Grossi writes and has to pose as the Browns expert as he writes for ESPN - although this is a new regime and he might get some cooperation. I don't think he has much more info then we do on this board - it will take time to rebuild the bridges he burnt.
jmho. Notice he starts with: it doesn't appear to keep....then ends with but it still can happen late.
Ok thanks for actually telling us something Grossi...lol smh

That's fair.
There are just a couple other tweets floating around in the Browns internet space referring to 'in order to keep your FA, have continuity' and the like. It's not definite, but is suggestive of what is going on. There is some insider info also not painting a very good picture of what is playing out so far.
It's all information to dissect. We'll see what happens shortly.

The #Dolphins reportedly close to signing Mario Williams could mean Cameron Wake is on his way out; would clear $8.4M. https://twitter.com/spotrac/status/707231114193203201

#Raiders deal for G Kelechi Osemele will make him one of the 5 highest paid OL — including tackles — in NFL. More than $11M per year. https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/707233440035426305Great. This just exploded the OL market. Thanks, Oakland.

Oakland isn't setting any precedent here. People seem to lose sight of the fact that with the new rookie salary cap that veterans will make much more. It's a shifting of the wealth to players that have actually earned big contracts from their play in the league instead of huge rookie deals. So if you want to thank something, thank the rookie salary structure. Teams always overpay in the FA market and with an increase in the salary cap and the new rookie deal, this is a direct result.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Yeah, that signing hurts us and our goals. Kind of thinking we may be finding replacements for both Mack and Mitchell and optimism is fading.

The offensive line was always going to get exploded. Teams have an average of $25 million in cap space and the Raiders need to reach the spending floor this off-season.

Another reason why it's pointless to invest so heavily on the offensive line. When you have 5 strong players, you're going to be paying 5 heavy contracts.

youth and building through the draft are the right We'll see what happens, but if the reports are true, the Browns are going to lose some of their home-grown, fairly-young, and better players and will replace them w/guys who aren't as good. That sounds identical to what we did the last couple of years. While losing Mack/Gipson/Schwartz/Benjamin is unquestionably bad, I would lay most of the blame on Farmer. Gipson and Benjamin could have been signed to extensions at some point in the past year. Mack and Schwartz were always going to make it to the open market to try and get the most money possible.

I wonder if we go after Doug Martin or not. Doubt it. The analytical community really devalues the running back position. I would be shocked if we paid any significant amount for a running back.

I didn't lose sight of anything. I am well aware that veterans will earn more and I'm happy about that. My point is, the top paid guard before this contract, annually, was $8MM. It just increased significantly (almost 50%) if the numbers are correct. I understand each year FA will eventually become the top paid at their position. I just think this is a huge leap from one year to the next. I also think this effects Mack on Schwartz and what they end up getting, either here or elsewhere.

Joe Barksdale, who is just about average, got four years and $22 million with $10 million guaranteed. That is a little less than I was expecting. https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/707239112231817216

Williams was pretty bad last year. They must be getting him for less than Wake's $8.4 million. Crazy that Cameron Wake will be 34 for the 2016 season.

In addition, especially if we're on deck of losing two of our stater o-linemen - it's pointless to bring in a premier back to run behind a line that can't generate any openings. Can't expect your back to be able to break tackles in the backfield all the time, or if you were Crow last year, never.

The more I look at teams cap space & the associated interest in Mack & Schwartz, the more I think teams are going to reconsider their position in paying them the cash their shooting for. Mack at 30, 10 million per - Atlanta, taking a real hard look at 50 M contract - Seattle, resigning a center - Jacksonville, has the cash, but 2 yrs later, why not get a good center in the draft for a fraction of the cost. Plus their a few yrs away. - There might be others but...That is a big nut for a 30 yr old lineman. Schwartz, more realistic, but still.... - Osemele is out, Raiders - Vikings are out, Loadholt, restructure & Cummings - Again Atlanta, but their back to spending 50 M - Giants, YOU CUT MY BROTHER!!, you never know. - Plus Schwartz hasn't shown any type position versatility that other signings have. They are both shooting for the moon & options could be slowly drying up. Other KEY free agent possibilities may influence where interested teams want to spend their big dollars. We'll see tomorrow, but these guys may not be the low hanging fruit their agents think they are. At least not for that kind of cash.

j/c: For Kelechi Osemele and the #Raiders, the deal they've agreed to in principle will pay him an $11.7M per year base with a max value of $12M. https://twitter.com/Rand_Getlin/status/707254419130179584

I thought players/agents and teams weren't allowed to "come to an agreement" during this period. That's crazy money for a GUARD and sure makes me wish we had offered Mack and Schwartz $9 million per each a couple weeks ago.

Pleaseeee, no. I understand people not liking Jones's past, but he seems to have really turned things around. Wasn't it last season where he ripped off Amaris Coopers helmet and slammed his face into the ground? Didn't he hit a ref or something too and got fined? Those are just two recent events, I'm sure if I Googled - there would be more. I don't see how he turned things around. May have tamed things down, but he's still uncontrollable imo. Again, no thanks. I'll take Tramon over him any minute of the day.

I'd like to have some attitude on the D side of the ball. I'll take a 15 yard penalty every couple weeks and some fines as long as the D is aggressive.

Oh no doubt. But there's a difference between being aggressive and being plain ole fashioned stupid. IMO, just me, but Pac Man falls into that stupid mistakes category.

If this happens..if the Harvard boys fail to keep any of the Browns top 4 free agents...Sashi Brown, Haslam and his new front office scheme will be considered "failures".
This could turn out to be another one of Haslam's terrible ideas and the Browns big brain management could become the joke of the NFL.
JMHO, but the Browns front office needs to get off to a good start and if they don't, it could set the tone for the entire season.
If they allow there own free agent players to leave then spend BIG to bring in someone elses free agents..it will be the same old story...too cheap to sign our own, but no problem paying big bucks to sign another team's free agents.

I believe this encapsulates the growing theme about the Osemele contract.. The Kelechi Osemele deal — 5 years, $60M max — is wild. Highest paid guard in NFL history. Crazy $$. #Raiders beef up that line. https://twitter.com/RapSheetAnd then there is this: In terms of offensive tackles, Kelechi Osemele’s reported $11.7M AAV deal w/ the #Raiders currently ranks him 4th. http://bit.ly/1O0v2iD https://twitter.com/spotrac/status/707263075330744320

It seems like Mack and Schwartz were getting to the market no matter what. They have an offer from us in their back pocket and if they get something better they take it. We just have to hope that they give us the chance to match it.

Love what the Jaga are doing instead of sitting on their asses every free agency period. They're a team with promise and a QB.

In other news: Tamba Hali re-signed with the Chiefs. https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/707267879750733824Also a refresher because we are going to run into a lot of this in the coming days: Re-sign - "Tamba Hali re-signed with the Chiefs." Resign - "The president of the company resigned because he was accused of sexual harassment."

Mac, they can only make offers. They can't hold a gun to Macks head or Schwartz's head to make them accept. I'm pretty sure that if they offered either Mack or Schwartz 15 mill a year they'd accept. But then folks on here would call the Browns fools.. If they make them fair offers and the players don't accept, then that's that. move on. But to consider them failures for that, that might be a stretch. ON the other hand, offering short money and getting beat out, that I think I'd consider a failure.
