I'm not asking for a silk purse. But a sow's ear is what we're dealing with now. That's not the right environment for a QB.

I understand that thought process and the hesitancy to take a QB at 2.

There are 2 legit guys available. And I don't give a squat what Mayock, Gruden or Cosell think about either. I care about what Jackson and Saunders think about the 2.

Many folks throw this statement around frequently. "Typical Browns".

Here's a typical Browns move. DON'T take a legit QB at 2 because we lost Mack and Schwartz in FA and wait until 2017 to find the QB. I see us at 3-12 going into the last game and win against a resting players playoff team. Finish 4-12 and just out of reach for our QB in the 2017 draft. Sound familiar?

As SpiritBro says. TAKE THE DAMN QB AND MOVE ON.

It's the single most difficult position on any team to stabilize. JUST DO IT! While we have a legit chance too.

Not only that how many players are we not going to sign cause we don't have a QB. The #1 reason Benjamin went to SD was cause they had a QB. pure and simple.

QB...you can be an up and comer. No QB...just a nomad wondering the desert (hopefully that isn't a banana split...lol laugh )

Well I read it in a much more recent article written by Pluto...that is where I got my info.

I know you know more than anyone here and its hilarious to you if somebody states something.

Or possibly you are not as educated on the subject as you project. For a guy who lives on the boards and carouse the internet about Browns info. Surprised you didn't read that or possibly you think Pluto fabricated it?

jmho & tired of you attitude.

Sure. The fact they paid him #2 money and he's no more than a slot guy had nothing to do with it. In fact, he's giving all his money to charity and has taken a vow of poverty..... lmao

There are millions of reasons he moved to SD. Rivers isn't one of them. He may SAY that is the reason, but only the naive would believe that.

If Wentz is gone and I can't trade down, I'm probably picking Ramsey... After breaking lots of stuff.

Not a big Goff fan. I can't picture him as the face of the Browns, at least not in a good way. Why? I'd probably have to find a psychoanalyst to figure that out.

Yup ...I sure hope we aren't drafting a QB in the first or second rounds...maybe it's just me but would rather go BPA then pick one up when the value is there. And to me no QB in this draft is a top 10 or even top 20 pick.

I stumbled across an article this evening that might reveal how some prospects are valued by league insiders in comparison to how the media, and by extension, the average fan may under value those prospects.

Cardale Jones Tops Lists of Underataed

Three of the more under valued are BIG 10 players. For your consideration...

If the Browns sign RG3, I could see Jones being a 3rd round target to develop behind him. I think there would be less pressure to rush him into the lineup than Wentz or Goff.

Thanks, interesting read.

I've been thinking more and more about Cardale lately. I think someone takes a shot on him in the third. He has better physical gifts than any qb in this class. The Buckeye's offense is not really friendly for a passing qb.

Cardale might be a good choice for the Browns, especially if they sign RGIII.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Yeah, I can see both sides. He has tools, but at this point he seems kind of like a lottery ticket. I think he'll have fewer distractions and a better chance of success if he doesn't end up back in Cleveland. I could see him being groomed behind Rodgers in Green Bay, and think that would be a good place for him.

watch the ball placement in his videos against Maryland and Virginia Tech this year on draftbreakdown.com . Honestly, it's pretty amazing. I think putting him in a pocket passing offense would make him much more effective. Forcing him into that running stuff just isn't a great use of his abilities in my opinion. They was he can hang in there as the play develops and gets the ball out just before taking the hit is tops in the class, even better than Goff in my opinion.

He'll probably get drafted by Pittsburgh and lead them to multiple Super Bowls after Roethlisburger literally falls apart in a few season..

Good point.

My biggest issue w/him is how long it takes him to process things.

But man, he has the tools. He would certainly be worth a shot in the 4th. Maybe even in the 3rd. Which round do you think he'll go in? I thought people were talking 5th earlier, but that is probably not going to happen. What do you think?

Its weird. People talk about QBs getting over drafted all the time..

But then you constantly see guys just fall in the draft and disappear forever..

Bryce Petty was talked about as a possible first rounder.. went in like the 4th, and is just sitting there in NYJ wondering if he's still ganna be Fitzpatricks backup..

Cardale may need to sit the bench longer to learn, but the payoff is huge if you can coach him up.

He has the tools to be elite in a vertical offense. He should also be very durable given his size and should be able to extend plays when needed.

regarding Cardale Jones.

Does he have football smarts. Was he on a Gooch or Gruden chalk board yet?

He left school pretty early for not playing which some how tells me he is not a student? Was he going to fail?

Again I don't know NADA about the kid. I don't like people telling me that they are smart...really I am.

Just those type of QBs are the ones who don't make it.

Manziel had potential smart but for the most part didn't use it. Leinart - for some reason I don't think he wanted to be a Football Player. Young had the tools just not the smarts to carry out a game plan. Russell did absolutely nothing to make himself an NFL QB...how does Jones stand in that department. Is he determined? Does he have a rep of working hard?

All I know is the kid was super raw...OSU was stuck in a hard place and had to start him and he shocked everyone.

