A lot of people on here say that. I don't get it.

If I go to a doctor about my back pain and he can't fix the problem, I do not go to a plumber to fix my back. I try another doctor.

Then again the definition of crazy is trying the same thing over and over and expecting different results. We're at least trying something different, success is never guaranteed but since it's not been done at least it has the advantage of being a fresh approach.

True. And we gotta admit that they rocked it during free agency.

My top 8 are:

Jared Goff - QB
Carson Wentz -QB
Ezekiel Elliot - RB
LaQuan Treadwell - WR
DeForest Buckner - DE
Joey Bosa - DE
Myles Jack - LB
Jalen Ramsey - CB

If the Browns end up with one of those 8 I will be really excited.

I love the trade, but if Wentz studs out and the Browns keep trading down and get a bunch of guys and no impact players..........well, let's just say people will lose their jobs.

Also, I think it is easier for these "smart" guys to play w/numbers, make trades, etc than it is for them to identify talent.

I hope they rock it tonight. They could. They might not. We'll see.

After some more thought even though I think he'll be gone and I'm only teasing myself I'm moving Ramsey up.

(1) Bosa
(2) Ramsey
(3)Buckner
(3) Hargreaves-maybe I'm reaching here but positional value and team specific benefit with Haden's health and possible decline and if Haden does return to his old self then the secondary could be really good and allow Horton to really dial up some pressures
(3) Zeke-I'm torn...special talent...
(6) Tunsil/Stanley LT has higher positional value but these guys won't be LT right away AND the OT is depth is better then the CB depth

I guess people exclude analytics from scouting. I think people would be surprised at the type of advance metrics NFL teams use and want. A friend of the family coaches in the NFL and sometimes we talk about DBs. He talked about the merge of analytics with grading film to isolate specific traits/tendencies e.g. assignment tendencies, pursuit angle consistency, tackling type pop, drag, textbook, brings arms etc. They quantify traits/tendencies that used to be anecdotal. So when I think of Depodesta's role its to identify areas where analytics could be applied and prove useful data. That's what I think he means by 'examining processes'

I think analytics can help by pointing out things to 'look at'. I'm not so certain analytics can evaluate a player 'by the numbers'. There are just so many variables that I don't think anyone will ever be able to develop a formula that will include them all. Analytics can point out when a player's numbers really stand-out in a certain aspect prompting closer film study on that aspect. But there is no substitute for watching film.

It's the same reason that stats have limited value as they are only facts, they tell you what happened. They do not tell you 'how' they became facts. It's the 'how' that matters most.

I think analytics can be of great help in making business decisions and tracking the effectiveness of processes. But for player evaluation? Nah.

Just to be clear im not saying analytics can replace scouting. I'm saying analytics can/do already are make scouting better and film study better.

Eli Apple's off the board too. (still on your list)

Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

Pick 32: Trade down?

Designated pass rusher 1 (RDE/ROLB) = Emmanuel Ogbah, Shaq Lawson, Noah Spence, Kevin Dodd

Left cornerback = Rumors have Mac Alexander falling even though I don't believe it.
If pass rushers above are gone I hope some staffer sprints to the podium to turn in the card that say Mackenzie Alexander CB Clemson

Defensive tackle = Jonathan Bullard one of the last of the 5-tech DE/3-tech DL that can provide interior pressure, Kenny Clark, Chris Jones

Tight End = Hunter Henry

Free Safety = Kevin Byard

ILB = Miles Jack

Right tackle = Jason Spriggs, German Ifedi

Wide receiver 1 = Michael Thomas, Tyler Boyd

Man, it hurts to know we could have had my #1 and #3 players after trading down twice with no trade-ups and we'll probably pick neither.

Was just thinking about Ohio State. Jeremy Cash and Noah Spence could have easily been drafted as Buckeyes this year. Just goes to show how lopsided college football is. We had 5 first round picks and will still have a butt load of guys get drafted still.

I want Braxton Millar, but not at #32 of course. Third rounder or where?

Why not try something different.
Dont even field an offense.
Defence only.
Get possession and quick kick it back to the other team.
Wed probably score more points than the current roster..lol

Some other guys would have a better handle on that than me, but probably 3rd or 4th.

I would consider Michael Thomas at 32. The Browns still need a big-bodied red zone target.

I'd try to trade back slightly if possible ... still tons of talent on the board

I'd be fine with Jack, Spence, Thomas, Alexander, Jones, Spriggs ... tons of guys left

Say no to Cook though please

No, he isn't like you.

We have a TON of picks. We need players. There are several guys on the board that could really help the Browns. The value in this draft is though 60.

We have our choice from guys like:

Spence---------maybe the best pass rusher in the draft.

Thomas---------great hands, tall, red-zone WR that we so desperately need.

Dodd----------explosive DE.

Ogbah------------big, strong, fundamentally sound DE.

Ragland------------good run stopper at ILBer.

These guys are good players.

Not counting any further trades, the Browns have the first pick in the 2nd round, 3 picks including the first 2 picks of the 3rd, 3 picks including the first 2 picks of the 4th, and 3 picks including another back-to-back pick in the 5th. We traded away our 6th round pick but still own our 7th rounder. We still have 11 picks, 6 of them in the top 100, or next 69 picks.

I think our next need to address is pass rusher, and there are several very good options at good value right where we are. I don't think we need to trade back any more, unless we can pick up another future pick. I love having 3 sets of back-to-back picks. We can afford to take some risks, like Jaylon Smith, Moritz Boehringer, or Roberto Aguayo. We certainly should be grabbing a QB somewhere in the 3rd/4th rounds. We need a big-bodied WR, LBs (inside and outside), and defensive backfield. I would really like to add baby Gronk as a TE/H-Back.

About Aguayo, I realize K is not normally a mid-round pick, usually a 7th-UDFA concern, but Aguayo is a special talent. Kickers account for more points, year in-year out, than any other position besides QB. As often as we fail to score in the red zone, having a clutch kicker could well be the key to winning close games.

I'd like to see us pick him and see no risk here...3rd or top of the 4th round.

I think you should cross of your #53 overall player. Drafting Wil Fuller would be awkward.

Lots of OLB Pass Rushers out there 8 worthy 2 being Rafland if we want inside and Jack if we want Monster back. 6 OLB with size and skill. Dodd, Spence, Ogbah, Correa, Jaylon Smith, Bullard. If we don't go too far back and are targeting one of those guys and think he will be there...and somebody wants the last QB bad enough to over pay...I can see it happening.

But have the Best of the rest could be the object and we take one of them at #32...Jack, Dodd or Spence if you ask me.

I'm on board with Dodd or Spence. No to Jack, IMO not worth the risk.

ANY of those please. Even if we move down again for another 3rd.

If we could sell Jack or Cook for another high 3rd, I'd snag Thomas and then pound the D in 3.

Agree. But if we could trade down and gain enough ammo (packaging 1 of our 3 third round picks and/or 1 of the 4 fourth round picks) to get multiple picks within that 60? That would be my goal.

BUT IF we stay at pick 32.

Man the highest rated player on my board by a wide margin is sitting right there in Mackenzie Alexander.
He plays a high value position and he's the last of his tier of CB.

Like your list. Maybe not the order. Only difference is Ragland I think 32 is too high for him, I think there are other thumper style ILB that are near his talent later Stephen Daniels, BJ Goodson, Kentrell Brothers...

I pretty much agree w/you about Ragland.

Go to the Impact thread and I answered your question about Alexander there. Not sure if its legit or not, but it's out there.

If you have 5 players with similar grades, why not trade back 3-5 spots if you can?
