Update!
Arch is not awesome. His daughter , however is! I'll go with that. But, she got her athletic ability from someone. Even mom agrees it wasn't from her. Alpha roll since they kept track of that. Again, even mom agrees it wasn't from her. Ability to "go with the flow", even mom agrees it wasn't from her. Ability to take jibes from dad, and give them back - even mom agrees that didn't come from her. Easy goingness? Even mom agrees it didn't come from her. Now, her blue eyes did come from mom. Her blond hair was from both of us. But yes, Sooga is awesome. I don't tell her that though. I simply tell her she's a good kid, and take the dog out, get your homework done, and go to bed.

Now, her blue eyes did come from mom. Whew!!! For a second there I was beginning to think your wife wasn't your daughter's mom.

Daughter is hitting .460 for the year. In the last 7 games (31 at bats), she hasn't struck out OR walked 1 single time. She's really driving the ball. Obviously, not every hit is a "hit", but still, she's putting the ball in play.
But, the best news is some friends from Columbus are coming up tomorrow. We met them in Tenn. about 15 years ago. Just kinda out of the blue they called and said "hey, is Saturday open for you guys?"

55 degrees, no wind, and the sea looks as calm as a piece of glass. Soon getting out of my classroom, putting on some shorts, and I'm headed out to snap some pictures.

So, after watching the softball game (victory. Sooga was 2-4) we headed over to my wife's sister's place. Us 3, the 4 from Columbus, and bro in law, sis in law and 2 nephews.
Beautiful day. Visited, played corn hole, I played basketball with the kids for a bit - then pizza, more corn hole, then cards. It got late and the Columbus crew decided to spend the night.
After wife and I got back from church we headed over to the in laws for breakfast and more talking/reminiscing, planning, and laughing.
Sometimes the simplest things are the best.

In 1981, a pediatrician saved the life of a 3.2-pound premature baby boy by working around the clock to beat the odds & stabilize him. In 2011, the pediatrician was pinned inside a burning vehicle after a car collision, but was saved by the premature baby, who had grown up to become a paramedic. https://www.reddit.com/r/todayilearned/c..._the_life_of_a/

My 10yo daughter threw a 5 inning perfect game today in her early bird tournament. 2nd game in in relief and struck out all 7 batters she faced. And last night vs the #1 team in Ohio in the 10u division she pitched well striking out 10 of the possible 14 outs that were made, losing 5 - 1. 1 bad half inning on her part and some teammates throwing the ball around.
Best thing about her perfect game, I record all her games with my gopro so she will always have that first one.

I just got back from our school's "after prom" thingy. Most schools, around here anyway, have a dinner and a dance somewhere, and then have "after prom" activities at the school in an effort to keep kids out of trouble.
The theme this year was Las Vegas. Myself and 2 other knuckleheads somehow got asked to be the Blue Man group. We did the Drumbone song. Went pretty well. Had fun. Had more fun walking around and posing for pics than I did actually performing, but it went petty well.

Positive things from today, I bought a movie in HDR (High Dynamic Range) which is basically blu-ray on steroids, with a Dolby Atmos soundtrack called Dead Pool. An Anti-Super Hero Super Hero flick. Definitely not your kids super hero movie.
Campy is being kind in describing this one. The vocals were as hilarious as the visuals were stunning in this HDR melee. Even the opening credits were great. Describing the film as "Some Douchbag's Film", starring "Gods Perfect Idiot", "A Hot Chick", "A British Villian", "The Comic Relief", "A Moody Teen" and a "CGI Character".
While it's not cinematically The Philadelphia Story in acting or script, it was a really fun watch none the less and it made my day a positive one.

Positive today: I am a few days into a vacation and won't report back til next Wednesday; the wife worked all day so I had some 'me' time, with which I jacked around with a guitar, and watched a king of queens marathon this afternoon. Time away from work is good for ya, and I do like my job btw.

Here in Connecticut it's cool and cloudy with predicted highs ~ 70 degrees.
Maybe scattered showers and thunderstorms tonight.
Just about perfect to be outside today and watching the Cavaliers tonight.
And this weekend:
The Indians start a 3-game set against Boston tomorrow (May 20th). It's been over a month since I got to watch the Tribe (April 17th - Mets)(I only get to watch the Indians on TV when they play Boston or one of the New York City teams)
Or the rare "game of the week".

Drove to Maumee (toledo) to watch our girls softball team in the distict championship game. They beat an undefeated Eastwood team, 2-1. Coolest part, aside from winning? One of the girls on the team has an uncle that had a stroke back in Sept. (at age 45) Knowing he was going to be at the game, she told him last night "I'm going to hit a home run for you."
What's she do? Top of the 6th, score tied 1-1, she crushes one. Just the sound off the bat - you knew it was gone. Landed about 20 feet past her uncle, over the left field fence. Put the girls up 2-1, and they held on for the district championship. Regionals next week.
Then, we drove to Defiance to watch our boys baseball team in their district finals. They also won, 2-0. Regionals next week also.
The stands were kinda full, so instead of walking up to my seat, I decided to jump from the ground at the back of the bleachers, to the 5th row so as to not have to ask people to move.
I'm not as agile as I once was. Didn't complete the jump up, leg swung, hard, into a piece of angle iron (well, angle aluminum). Gashed the back of my lower calf, just above the ankle. Bad. The good news is, it hurt so bad I completely forgot about my headache.
The gash is about 1 1/2", and it tore me open fairly deep. Tried just using napkins to soak up the blood. Next thing I know, someone had called the athletic trainer. He cleaned it out, suggested I get stitches. Then he said "if you're going to go get stitches, I'll do "this". But, if you're not going to get stitches, I'll do "that".
I said "well, let's just go with the "that" part."

