Horrible start to the debate tonight. Nothing but arguing and no real answers, just a bunch of crap. Kasich is the closest right now.

-51 percent of all American workers made less than $30,000 last year.

http://www.washingtonsblog.com/2015/10/g...ars-a-year.html

we are gonna survive with 51 percent of the tax money GONE under cruz?

how could this possibly be realistic? the country would be destroyed.

I dunno, I think he's a level headed guy who could administer with an even hand but I prefer Ted Cruz myself.

I don't think he debates well... I think I like him outside of the debates better

I have no idea who I'm voting for yet - have a few that I know I won't vote for smile

I agree... Don't really get that - I understand not taxing maybe up to 15g or so but 36g seems a bit high

What a CF of a debate. I would much rather hear the candidates plans than them calling each other liars. CBS was looking for a cage match, I guess.

You can go to their websites and look at their positions.

Trumps positions are very uncompelling. Its why he is always vague when he speaks. The depth of his positions is about a quarter inch.

Honestly, Bernie's positions are far more compelling. Probably because he is addressing problems that affect Americans a lot more than Trump's positions do. However the rubbing point is that Bernie plans to tax people back into the dark ages to pay for his solutions. His tax plan is extremely detrimental to this country.

Its bad enough the country is headed into another reccesion. Bernie's policies would kill us all. Don't raise taxes in the middle of a reccesion.

I think that this debate will hurt Trump, a lot, in South Carolina.

His blaming GW Bush for 9-11 was just idiotic .... especially in South Carolina, where Bush remains extremely popular among Republicans there. I think that is going to really hurt him a lot.

I think that the real Trump is starting to come out, and I cannot imagine that he is going to win a conservative state like South Carolina after being exposed as anything but conservative, and taking tacts that Democrats take.

It will be interesting to see how Kasich does following this debate. He seems to be following Reagan's edict of "speak no ill about a fellow Republican". He looked, in many ways, like the adult in the room in this debate.

I am curious to see how the next week plays out.

I like some of Trump's concepts, but they really are razor thin. He has 5 concepts on his website, China/US relations, Immigration, Tax policy, the VA, and the 2nd amendment.

That's it. It is the lightest set of issues/answers of any of the remaining candidates.

After watching a debate I always scratch my head as to why I continue to watch them. No one answers the questions posed. While most of the moderators are as suspect as the candidates, Major Garrett is a straight shooter and he's not trying for gotcha questions and he deserves to be answered.

The networks should put up a running total on screen showing questions answered and questions dodged and personal attack totals. Having that front and center while the debate is on-going would fix this mess.

If the candidates who are dropping out ask their voters to vote for Trump, he will be unstoppable.

I think Trump will either fade or run the table, no in-between now.

Yeah, but they got that 'super delegate' thing going on. Another reason I'm starting to think our vote is an illusion.

i think we should do away with the RNC and DNC crapfest.

i also think people campaigning for presidency damn near 1 1/2 years out is dumb.

i know we don't wanna be like other countries, but man, some other developed nations have 3 months max candidates are allowed to campaign.

England is something like 6 weeks i think.

politics were always corrupt, but i think citizens united tipped it over to the train wreck we are currently witnessing today.

right now i dunno who's tax plan is better,

but Cruz's tax plan will have the american people back in the soup kitchen like the great depression.

i don't understand how ANYBODY could support cruz and that tax plan.

you want to eliminate taxes on 51% of americans?

there's nothing you can do to make up for that. how the hell is the country suppose to function with 51% of income tax completely gone? we already have a crumbling infrastructure. how does he plan on increasing military spending like he keeps saying?

i agree with Arch that we have a spending problem, not a tax problem. but if Cruz has his way, then we will effectively have BOTH problems. do we need to increase individuals taxes? maybe not, but we still need taxes to run the government and programs.

cause i can see it now, people wanna cry about our roads and bridges and education, but supported Cruz not taxing over 51% of working americans.

you can not have your cake and eat it too. we got these politicians promising puppies and rainbows from both political parties.

where the hell is the balance? man i hope kasich gets more support.

Uh........do you realize you agreed with me about a "spending problem? smile

I don't know Cruz's tax plan, but I do question your wording about
Quote:
how the hell is the country suppose to function with 51% of income tax completely gone?

Would it be a true "51% of income tax completely gone" - as in, the revenue the gov't. gets? Or is it "51% of people wouldn't pay income tax"? There's a huge difference between the 2.

Isn't it something like the top 20% pay around 80% of the income taxes the feds get? I don't have the exact numbers.

Regardless, and I don't know his tax plan, but I can't believe he is suggesting 51% of the tax income would be gone.........my guess is 51% of people paying A tax would be gone. Not 51% of the "revenue".

If I'm wrong, let me know. (but keep in mind swish, you agreed with me about the spending problem. smile )

i've been agreed with you about the spending problem the first time you said it last year.

the only thing i said was that it's my opinion that corporations don't pay enough. we all know they skate the taxes they are suppose to pay.

i'd have to watch the debate again, but that's what Cruz said last night bro.

"people who make 36k and under won't pay income tax, nor a payroll tax".

So just watched the CBS GOP Debate from last night on YouTube and I have to admit it was fiery! Will Trump go up or down after his attacks on G W Bush? If he wins SC big, it's over for the rest of the field. If he falls to narrow victory or defeat, Trump is done. Get the popcorn.

What I do know is that when you can't pay your bills, cutting your income doesn't help you. I find it so funny people try to ignore the obvious.

trump is right about the war in iraq being a big ass mistake.

however, i think him blaming Bush on 9/11 was over the line. people don't understand, the federal government gets hundreds of threats everyday, they have to figure out which one is serious and which ones are a load of crap.

and surprise surprise, 99% of them are a load of crap.

sometimes, they get it wrong. it ain't an excuse, but man....i just can't blame bush for that. especially at THIS time, man nobody would've thought somebody was gonna fly a damn plane into the twin towers, TWICE.

remember, most people thought it was a freak accident when the first plane hit. it wasn't until the second one hit on LIVE TV that people knew it was a terrorist attack.

And what I'm saying is, people making under $36,000 do not account for 51% of the income tax. They may account for 51% of the people paying taxes - but probably only account for less than 10% of the tax revenue - maybe even less than 5%.

The info is out there.

well, 51% of american workers make 30k and under. the number is higher when going for the 36k threshold that Cruz is talking about.

so i just need to see the stats on how much of the tax money that accounts for.

because that's over 50% of the work force. possibly close to 60%.

i don't see how close to 60% of the workforce not paying income tax is sustainable.
