No, man. He wants to be a QB coach to a team that doesn't have a QB. I'm sure he's looking forward to Doug Pederson's highly respected tutelage.

Maybe, maybe not... Chip Kelly passed on the Browns job..

Coughlin pulled his name out of the HC search, was is it his age or was it he didn't feel it was the right fit..

There's many examples...

Your not in the interviews, are you in conversation with Flip ? Hell no, all you know is to speculate on the issue.. give your opinion on what you think..we all do that..

Maybe it's really what he wants to do... Give him a call and ask him.. Then we will all know the true story..

Personally, I don't give a damn.

If they've worked together before, they have the same thinking. Coach says X and the guys he brings in understand. Simple as that.

Coaches typically hire guys that they have worked w/before. It makes sense. You either develop an trustful admiration for a guy you coaches w/before or you develop a wary distrust of the guy's capabilities and/or intentions.

I just think it's funny to see how fans look at it. It's a good thing at first, but if they tired of a coach the way the fans here tired of Pet, it then becomes "his drinking buddy." rofl

I understand the coaching community is tight knit and it is common in anything to hire people you know.

IMO the big problem with that is it can become hard to sever ties, which I think happened to Pet. As I mentioned some posts ago, I think Pet might still be here had he dumped O'Neil mid season.

Be it a personnel problem or not, Pets inaction was his downfall.

Man, that's hard to say. I mean, if he dumps O'neill midway through the season, who does he replace him with? Did we have a position coach who could have stepped in? I don't know. And would Pet have been in a position to take over DC duties full time? My guess is he wouldn't have? I understand the sentiment to jettison O'neill (I agree with it) but you have to have someone to fill the spot if you do.

Did you wake and bake ? Most, I say most because you always assume all fans got tired of Pet.. I got tired of losing and seeing a piss poor performance..

I also got tired of seeing Pet distance himself from all the other coaches and players..

Maybe Pet distanced himself from the assistants because he felt none of them were worth a crap... You know, the guys he hired, his friends and drinking buddies.

Maybe, maybe not... Chip Kelly passed on the Browns job..

you mean several years ago, right?...not this year I don't think we even interviewed him.

Vers...well its ok as long as they are not incompetent. O'Neil wasn't at practices but during the season there were some complaints on the D from the players which sort of put me down on ONeil. But yeah everybody sees losses and automatically its the buddy hire fault. Last year we were 7-4 and actually the D stepped up those last 5 games - nobody was complaining about the hire then. Of course Pet helped with the D a bit. But with Pet and O'Neil but mostly O'Neil I was disappointed with and never mentioned the buddy card.

You got to sort of admire a man sticking up for his decision and freind and not throw them under the bus.

Nobody brings up Mangini...he got destroyed because of Kokinos...not once did he throw him under the bus even after the Browns fired him mid-season.

Browns adding ex-NFL RB Rock Cartwright to staff

Quote:
The Browns are adding former NFL running back Rock Cartwright to their coaching staff as a quality control coach, ESPN’s Adam Caplan reported Monday.

Cartwright, 36, had an eight-year playing career with the Redskins, Raiders and 49ers.

The Redskins selected him in the seventh round of the 2002 NFL Draft. New Browns coach Hue Jackson was the Redskins running backs coach in 2002.

In addition to having a really cool football name, Cartwright had six career rushing touchdowns and two receiving touchdowns. He worked as a coaching intern with the Steelers during last year’s training camp.

This will not work.

Football can't be a part-time job.

He can't do this and also fulfill his other duties on the Ponderosa.

Somebody has to get the Donuts. wink

I think you assumed he was our RB coach. I don't think he has those duties...low level somebody with future growth kind of coach.

How is it that I cannot remember an NFL RB named "Rock". I mean, who could ever forget an announcer saying "Rock toting the rock to paydirt ..."?

He's just happy he got out of the NFL before Tank Carder ran over him. tongue

Seriously I'm surprised you hadn't at least heard of him, he was in the NFL for what, 10 years? It's not like he was ever a star but he averaged over 11 ypc in 2011...

Hue likes the guy. One thing to remember, most good coaches weren't the greatest players, so I wouldn't compare Rocks career to Wilberts and somehow draw a correlation to their coaching ability.

This isn't a knock on Wilbert and his ability. Coaches want their own guys for the most part. Just the way it works.

His job title doesn't say the usual RB coach...is this the Running Coordinator job? and we still will hire a Running Back Coach?

1. Hue Jackson obviously trusts him and feels confident in his Prowess to achieve the goals.

2. Rock probably knows all to well the intricacies of Hue's Offense and what he wants out of his running game...setting up other things in his Playbook.

3. His experience is a little fresher in the current style of defenses set up to defend the pass.

I liked Montgomery its a shame he goes. But we are talking about our RB Coach. Is it so alarming that we changed O once again and he is gone? Also there is the possibility (I sort of doubt it but a possibility never the less) that Wilbert wanted to spread his wings else where cause of the instability here. It would have been how many offenses in his tenure here. Maybe Philly is his destination? Didn't he play with Pederson?

It's not one isolated move, tab.
