED in the area of keeping the GM and HC working together. Haslam admitted as much and I believe he never wants that responsibility again.
Haslam hired Sashi to be the guy who keeps everyone working together. One of the rules to be a good owner is to know what you do not know.
IMO, getting Haslam further away from the big decisions is a step in the right direction. I think Haslam is an owner who will inject himself when and where he wants too, and will never truly move away from that. His wife being on the selection committee says more involved not less. If your the GM and HC and you have set out targets and then Jimmy shows up draft day and says I want JM he throws out any chance you have to progress in a measured way that is grounded in football knowledge. I think we are in for more of the same I really do. I agree though he admits he was the problem. He will skate for a while then come back as soon as he thinks he has a better handle on things is my bet.

j/c: Browns HC Hue Jackson targeting Tennessee's Ray Horton as his DC, but uncertain whether Titans will grant permission to leave, per source. https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter Beat you to it. Hue Da Man! Please, JUST SAY NO TO RAY HORTON! Damn, don't you all remember how pathetic our D was under this guy? C'mon man... Just so there is no confusion, Sun Dawg. I wanted to clear up the quote flow so people don't think those were my views on Ray Horton.

Did you ask him if he gave a crap? I didn't have to. I have heard it first hand from those who work with him. From Coaches on the staff, from members of his own family, and by members of his staffs family's. From players, and former players.

Pep Hamilton?
His only NFL coaching experience was in Indy. He took over for Arians and the offense has went steadily downhill under Pep. The offense did look better under Chud after Pep was fired.
A dud hire.

I don't think you can use such an old example. JH has stepped out of the way and is learning what he can or cannot do. He seems to be making these moves based on what he learned over the last 3 yrs. Lets let this play out and see where this goes. I think he's really learning and wants to get it right.

A dud hire. Jackson's calling plays so who cares about these others. Hamilton as an assistant is fine. Wilson as an assistant is fine. The name we need to hear again is Solari from GB as OL Coach. Get those guys in here and get Gordon back on the field. Sign Jones from Cincy and take Goff at 2 and this offense just improved exponentially.

I honestly believe he knows he made a mess of the Pettine/Farmer situation with his lack of experience...not knowing when to step in and when not to step in.
Here is the question though...does Sashi know how to keep everyone doing their job without interference? Sashi is just about as inexperienced as Jimmy Haslam.
Jimmy hitched his wagon to Sashi Brown and now it is Sashi's job to keep Haslam doing his job, not letting him interfere. Can Sashi handle the job?...the draft will be a good test.

A dud hire. I am so underwhelmed by the guys that Hue is reportedly chasing. Leslie Frazier was the only one worth a damn and he would rather take a positional job than DC for the Browns lol. Starting to get the feeling those 142 texts he got from coaches were from arena league.

I know I shouldn't say this cause it's not PC but it's what I see. We will have the darkest coaching staff in the NFL. I don't care if we do or don't really. But I don't think any of the 142 text messages were from anyone white. Not saying hue is, but he should take into consideration some white coaches to besides just a special teams one. Not saying hue won't hire a white guy. Just not looking like it. Every time I hear a name and google it the guy is black lol. Like a said I don't care. But it seems he is only interested in looking for minorities and others will take notice. Who wants to be the token white guy lol. You are limiting your search by half. Sensitive subject to all the PC folk. But I'm only half white so I can say it!!!!

Starting to get the feeling those 142 texts he got from coaches were from arena league. To be fair, we've only heard about five names. Also, Leslie Frazier has not been all that successful lately. I doubt he was ever going to be our defensive coordinator. 2015: 10th in yards, 26th in points 2014: 25th, 25th 2013: 31st, 32nd 2012: 16th, 14th 2011: 21st, 31st 2010-2008 he was pretty good. (Ray Horton has been much better.)

And I agree. But not looking at white coaches limits prospects in half. And that's saying he is only looking at other minorities, which I'm not saying. I just laughed at names I googled and seen pics of people we let go and some bums we are looking to bring in. It's just a visual observation that I laughed out loud over. Just get the best coaches

I noticed the same thing. I'm far from prejudice, but ALL the names with exception to Tabor being retained seem to be mediocre black coaches. Not sure if this is intentional or not but I don't like the thoughts of race being a prerequisite if it is by design.
Just get the best available people that fit the system for the jobs.

Yeah we need more white guys like Jim ONeil and Pat Shurmur.
Are you kidding me? Horton and Frazier are two of the biggest names in the business. If having a black coach gives us better access to these guys then awesome.

hahaha! Lol that's a good point. Anything upgrade over oneil, but Horton isn't really a huge upgrade. Honestly he is just a black version of Rob Ryan. Overhyped coach with crazy hair. Pep though? Come on. Is he a upgrade over shurmer? Defiantly not over Flip we just let go. I don't mind though because hue going to call plays. And I like the idea of hue calling plays. So the OC is just going to be Hue's puppet anyway. But Pep? Not saying hue looking at him because he is black, but that reason sounds better than picking pep because he is a good coach.

Why was Pep Hamilton good going into the this season and is now bad? The Colts had one of the best offenses in the league under Hamilton in 2014. The 2015 Colts were a disaster. Anything upgrade over oneil, but Horton isn't really a huge upgrade. Honestly he is just a black version of Rob Ryan. Overhyped coach with crazy hair. I am not sure if Horton is good (he is definitely better than O'Neil), but he cut his hair when he was here with us. The cornrows have been gone for awhile.