Then a new season came and he just was not working out they decided to make a switch. Its not like he got beat out by a great QB talent that healed. I was actually shocked when I heard he was applying for the draft. I figured as a Junior (red shirt I believe) he would get the start and show all what he can be?

One thing that might happen...if we do not take QB and neither does the Cowboys...this might drop the entire class.

The other thing that might happen is we think Wentz will be a Super star and regardless if we sign RG3 or not we take him. Wentz is not the "RISK" some are portraying him as. He played with pressure, he had to make throws in many tight windows not often seen by College QBs as the WRs are ahead of the CBs in Division 1A. Signing an RG3 give logic to sitting the High Draft pick and having him learn correctly.

I believe we also would have the luxury to eliminate anyone from jumping to #1 and take Wentz from our grasp.

jmho...but we can win right away and get our LONG TERM Franchise QB...and as I have always said if RG3 is proving to be a viable QB we can get a pretty penny in return of our meager investment.

It would be foolish to claim that Jones does not have flaws. He must improve his accuracy, he has to learn not to lock in on early targets in his progression, he has to display more touch and variance on the speed of throws underneath and he can't over rely on his arm talent. I'm certain there are other subtleties that are not as obvious that he'll need to master.

What I do not hold against him is his intelligence or his number of starts. What he displayed in preparation for the championship run was noteworthy. It isn't apples to apples for NFL game preparation from week to week but it does show you that he can get ready AND be an integral part of the offense in a compressed time period against high stakes opponents presneting different defensive strengths.

Yes, he struggled this season if by that you mean he did not display and exponential leap from the national championship run of the year before. The Ohio State offense is not a scheme that favors Jones' strengths. It is too dependent on the read option. He also made throws that receivers should have completed but did not. His most trusted vertical option was drafted by the Jets. Tom Herman, the OC took his highly affective offense to the University of Houston, he was replaced by a two headed OC tandem. Think about that for a moment...

I think he confidence may have been affected by Barrett right behind him. Also, Barrett didn't look like the same efficient decision maker he had been when he eventually replaced Jones. Some of you will think these are excuses, that's fine. Hopefully the team will investigate Jones thoroughly because his talent is to enticing to ignore.

Got it...thank you for educated me.
As stated I am pretty ignorant about the kid - didn't know that about a new Offense. Question is how hot are others on him. Cause I think he's a 5th rounder but usually QB go sooner than later.

Again all depends what we do at two...if we do not sign RG3 I can see taking a guy at #2 and then 4th or 5th round taking Jones.

Will still like to hear more from those who know about him more than I.

I like to be educated more than being right wink

I should have used the "J/C". By that I just mean everything I wrote wasn't in direct response to you.

The part I wrote about his football intelligence was intended to inform you or others about my perception of his football cognition. To be objective I do understand that another dimension of that intelligence is the ability to process information on the go. I agree he can get better in that area. This is something I would hope Hue Jackson can develop given his reputation.

In terms of returning to school, for another year, I don't see any advantage for him to do that. That's what this past season was all about. Nothing will change there. His skill set, although significant, is not the best fit for what Ohio State does.

I stated in an earlier post that I think a starter needs to be in front of him. Actually I would be comfortable with two guys ahead of him at the start of his career. That's one aspect of not going early that should help him. The guys we can take to give the team immediate impact is the other advantage the team would realize by selecting him. He'll need time to get ready but the tools are there to work with.

'Hue Jackson raves about Jared Goff and tells Robert Griffin III to be ready to compete with a top pick'

http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ss..._social_feature

By Mary Kay Cabot, Cleveland.com on March 22, 2016 at 12:38 PM, updated March 22, 2016 at 5:03 PM

BOCA RATON, Fla. --- Browns coach Hue Jackson raved about Cal quarterback Jared Goff at the AFC coaches breakfast here and told Robert Griffin III that he might have to compete with a high draft pick if they sign him.

Jackson stressed that if the Browns sign Griffin III, it won't preclude them from drafting a quarterback at No. 2, and they're strongly considering Goff and North Dakota State's Carson Wentz at that spot.

He had more to say about Goff than Wentz, probably because he just attended Goff's Pro Day Friday at Cal, and has recently spent private time with Goff and his family. He'll attend Wentz Pro Day at North Dakota State on Thursday.

"The guy threw the ball tremendously,'' said Jackson, a former Cal assistant and finalist for their head coach job in 2011. "He can make all the throws. For a big guy, he's more athletic than people think. He has quick feet. He obviously has a quick release. What I've seen on videotape to go along with the workout is he has tremendous poise in the pocket. He's a young man that can keep his eyes downfield when people are bearing at him and, to me, that's an unbelievable asset. Because a lot of people can't do that."

Goff also passed one of Jackson's biggest criteria for a quarterback: guts.

"His back foot, he digs it in the ground to throw the ball, where some people have a soft back foot because they're afraid to get hit,'' he said. "He's not like that. He likes to play. The guy's a gym rat. He comes early and stays late. He's been in a situation before where he had to be a part of what I call a reboot, not a rebuild as everyone wants to call it – so he has that, and that part of it I like about him. And he's a Cal Golden Bear."

