Wonder what would happen if the NFL and NBA as well as other professional sports organizations had to meet a racial quota?
Interesting there is no complaint with non white athletes cleaning up monetarily in some sports and make more in a season than most people make in a lifetime.
NFL and NBA will draft anyone if they can play ball. It does not matter what color you are. If you are a athletic freak who can play(which will make the owner money) and has the best athletic ability then you will be in the NFL/NBA. Race plays no part so this is a very silly comparison.

Before I reply, can you please be a little bit more descriptive, who are you talking about specifically to walk the walk?
I agree that is how it is in the NFL and NBA, and that is how it should be. The best person should be hired/signed without regard for race. That should always be the case. I think it largely is the case in other businesses as well. The best/most successful companies are usually so because they hire and motivate the best employees. Companies that discriminate against good prospective employees due to bigotry get punished severely when competitors simply go and hire the best people.
That has nothing to do with the Oscars btw-- I couldn't care less about the Oscars and my knowledge of it would show.

It is not a great comparison because in sports you keep score.. there is an objective winner and loser.. in movies, the only objective winners are the ones who make money, not the ones who win awards.. as far as who wins awards, that's subjective... that would be like an NBA owner drafting a guy, not to win championships, but in hopes that he can be MVP one day.. It looks nice but in the end it doesn't matter.

Silly, by no means, my friend.
ALL jobs should be filled based upon competencies. I want the best, nurse, teacher etc. that can be hired to serve me. I want no employer to select and hire based upon race. These quotas are ridiculous!
You don't need to reply. My commentary is directed at and based upon ANYONE who whines!! Simply stated. That is as descript as I am going to be.
Let me be more clear, my walk the walk commentary is directed at any HUMAN who whines about opportunity while blaming everyone else around him/her.
Anyone who has an issue with that, oh well. Don't know what to say.

My point is, if the NBA and NFL hired based upon race quotas, we would have subpar teams. Skills could be considered secondary, just like they often are when businesses are made to hire based upon race to meet quotas. The best person for the job may be overlooked.
I want the best teachers, nurses etc.. Employees should hire like the NBA and NFL. Best person for the job and best to suit the next man up mentality.
Just like any awards should be given, based on best person to meet the standards of achievement as described. But, when it doesn't suit the attitudes of some, there is an outcry.

This is one of the dumbest possible things to be offended over. Who the hell cares? My biggest outrage was that dicapio took this long to win an Oscar.
Y'all need to chill out.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
Since 2000, black actors won best actor in a leading role in 2000, 2001, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2012, and 2013
Best actress in a leading role 2001, 2009, 2011, 2012

Best actress in a supporting role 2002, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013
So in 16 years, a possible 64 chances to win those 4 key awards, blacks have won 24 of them.. That's 37.5%... And those are just the winners, not even the nominees.... sounds more like they are in a drought the last couple years than some rampant racism...
And what percentage of our population is black again? Hmmmm.....
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

And honestly, while I thought he was good in The Revanant... I thought Tom Hardy was a helluva lot better in it.

and this is why we would never be friends. Dicaprio absolutely murdered that role.

Those numbers were subsequently proven to be inaccurate... but it was too late for me to delete the post..

Well, if it's come down to a disagreement between Dicaprio and Hardy, perhaps we've made more progress than we've realized! Damn shame too... we almost made it lol

I'm just chill man. i think arguing over the grammy's is taking attention away from the real problems we have in this country, and not just about race but everything else.
I don't really care about millionaires crying that they aren't being recognized so they can make more millions.
i think blacks specifically are looking for way too much recognition when the fact of the matter is we have influenced the entire planet when it comes to music and movies.
Straight outta compton is already an insanely popular movie. i get why actors have a problem with not getting awards, but speaking from a normal civilian stand point, i don't care. millions and millions of people loved that movie. so you want to an award to prove that millions and millions of people loved the movie?
Juice, poetic justice, dead presidents, i can go on and on. these are insanely popular movies that are STILL watched repeatedly. i get that people want to be recognized for their work, but that's a two way street. hollywood needs to cast blacks in better roles, but at the same time, blacks need to have better range in acting.
it was the same thing when people complained about the music industry and awards. like, are you serious? we have Japanese Trap artist now.
i dunno if you're into hip hop, but there's this rapper named tech n9ne. been around for years now. He does these collaborations with other rappers called mid west choppers. the point is to find the rappers who can rap the fastest.
he THEN did one called World Wide Choppers, and bro, he had all these rappers from different countries straight up RIP it. this one white kid from Slovakia, good lord. they all rap in their countries language as well.
then you just talk about the music industry period bro. the history, jazz, blues, rock, R&B.
so for me it's like, who the hell cares about the awards when we can physically see the influence we have around the planet with movies and music?
can we please worry about something and boycott something that actually matters? half the country doesn't even watch the oscar's anyway.

The oscars are just so rich celebrities can parade around and congratulate themselves. I don't care about it. If blacks want to complain about it...well you have your own awards shows just for blacks. Its not like there is some shortage on awards. I dont think acting is that great of a topic to get excited about. Bunch of wealthy people patting themselves on the back.
Oscars, Emmys, Clios, Grammys, Espys, country music awards........all of them: Who watches? Who cares?
Self aggrandizing people put them on and assume us normal people are enthralled with them. Like, there's nothing else to do.
It's like me giving an award to the most awesome person. I win it every time. You don't see me on t.v. bragging about it. (I do my bragging here)
But really, what are these "award" shows for? Want an award? Be in a good movie, or commercial, write a good song, etc. You need a trophy on top of the money?

His poor character.... it was Daniel Boone in a coonskin cap meets Schleprock. He had the WORST luck, ever, through that whole movie.
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.
Gotta agree with you about Tom Hardy edging out Leo . Every hero needs an anti hero and Hardy played that to perfection . From his performance I got the sense of a man whose single purpose was survival and in the process of survival he gave the hero his reason for continuing to live . Revenge .

The true story had little to do with survival for revenge.
Huge Glass wanted his 54 Cal. Hawkin rifle back which was worth more than it's weight in gold at the time. He never saw Fitzgerald again and he forgave Bridger.
But the truth rarely makes good Hollywood.

I thought that was Chris Rocks best line in his opening (he had the names and movies which I don't remember) but he said... nobody protested when the black actress didn't win best actress in 1962, nobody protested when the black actor didn't win best actor in 1965... you know why? Because they had real sh*t to worry about...
So I think things like this prove one thing... the fact that we are arguing about Oscar nominations proves we have come a long way in our views of racism... the negative is that it distracts from the serious racial issues that still exist..
So making a joke is not understanding me at all, and shows me that you don't want change, and that you want to stay divided.
Isn't that what Cris Rock did in his opening “...the white people’s choice awards.” did you find this offensive or dividing? Or is it only jokes about blacks?
I'm not divided, I have no issues with other races.
Jimmy Fallon was joking the other day about how white some of the presidential candidates were and how well they enunciated their words. Him and the audience just laughed and laughed. I thought, now if he was making fun of ebonics would anyone be laughing. The answer is no, there would be folks protesting outside the building.
How very appropriate for a lot of what passes for entertainment today.

I don't think so Gary Owns has made a career as a white man telling black jokes using black stereotypes.
