OK, thanks. Was going off what I had read online.

Either way, it's clear that Goodell is not interested in reinstating Gordon. It has been like 70 days since he submitted the paperwork to be reinstated.

My gut wink tells me they won't announce anything until Draft time. And that he WILL be reinstated.

3rd and 20 posted this in the Gordon thread. It's interesting.

Browns not counting on Josh Gordon in 2016; NFL can rule on reinstatement 'when appropriate'

http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2016/03/browns_josh_gordon_2016.html#incart_2box

By Mary Kay Cabot, Cleveland.com on March 21, 2016 at 12:18 PM, updated March 21, 2016 at 1:27 PM

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- The NFL is now clarifying that it can rule on Josh Gordon's reinstatement "when appropriate,'' and the Browns aren't counting on him for 2016.

First, he has to be reinstated, which is no sure thing. Then, they have to see where his head is at.

They know where his body has been -- in the same vicinity as Johnny Manziel's a lot lately, but they're claiming that's not an issue at this point.

And now, the NFL is making it clear that the 60-day timeframe to rule on Gordon's reinstatement from his indefinite drug ban is a guideline and not written in stone.

He applied for reinstatement around 60 days ago, and the policy states that "all individuals involved in the process will take steps to enable the commissioner to render a decision within 60 days of the receipt of the application.''

But an NFL spokesman, answering in general terms, said, "there is no requirement that a reinstatement decision be made in 60 days. We endeavor to develop the necessary information to make a decision in that timeframe, but the actual decisions are made when appropriate.''

One thing is clear: The Browns don't even like talking about Gordon. During a breakfast meeting here at the NFL Annual Meeting with Executive Vice President Sashi Brown, Chief Strategy Officer Paul DePodesta, coach Hue Jackson and four members of the Browns media covering the meetings, Brown grew weary of answering Gordon questions.

"I would just say probably enough Josh chatter,'' Brown said. "I know he's intriguing but really for us, we're focused on the guys that are on our roster and if Josh comes back, great, and if he doesn't, we're ready.''

Coach Hue Jackson admitted that he's proceeding as though he won't have Gordon, who could be reinstated any day now -- or not.

"I always learned something a long time ago -- you never worry about something you never had,'' Jackson said. "I've never had any contact with him, so I'm going to plan on what's in our building now and go from there.''

Asked how they'd know they could trust Gordon after he's been suspended 27 of his last 32 games, Brown said: "I don't think it will be about words with Josh. It will be about action.''

The Browns haven't been given any indication when they'll hear something, but Brown said "you would think it would be fairly soon, but the process is not something that we have a lot of insight into. ...So we're holding tight and if something positive comes out great; if not we'll prepare for that too.''

Brown seems to have backed off some from his stance at the NFL Combine last month, when he was optimistic Gordon would be reinstated and welcomed back into the fold.

"Everything that we knew at that point, things were moving forward,'' he said. "We don't have a lot of communication back and forth. There's no, 'This is how it's going,' or regular updates. We don't have a lot of information on it.''

Brown was asked about Gordon's sometimes cryptic Twitter account, which contains mixed messages about whether or not he wants to be back here.

"I'm not going to comment on Josh's Twitter,'' Brown said. "But Ron Brewer (player engagement manager) has been in touch with Josh. He's working out in L.A.. Beyond that, I'm not going to comment.''

Kidded Jackson, "I've got to get on Twitter more. I'm learning things.''

If Gordon is reinstated, he'll resume his grievance against the Browns for suspending him for the final game of 2014, which cost him an accrued season and postponed his unrestricted free agency by a year. That could translate into millions of dollars, and it could be a prolonged battle with the Browns.

"Josh is under contract with us for another couple years,'' Brown said. "Any time we've got a player that's been suspended for that amount of time and had some of the challenges Josh has had thus far in his career, you need to sit down with him and understand where his head is before you bring him back into your locker room. From everything I've heard, Josh is eager to get back and start playing.''

Brown added that his remarks shouldn't be interpreted one way or the other.

"We had some discussions with his representatives at the combine, so we would sit down with him and see where his head is and go from there,'' he said. "The first step, though, obviously is he's got to be reinstated.''

Brown said it's premature to discuss Gordon's friendship with Manziel because Gordon's not back on the team yet. The two were together recently in Las Vegas and again in Santa Monica, Calif., as chronicled on Twitter and Instagram.

Jackson also declined to comment.

"I don't follow it and I'm not going to comment on Johnny,'' he said. "Johnny's not part of our organization.''

Question is, will Gordon be?

Clear?
Its clear we are not the Steelers...lol

I don't know usually bad news will come quickly...as in a failed test or something...when things are in order it would take a lot longer. You know like rejection letters come quickly. I am also assuming but letting you know why.

jmho but Clear would not be the word I would use.

Goodell last week during the owners meeting that he would take a look at it "next week." Next week is now this week.

I make no presumptions about the outcome of this process. What I'm definite about is that dragging it out once all the information has been submitted to the league in accordance with the policy is harmful to the team. If the NFL has received sufficient information to rule, then do so, because its unfair to the player and the club to drag this out needlessly. The league seems to have a habit of taking what seems to be excessive time to reach decisions on discipline that encumbers the teams involved.

It's almost like Goodell is bad at this particular part of his job.

This is why the NFL is looking to strip Goodell of his disciplinary duties. I think that he never should have had these duties as it is a conflict of interest considering he works for the NFL owners and his decisions have been and could be considered biased. They should have a disciplinary panel that reviews cases and then dispatches the judgments based on the current league rules and the circumstances involved in the incident being overseen.

The player and the team would not be in this position if the player hadn't failed NUMEROUS drug tests. Blaming the NFL is weak.

