Why are we talking like Dee has already been officially announced the replacement or that this was a decision of her recommendations or maybe even orders?

Did I miss something or a link?

I simply wondered why a team needs football people or people with football knowledge to run concessions, marketing and sales, and manage the back office.

No Vers...I mentioned Dee runs the business side. You know concessions and the other crap!

How many owners are "football people"??? She knows as much about football as any other owner in the NFL. Their job is to hire the right people to run football and handle the politics/power struggles. Cleaning out bickering, power hungry distractions like Alec and the previous FO is a start. Hopefully the guys they hired are good guys who want to stay in their own lane. Jimmy has been an utter failure at this so far so maybe Dee is better at it.....i hope.

AS ran the business side ... you know the side that was involved with all those popular decisions like..

Raising ticket prices

The marketing strategy behind the uniforms

Moving TC to Columbus

I know, I know, these decisions were generally unpopular so they were Haslam's only... the business side had zero input.... lol.

AS is a money man, he made money for Jones when he pillaged Arlington for Jerry's world and he helped make money for Haslam, that's what he does. I would venture he had a lot to do with hose decisions mentioned above.

His business is business and inherent in that is bottom line thinking for his employer and himself....My guess is he sees greener pastures elsewhere... LA anyone?

Yes, but in the past she wasn't even mentioned. This is Dee Haslem move IMO. She has had an increased role in the team for the past several months. That's not a bad thing, by the way.

Did you bother to read the rest of that post of mine?

I doubt she runs any of that. Dee is a pretty smart lady. She is more into TV Production, Commercial Production. That's her forte. If anything, she's probably got her hand in stuff like that. Producing promos etc.

But I'm telling you all, I think there is more to it. Jimmy didn't look physically good. I'm sensing it's either his health or maybe stuff going down with PFJ. Maybe the Feds are closing in on him and he knows it, thus Dee is more in the mix. It would be the smart thing to do for sure.

There are no flys on Dee Haslam so she can remain the owner of the Browns.

Who knows? Maybe it is exactly as the written statement said, his role has been reduced by the new structure and both he and Haslam felt it was time to part ways. The team was paying him for services he was no longer providing and he was now sitting around twitteling his thumbs.

Maybe this was the plan all along since the guy was hired. Haslam needed some one who could push the renovation package through, get the naming rights deals in place, etc. He did that. Now that that is done, time for him to move on to his next gig.

I saw he was still going to linger in the background as a consultant through the season. That is a 9 month severance package. I don't know what the guy makes, but I'd take 9 months of his compensation package. That doesn't sound like a "bad terms" severance package to me.

So, this is completely fabricated?

Quote:

In the end, Sashi Brown and Alec Scheiner won out: Browns will be more analytical

None of us have any idea how the Browns’ radical new approach is going to work.

The franchise’s history since 1999, and its track record under Jimmy Haslam’s watch, indicates we shouldn’t get our hopes up.

But we’re willing to give Sashi Brown and Paul DePodesta the benefit of the doubt, even if the football traditionalists are not.

One thing that is much more of a definite in all of this is the Browns’ latest overhaul is a victory for team president Alec Scheiner and Brown, the new vice president of football operations. Two former Browns employees — Kevin Jones and Vic Carucci — believe Scheiner and Brown pushed for the Browns to use analytics more, but were often rebuffed by former general manager Ray Farmer and the coaches.

Jones, who left the Browns in October, said, from his understanding, Farmer and former head coach Mike Pettine resisted the ideas of Brown and Scheiner.

“Ray Farmer wanted to be the smartest person in the room and wanted everyone to know that,” Jones said. “I don’t see that from Sashi.”

Carucci, who was the Browns’ senior editor and “Cleveland Browns Daily” co-host until he left to be a Bills beat writer for The Buffalo News in September 2014, said former Browns CEO Joe Banner and Scheiner hoped that the organization they set up would “heavily” use analytics on the football side.

“How much it actually got used in football is unknown to me,” Carucci said. “My impression was it wasn’t used heavily, and the other impression I had was there was resistance to it from the football people.”

Carucci said Farmer, Pettine and personnel chief Bill Kuharich have a “more traditional approach to personnel evaluation.” (To be fair, that description could probably be applied to the vast majority of the NFL.)

Carucci believes the group’s resistance to analytics being used in football decisions caused friction in the front office.

“I would think it’s fair to say Alec wasn’t happy about that,” Carucci said. “He wanted to see more use of it. I think he sees himself as someone with revolutionary ideas about how to have football success. This is going to, I think, finally give him direct impact of what happens on the field. I don’t think it was enough for him to just be the business guy and just putting together all of the great (business) deals that he did.”