I'm getting really tired of the Joe Thomas talk. "Court" Joe Thomas? Every media outlet makes it sound like he can leave -h e may want to leave, but he cannot leave unless he retires. I agree to try and make him happy and buy in, but this nonsense making it sound like he has some sort of option to go drives me nuts. As someone else pointed out when I said the same thing, he can indeed leave. He can retire.

Looks like we are going to get Horton: Titans defensive coordinator Ray Horton will be let out of his contract and hired for the same position with the Browns, The Tennessean learned Sunday, a day after Horton was passed over for Tennessee’s head coaching job in favor of Mike Mularkey.
“They insulted him,” said John Wooten, chairman of the Fritz Pollard Alliance, which promotes NFL minority hiring.
“The Browns had put in a request to interview him, and then Tennessee interviewed him (for the head coaching job Saturday),” Wooten said. “And they said that they didn’t know that he had any interest in being a head coach. Well, that’s an insult to the man. That is just an insult.
“And then when he got in the interview, they seemed shocked that he was as prepared and knowledgeable and everything else at that point,” Wooten said. “And they of course already interviewed Mularkey on Friday, and they gave the job to Mularkey.”
Horton has since requested to be released from his contract. Titans president and CEO Steve Underwood told Horton his request would be granted, and Horton will join Hue Jackson’s staff in Cleveland, Wooten said.
Horton had been the Titans’ defensive coordinator for two seasons, but was “overshadowed,” Wooten said, by the presence of Dick LeBeau, who was hired last season as assistant head coach/defense.
LeBeau has 57 seasons of NFL experience as a player and coach, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2010, and is expected to remain on Mularkey’s staff.
Horton has played for or coached alongside LeBeau in 19 of his 32 seasons in the league and has been to five Super Bowls. Horton played safety for 10 seasons with the Bengals and Cowboys. Most recently, he was a Steelers secondary coach from 2004-10, the Cardinals’ defensive coordinator under Ken Whisenhunt from 2011-12 and the Browns’ defensive coordinator under Rob Chudzinski in 2013, prior to joining the Titans’ staff built by Whisenhunt in 2014.
The year before Horton's arrival, the Titans ranked 14th in total defense (337.9 yards allowed) and 16th in points allowed (23.8). After his first season, they ranked 27th in total defense (373) and 29th in points allowed (27.4).
This season, their second using a 3-4 defensive front and with LeBeau on staff, the Titans ranked 12th in total defense (342.2 yards per game) and seventh against the pass (229.9), but were still among the most scored upon units in the NFL, ranking 27th in the league in points allowed (26.4).
Mularkey, who guided the Titans to a 2-7 record as interim coach after Whisenhunt was fired Nov. 3, had long been considered the front-runner to land the permanent job.
Horton was one of four candidates and the last to interview for the position.
“He felt disrespected just because of the way – it’s really touchy,” Wooten said. “For them all to be in the same building and not to know what Ray Horton is about just tells you that, it’s like you don’t exist, like you’re invisible.”
Jaguars assistant head coach Doug Marrone and Lions defensive coordinator Teryl Austin were the only external candidates to interview for the Titans’ head coaching job.
Austin, also promoted by the Pollard Alliance, has interviewed for eight NFL head coaching jobs since last season.
The NFL’s Rooney Rule requires teams to meet face-to-face with at least one minority candidate for head coaching and general manager vacancies.
The Titans hired former Buccaneers director of player personnel Jon Robinson as GM on Thursday, the same day they began interviewing head coaching candidates.
They were the last of seven teams to name a head coach this offseason, after vacancies had been filled by the Bucs, Browns, Dolphins, Eagles, 49ers and Giants.
Jackson, who was the Bengals’ offensive coordinator before becoming Browns head coach, was the only minority candidate hired. http://www.tennessean.com/story/sports/n...0debd8585dc25d4

That is one strange read...bizarre is nothing else. LeBeau vs. Horton's position? “And then when he got in the interview, they seemed shocked that he was as prepared and knowledgeable and everything else at that point,” Wooten said. “And they of course already interviewed Mularkey on Friday, and they gave the job to Mularkey.” well - this is rather strange.. Does that mean we stay 3-4? After his first season, they ranked 27th in total defense (373) and 29th in points allowed (27.4).
This season, their second using a 3-4 defensive front and with LeBeau on staff, the Titans ranked 12th in total defense (342.2 yards per game) and seventh against the pass (229.9), but were still among the most scored upon units in the NFL, ranking 27th in the league in points allowed (26.4).

Does that mean we stay 3-4? Horton has only run a 3-4 in his career, so I would say yes.

"Getting" the coaches and coordinators the Browns target is an important part of building this team to win.
Horton was the guy Hue wanted, now build a defense...
...a defense that does not give the game away in the 4th qtr!

Can't say that I am all that excited about Ray, but in the end it is about players. If you don't have good players to coordinate, it can look pretty uncoordinated.

Ray is a southern storm. 2 downs of thunder and in a flash 3rd and 30 becomes 1st and 10 lol

I agree. O'Neil was almost useless. That said, we have been down the Ray Horton road a few years ago. I hope round 2 proves better. I did like one of Rays saying he picked up somewhere along the way...."Big men who can run and little men who can hit". Sounds like a good starting point.

good hire.
Chemistry b/w the coaches will be key. Starts from the top, and trickles down.

I know a lot of fans in Indy that referred to Pep as Pepe Le Pew for reason.

I think the one advantage with this staff is that they may be able to recruit free agents.guys like playing for Hue and Ray.