Furthermore, have any of you considered that perhaps there are some issues regarding Gordon's case? Or, do you automatically believe him when he says he has been clean and done all of the right things?

See, these are all valid points. I can't and won't debate a single one of them because they hold a lot of merit.

But I believe when considering all of that, we must also consider that Goodell stated that he hadn't even looked at the case yet. That it wouldn't be until this week that he even looked at all of the evidence.

I believe that a decision should be made well before the draft. While it's quite true that it's Gordon who created this mess, I would hope we can expect better conduct from the league so as not to purposefully postpone a decision to the point that it leaves one of its own teams in the dark come draft time.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

I am assuming he's been tested throughout his banishment. Assume that cause Blackmon tested positive during his banishment.

He hasn't failed a test during that time??? What else could go wrong...he hasn't been arrested or even stopped for a ticket? If he has no obvious black marks then its about the paper work and a possible drug failure in this wait period. While the positive is not 100% fact till the decision is made. His last several offenses have not been in the disaster mode. where he has passed his drug tests for a long period of time. He hasn't had that need to smoke pot like some others. Just hope the young man has changed his life.

If I got a (?) I am not 100% sure.

Please dispense with the lecture. My posts are thought through before the fingers hit the keys. Is there any proof of which I am unaware that JG has "misbehaved" over the last long while?

I'm with Vers on this one. I hope Gordon is reinstated and and return to being an offensive weapon, but there is nothing about his past behavior that leads me to automatically trust and accept his word.

This is not a situation at all about trust or his word when considering his possible reinstatement.

Did he adhere to the criteria set forth as conditions for reinstatement or did he not?

Has all of the information the league uses to make that determination be submitted? If so, make the decision.

To me, trust and his word only come into play once an objective determination has been made by the NFL. Those are issues for the player and the team to work through.

There are a lot of aspects of being reinstated. It's not only about passing drug tests or not getting a ticket. I researched it earlier and posted it on the board, but there are a lot of things a player has to do in order to be reinstated once they reach the point that Gordon has. Look it up for yourselves.

Gordon has lied in the past. Not sure why you would trust him this time?

"Trust" is perhaps too strong a word. "Benefit of doubt" seemed appropriate...unless he breaks the rules (again).

Also he hasn't been seen running with his old crowd he even tweeted if you are not with me in being clean (not word for word) you are not my friend and will be out of my life.

We never had reports of being at so n so club with a drink. He hung with Manziel a bit while he was on the straight path. We saw him attending and show casing his art work.

Yes, this could all be for show and he was on the side low key still drinking and partying - although he passed the tests.

The Trust issue is after he becomes reinstated will he be more cautious about the rules and not ignore them but follow them to the Tee?

Essentially Weed Smoking Gordon just does not exist anymore. Hasn't really done his weed thing for a long time. But he thought that would be all he had to do...he ignored the rules of the substance abuse policy and got caught w/prescribed cough medicine. Got caught driving over the limit - barely but still over the limit. Weed in his car one time. Attended a party heavy w/Weed smoking and we all know how that sticks to your clothes, hair and I guess lungs. Not mature enough to just turn around and leave. No, his thought was well if I don't smoke weed its ok. He drew a positive of the narrowest return. He didn't care enough about his offenses to know the exact date when the drinking restrictions stopped. He openly drank posting pics on the Internet. Which brings us today.

Gordon is guilty of all those but the Gordon of waking up in the morning and having to do a Joint to start his day - that Gordon does not exist. And most of us know of a pot head who would do just that. Well that was Gordon well for most of 4 years Gordon hasn't partook in smoking Weed. I think he has moved on with that. Now hopefully he has matured enough to take his offenses seriously and to know exactly what is needed from him.

Vers I didn't know a lot of those needed to pass to get reinstated I knew there were social issues. Well I guess that is what takes so long checking all those grey areas.

Pretty sure he will be reinstated (90% sure) its after that happens that he has to earn everyone's trust.

It took me quite awhile to find all the details for what is required to be reinstated. It's on here, somewhere. I don't feel like spending that much time again.

I hate doing this from memory because I might get some things wrong, but it was fairly substantial.

Not only does the player have to pass drug tests and not get arrested, but they have to attend NFL mandated counseling, seek outside counseling, provide updates to the league, .... shoot........I can't remember.

I do remember being somewhat surprised at how in-depth the process was.

Got it...also Gordon has met with Goodell already right?

A lot of rules outside of the obvious, Gordon is not good at looking at the rules in depth. This will be a great test to see if he has matured. I feel better that "IF" he gets reinstated that he kept up with all this protocol. He has made that turn.

Now what happens after he gets his 2nd contract?

Don't know. Hope he gets married and settles down!

Last I knew was Roger was waiting on these "reports" before determining if he wants to physically meet with Josh to discuss reinstatement or not. What these reports are, and the sources of them - I don't know.

If they keep pussy footing around, Josh will miss opening camp. Heck he might already be subject to miss some.

http://www.dawgsbynature.com/2016/4/1/11344298/browns-insight-strategy this article paints a damning picture of Gordon ever playing for Browns again....AND it's correct in stating he's promised since 2010 to live by the straight and narrow, yet 100% of the time failed...no wonder the Commish is SLOW rolling him....our current front office seems to think getting something for him is better than waiting for the next suspension....can't blame them....GO Browns!!!!

The German kid sure has speed and he seems to know what to do with the ball once he has it. Of course you have to be wary of high light films. Well I think he has recorded his speed here. Big project but possibly a good returner as he learns the NFL game.

I'm not sure about returner. I was thinking more jump balls down the sideline and in the red zone.