Jones said his impression while working for the Browns was that Scheiner was more involved in personnel decisions than Brown was.

That obviously has changed with Brown, the team’s former senior vice president and general counsel, in charge of the 53-player roster. The role of Scheiner, from what the Browns have told us, hasn’t changed. He’s the leader on the business side.

And while Brown’s football acumen is as questionable as many of Farmer’s draft choices, what isn’t being debated is Brown’s reputation — at team headquarters and in league circles.

“Sashi, the way he carries himself, he is a boss, but a friendly, approachable boss,” Jones said. “Very business like. I really never heard anyone say a bad thing about Sashi. He’s well-respected by everyone around the building. Even the old coaches there. I don’t seem him being a person who creates divide.”

Carucci concurs.

“I think very highly of him,” he said of Brown. “First, he’s a terrific person, and I think he’s also an extremely bright guy and highly regarded and highly respected in football circles as an executive. I know he embraces analytics as much as anybody in the NFL or even sports can, and obviously in this new role he has an opportunity to bring that to the Browns in a pretty big way.”

But will it lead to success?

“Sashi and Alec are really close,” Jones said. “They work well together. While this is unconventional and I would lean against it working, I applaud them for trying this.”

Carucci, like the rest of us, is eager to see the results.

“I’m as curious as anyone,” he said. “And when people get over the shock — ‘Oh my God, what are they doing?’ — you start warming up to this could be really cool. This could be something.

“When you’re the Browns and you just tried everything to make the football work and it hasn’t, why not? Maybe this will work, and in the meantime, they’re going to grab a lot of attention.”

Oh, and here is a quote from Haslam himself. Is this made-up, too?

Quote:
“Alec is in charge of the business side of the franchise,” Haslam said. “I think he’s one of the top guys in pro sports. We feel very fortunate to have him on our side. Also he’s in charge of our community efforts. That’s his main job with us. But as part of my learning curve — and I do this in our regular business — a lot of the things we do rather than have two smart people in the room, we’ll have four or five smart people in the room when we go to make decisions and set strategy.

“Alec and [executive vice president/general counsel Sashi Brown] participate in that. They’ll quickly say they’re not football guys, but they’ve been in the league 10 or 12 years at different franchises. They’ve seen what those franchises do, good and bad, and they’re very good, smart, strategic thinkers who I’m proud to have on our team and who add value. The business and football side get along well here despite what’s been depicted.”

I occasionally am reminded of what a mess the Browns are while watching other sporting events.

We all know that sport stations run that annoying ticker at the bottom of the screen. I'll see information scroll across, [these are all different dates, just examples to help paint a picture] such as Golden State visits the White House......Lillard scores 51 points in Blazers win.....Broncos franchise Von Miller..........Speith shoots 7 under par to capture another victory.......

And then there is the inevitable news regarding the Browns: ....Browns fire Pettine and Farmer........Manziel reportedly seen in Vegas before Sunday's game.........Scheiner steeping down as Browns Team President..........Haslam being investigated for fraud............Armonty Byrant suspended for four games...........Josh Gordon applying for reinstatement from suspension............Alex Mack opting out of contract........Browns to move training camp to Columbus with tax payers money.........Johnny Manziel to be dumped by Browns........

I mean......seriously......how can one freaking team by so dysfunctional?

But hey........."we're headed in the right direction" and "other GMs are worried about the Brown's plan." notallthere

I think that part about Scheiner wanting to be more involved in what happens on the field is apparently not fabricated. Hense, he's being let go.

I also think that the acceptance of any new changes depends greatly on how it's presented. In this case, how it was presented to the football people.

DePodesta, who is obviously the main man in the discussion about analytics, seems always to steer the conversation away from numbers and more toward strategy and decision making processes.

I think a lot of the talk about analytics is overblown. The talk, however, about non-football people making football decisions is not.

I think the success, or lack of it, going forward will have a lot more to do with how these non-football people do their jobs than it will over the numbers of the analytics.

To me, analytics are like stats, they are simply facts. They've been around football from the beginning. The only difference now is through the use of computers you can keep track of so many more facts and run many more comparisons of those facts. How one uses those facts in decision making can have a great impact. Analytics doesn't make decisions, people do.

I'm always on the side of football people making football decisions. They can use analytics as a tool giving it whatever weight they do in the process. I think the more dangerous method is to have non-football people making football decisions. If they depend too much on analytics as a tool, to try and make up for their lack of football knowledge, and give it an inordinate amount of weight it could be disastrous.

All I can do is wait it out. I believe I'll know a lot when I see who that #2 pick is. If they go one direction I'll be more at ease. If they go another I'll be on edge.