He acknowledged that he's spent a lot of extra time with Goff, who turned the program around from 1-11 as a freshman to 8-5 last year, including a bowl win over Air Force.

"I've spent quite a bit of private time with him,'' he said. "I won't say when, but I have. I've gotten to know him and his family very well. We're going to do everything that we can to find out about these young men because it's a big decision as you know. This is not something where 'OK, give me that one.' We have to get this right."

He said he's not worried about Griffin III's reaction if they draft Goff or Wentz at No. 2.

"I have told RG3, whatever we decide to do is what we do,'' he said. "If it did (happen), to me, he would have to compete and I don't ever worry about that. The cream always rises to the top, and if a guy is afraid of competition, then you have the wrong guy anyway. We'll be fine regardless of how it goes, whether it goes that way and we draft somebody else or it doesn't go that way and we end up taking two quarterbacks. You never know.''

He stressed that his interest in Griffin III doesn't mean that Goff and Wentz aren't ready or aren't good enough.

"When you're talk about Robert, you're talking about a young man who was (NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year and a Pro Bowler) at one time,'' he said. "There's been success there. So we'd be remiss if we said we're not going to look at everybody and see how it fits with us. We know there's some young talented passers that are coming up, and we've all seen young players start to play in this league at an early age, a la Joe Flacco, and they can play. But your team has to be able to receive them and handle them. There's a lot of factors that go into all the things we're trying to decide."

Likewise, he said he's not necessarily inclined to start a veteran because the Browns are in rebuild mode, or what he prefers to call reboot mode.

"Yes and no, because you want to know the rest of your team as fast as you can,'' he said. "One thing about me, if a guy's not ready to play I'm not putting him out there. I don't think you can do that. You hurt that position. We've all seen it in the National Football League if he doesn't have the right support cast that it's not fair to the player, so as an organization, we would never do that.

"But if a guy is ready to play and the pieces around him are right, we're going to play him.''

Jackson said Goff handled it well when offensive assistant Pep Hamilton doused the ball with water after the scripted throws at his Pro Day and made him throw a wet ball. He completed all of the throws, except one that was dropped.

"Was he surprised? I'm sure he was,'' Jackson said. "I'm sure he never had that happen. But that's part of it. We're not going to go there and just do the normal, normal because he's great at the normal. And he was great at the abnormal, so that's the whole thing. You've got throw a couple of things in there they're not expecting and see how they handle it. And he did well.''

He said he won't add water to all of the Pro Days or private workouts.

"It all depends on where a guy plays and what his environment is,'' he said, adding that he laughed about Goff's hand size increasing from 9 inches at the NFL Combine to 9 1/8 at his Pro Day.

"I'm sorry for starting that firestorm way back when,'' he said. "Hand size is important. I don't want to run away from that. But it's not the only characteristic that we look for. We play in the AFC North, so you have to have some hands, but you also have to be able to throw it too.''

He said he's looking forward to learning more about Wentz this week. He met with him at the Senior Bowl, but will go more in-depth.

"I know he's a young man who comes from a small school,'' he said. "He has great stature, great ability, but again, until you spend some time with the person, do you know? But he looks the part. He has all the attributes that you look for.''

He re-iterated that Wentz' level of competition at an FCS school is not a deterrent.

"We drafted Joe Flacco (when Jackson was in Baltimore) and he played at a small school,'' he said. "So it's not about that. It's can the guy play? There's a lot of players from small schools that are playing well in the NFL. It's about creating an environment playing great and I think we can do that.''

He said he wasn't sure yet if he'll attend the Pro Day of Memphis' Paxton Lynch or ask for private workouts.

"If I don't see what I think I need to see, then we'll ask for more,'' he said.

But man, he has the tools. He would certainly be worth a shot in the 4th. Maybe even in the 3rd. Which round do you think he'll go in? I thought people were talking 5th earlier, but that is probably not going to happen. What do you think?

I think he will go somewhere between 45-83. Just my hunch.

Griffin is worth signing. There is little risk involved. He has shown talent and flaws. At the same time he is still young.

Hue has a good reputation working with quarterbacks. Why not bring Griffin here? He is for sure worth a look see.

At the same time Wentz would provide an investment in the future and eventually push Griffin. I do not believe that Hue would see the need for McCown as a mentor. He would be the mentor along with Saunders and Pep Hamilton. McCown would become expendable.

As far as Cardale I just don't see the Browns going in that direction.

In the end it looks like Griffin and either Goff or Wentz.

The dark horse in Conner Cook at pick 32.

You really can't understand the love? saywhat

No I don't. And I'm a Buckeye fan.

He was a great three game flash in the pan.

The next year when given the starting position he flopped like Tuna on the boat. He has a strong arm, but so do a lot of guys. Outside of that, I saw nothing and he lost his job to someone not even considered in the draft by many.

With all this RG3 and Cardale talk, I think a lot of posters have lost their ever loving minds!

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