j/c Hopefully what they say about the family that fights crime together stays together is true. Assuming anybody actually says that... but I digress... So going on about a week and half ago I was at my girlfriend's place. She's a sheriff's deputy. The ring at the door that I thought was the pizza guy was actually a detective with my department's Fugitive Unit. He saw her patrol car in the driveway and wanted to let us know that they were looking for a 16yr old who lived across the street for a series of armed robberies. At that point he and his buddy had robbed 5 times, sometimes pistol whipping people. For the rest of the week we basically did our own stake out on the place, but dude never came home. These guys were the top priority for my department all week long. Last Sunday I'm about to get off (of work) and she calls and says that her 12yr old daughter came in rom walking the dog and told her that dude was sitting on his porch. She knows him from the bus stop (before he was expelled). My lady goes out, pokes around, and verifies it was him. Being with the kids she couldn't safely take him in to custody so she kept eyes on him all sneaky like until I and a buddy got there and took him in to custody. A short ride to the Detective station, 15 minutes of Q and A, and he gives up the location where his buddy was staying. Within a couple hours they had the other one in custody also. All told, they were both charged with 8 counts each of armed robbery and around 10 counts of kidnapping for added measure. Pretty cool we got two very dangerous criminals off the street About that same time I also saw a news blurb where the pervert I initiated an investigation against for having child porn plead guilty and was up for sentencing next month. Faces up to 30yrs (he's 64). The part I toot my own horn about with that case is that a) it went Federal and b) the Fed's typically won't take a case unless it's nearly air tight... all T's crossed, I's dotted. Those are the cases that get lost based on technicalities or simple mistakes, usually made by that first dumb cop who came across it. If anyone is wondering about putting a 64yr old man away for likely the rest of his life: he had Gigabytes of child porn ranging almost the past 10yrs, had spy cameras set up in his bathroom and filmed his 5 and 8 yr old grand kids, and hired himself out as a Santa and other characters for kids parties... I feel not an ounce of sympathy for him.

Positive year: My friends daughter had an awesome senior year of high school. In the fall, she plays volleyball, breaks the school record for number of kills in a season. Get named volleyball player of the year for her division and gets a front page article about her on the sports page of the local paper.
In winter, she plays club volleyball, her team came in first in a national qualifier. They went to nationals and placed 2nd.
In spring she runs track, broke the school record for long jump. 2 weeks later, breaks her own record in long jump. This past weekend her relay team got 1st at state track meet.
It's supposed to be hard! If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard... is what makes it great!

I'll probably jinx the Streaks - BUT - neither the girls softball nor the boys baseball teams were expected to do this: Make it to regionals in the state tourney.
Not only did both make it to regionals (that's 16 teams - think NCAA Sweet 16). They both won their regional semifinal games. That makes them 1 of 8 teams left in the state tourney as of now. (in Div. 3) As in, the baseball team is one of only 8 teams left, with a game tomorrow to possibly put them in the final 4. Same with softball, but their game is Saturday.
I won't say it's never happened - but it has to be rare that 1 school has a baseball team and a softball team in regionals - let alone regional finals.
Boys are back in Elida Ohio to play Clear Fork H.S. tomorrow. Best way to get to Elida is...........take a helicopter. There's no road that goes there. There's no road that goes near there.
Girls play at noon on Saturday in Bellefountaine, Oh. Kinda pretty much the same thing. At least from here.

They are over achieving. Until you stop and realize: Hey, they're playing the teams that have won. They are playing the teams the the tourney has afforded them.
If either, or both of them, bow out in the regional finals, so be it.
I know something like this probably isn't a big deal for most people/schools. That's fine. It isn't even a huge deal for us. But it's fun. Fun for the kids, fun for the fans. (and as I tell my daughter: keep swinging and maybe you can be part of this in the future)

Oops, I don't even know the model of my car. I got the EX.
I would've liked an EX-T coupe, but money factored into the overall decision.

So, my niece made it into the state track finals (division 3) in the 400 (individual) and the 1600 relay (team event). She's 1 day and 6 hours older than my daughter. Congrats to her, and "GO Kota!!!)
Also, I had an Athletic Boosters golf outing today. Same team as last year, when we sucked and finish 2 under. This year, we finished 11 under. Still got beat though. Winning team was 17 under.
Had a very good time though.
Oh, also attended the softball banquet tonight. (our varsity girls should've been playing in the state tournament aside from the fact that they lost in the regional finals)
I had my daughter batting at .410 for the season. As proof that I am very unbiased in reporting her batting average, the coaches had her at .420. (as opposed to my wife's calculations which were somewhere around .970. Honestly, wife doesn't know what a "hit" is, and she admits it. She thinks if you hit the ball, it's a hit. Can't tell you how many conversations wife and had after a game when wife would say "okay, she was 3-3 tonight, right?" "No, she was 1-3. The grounder the shortstop didn't field wasn't a it, and the ball the left fielder dropped wasn't a hit. She was 1-3." "Well, she hit the ball, that's a hit." "No, it's not, trust me. Those were errors. Errors aren't hits, they're errors". "I don't get it")
And there were times Sooga just smacked the ever living out of it - going 6-6 in one game.