Your talking about Kevin Jones here. A guy who listed this as his accomplishments while in Cleveland

● Balanced the fine line of protecting the best interests of the Browns while also building a strong following.

● Article traffic increased on ClevelandBrowns.com from 4 million in 2013, to 8 million in 2014

Unique Skills
● Built my online following knowing how and when to use social media: Twitter, Vine, Facebook and GIFs.

● Able to take the temperature of a fan base by scouring Twitter, and in turn, decide which articles or radio segments make the most sense and will draw the most clicks.

A guy that was all about self promotion, and making himself look good. Not about the truth. You mean THAT Kevin Jones?

Care to share on that direction? If they go QB, I doubt it will be the BPA. Who's the best pass rushing LB besides Bosa, and I don't count Spence because of his red flags.

1st you can't buy what's not for sale. 2nd Jimmy made this quote before "I am 1,000 percent a Steelers fan." Do you want to buy that? lol

Jimmy is selling his product. You will not hear the truth coming out of his mouth all the time, and you know that.

BTW if you do want to buy into what Jimmy says see if he will throw in some rebates if you buy it in bulk. wink

I don't know why being a women is relevant to all this and why you felt to include gender. You called out Rocket and CHS for allegedly being racist. This post smells of the same things you called then out for.

Shame on you.

I view Alec Scheiner as "no big loss" for the franchise.

The front office had too many individuals trying to lead. Obviously Scheiner was not content to run just the business side and is searching for more say in how the Browns operate.

The guy Haslam picked to be in charge is Sashi, so Scheinter does not "fit in" on the football side now. Then there are the rumors concerning conduct of some within the organization..but we have no proof that Scheiner is involved in that in any way.

I believe Scheiner wants to be a GM, but the Browns have no room for him now that Haslam named Sashi to run the franchise.

Just a comment about Sashi and analytics...Sashi can't run the football side without input from those running the football side. Sashi will have to satisfy Hue Jackson and use analytics in a way that makes sense with what Hue is trying to accomplish.

Sashi must find that balance where Hue and his coaching staff, accept the use of analytics where it makes sense to everyone.

If Sashi can't find that balance in the use of analytics, Sashi and Hue will be fighting a lot and that could lead to another power struggle.

Key for me in all of this...

as our new structure would limit the opportunity for his leadership.

We have guys now implanted that do what Alec was doing. He became obsolete and this was a very polite FIRING.

I have no clue on sex harras charges.... I don't think it needed that for the means to see this End.

Wow, I'm having such a hard time with this. I mean, YOU quoting HASLAM. Using it as proof of something when in fact you have shown complete contempt for the man.

So, what your saying is, as long as it suits our purpose, haslams words are fine LOL

I think it's time you run for office Vers.. You'd fit right in.

It's also funny that people who claim to believe in Haslam and what he says are so quick to avoid the fact he said that.

Sometimes life is a two way street.

He has no experience in football operations either ..... but he was brought in to examine processes and find best practices. I would think that there could be some overlap.

the guy organized a press conference to announce the new Browns logo lol I mean seriously shoulda fired his ass for that one. Then you hear all the frat house stuff. He came from the Cowboys so not surprising.

Part of the problem not part of the solution.

I have to say that everyone is searching for a reason to be positive. Much like you, I just don't see it. I don't really take issue with the coaching hires. While somewhat unproven Hue is, I don't really have cause to be negative about him.

But if people actually take for granted that DePodesta can transition smoothly from baseball to football, they are certainly reaching to come to such a conclusion. There's a world of difference between the two and making that transition will be much more difficult than some seem to consider. Such a move is unprecedented and an experiment at best.

Secondly, Haslam has failed to find people to build anything on the football side using tradition methods. So why would people possibly take it on faith that a new method will be more productive?

I'm not saying it can't be or won't be, but this would be a time to proceed with caution about your expectations at the very least. This group will have to show me something before I can possibly endorse this new endeavor.

It is funny how when you questioned Kevin Jones, because he was a paid shill at the time, people came out of the woodwork in his support. Now that he is away from the Browns and can give an honest and independent opinion, people blast you for using his comments.

Oh what a tangled web we weave! lol

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

j/c...

Personally, I believe Dee is cleaning house and the sexual harassment claims were the nail in the coffin. Allowing Scheiner to "step down" saves both parties from messy lawsuits. This is done in Corporate America on a daily basis when firing high level executives.

Joe Lull indeed feels vindicated on this one.

FWIW, it appears Scheiner's ousting may have been in the works for awhile, if what Grossi reported a couple months back is true.

That's a good point. Someone had to get fired for the "new" uniform fiasco.

OK....I guess I am missing something, but I really have no clue as to why you are pointing to me?
