I checked my dictionary and as far as I can tell not caring and lazy are not the same thing, perhaps someone else has a different definition. Someone told me once to stop saying I should do something and say could instead and I might out the subject I felt I should do was not all that important to me. For some of us spelling and grammar are important in all aspects of our life because that's how we were raised or what we care to do. For others it's just not that way.

I think most of us agree, as Saint said, that in business proper spelling and grammar is important to the perception of professionalism. In that case it's best to point out errors. Even then tough I don't think anyone wants a co-worker to stand in front of the rest of the office and point at the person who made the error and tell them what a stupid mistake it was.

I am in West Virginia today, and no matter how wrong any of my family speaks, I am NOT going to bring up any errors to them!

Just got done cleaning up dad's computer...that's all the errors I'm going to deal with while I'm hear.

I here wrong speak all the time, and it's not my place to korrect it, even more so now...

Oh, I totally agree that this happens around here and it often makes the "corrector" look even more foolish than the "correctee".

I have to ask this. Aren't some of you doing the same thing that you are complaining about? Telling someone how to post on a message board? I mean, that IS what you are doing here. I've seen some of the very people here, who are complaining, insinuating that someone is stupid and inferior while on political threads, chearleader threads, etc.

You guys are calling people anal, egotistical, acting like they are superior, etc. Are you not saying you are so much better than they are because you don't post like this? You are somehow wonderful and caring because you don't care how people spell and yet you rail on somebody who does and start a thread to basically nail the person to the wall?

I'm really curious. I don't care for hypocrisy.

And you know, this may very well be a part of why I feel as I do. Both of my parents are from Kentucky. Neither had a major southern draw to begin with. But my dad,you could tell if you listenned for it. He kept his natural accent pretty much in tact though it was very slight.

My mom on the other hand, was quite a different matter. She NEVER let her speech sound "southern". She worked very hard, and quite successfully at hiding and changing her speech patterns to "sound northern". She told me that people thought you were an easy mark, and took you as being stupid if they thought you were from the south.

Growing up,I took that as her being ashamed of where she was from and that she tried to "hide her herritage" rather than take pride in her herritage. It bothered me a great deal. So that may have something to do with my reluctance to conform to what others "percieve" as "important" in the grammer department.

My mom was very good at spelling and her pronounciation was second to none. But I felt it was a shame that she felt the need to hide her accent so that she felt equal to others in Ohio. I understand her logic,I just never have seemed to be able to share her views on the subject.

If someone can tell other people what they do wrong it only seems fair that it goes the other way. It's not like it's going to change anything.

Interesting. And, I agree it's sad your Mom felt that way. But, I will tell you my experience with "Ohio accent." I moved to Philadelphia and found a job where the very first day we were outside smoking and several people asked where I was from. I said Ohio. They were dumbfounded. They all swore I was from Kentucky or Tennessee. My accent was very southern sounding to them. As time went by, I started noticing how "southern" my family sounded when I would visit. It was something I had never noticed, but was quite clear after being away from it for so long. Having been back almost 7 years, I can hear myself sounding "southern" every now and then. Just my observations on my own accent...and that we DO have more of a drawl to our speach than those from Cleveland, for example.

My Father was that way, never graduated, had to quit school after 8 years to drive truck to support my grand parents. My father was the hardest worker I've ever seen, could fix anything, was excellent at spelling, wiz at math but was ashamed he never graduated and was from the south, so he hid his accent and stayed in the back grounds at school activites, where ya here, where did ya graduate from....what is strange is my father even took classes on diesel machanics and small engine repair when he was in his late 40's and I remember him coming home with certificates on passing and was elated, i never knew he didnt graduate until I graduted, he hide it that well.

Many times it not what or who you are it's how society perceves who you are.

I'm getting first hand lessons and I'm immersed in it up to my eyeballs!

Dad will be happy when he gets back though...took all the adware and spyware off his system and it is snappy as brand new now!

He'll be as happy as a pig in slop!

Not really. After all, isn't that what this thread is about? We are addressing the subject at hand. I see these "opinions" as the very basis of this thread as a matter of fact. I mean the "grammer police" posters have also shared their views on the topic, have they not?

Had the thread been about "The Price Of Oil In Today's Market" and we were critiqueing grammer to bolster our side of the arguement,I could see your point.

But isn't a thread about spelling and grammer, when placed on a message board, the very place you SHOULD be giving your opinions about how and why it's done on that very same message board?

It's no different than the posters who seem to feel it IS important and that you make yourself look foolish by not practicing it,don't you think?

Yeah you'd better where you're going OH MY. I went to the Burger King right near where you're going to work and the girl behind the counter offered me something for a dollar. I said "pardon me" and she repeated it to this day I don't know what she offered me. I turned it down because I had no clue.

Now bring me a hammerwould ya?

No,I just never saw a "topic" that was about this subject that afforded me the proper place to give "my opinion" on the matter. But now you have decided to tell others "they are wrong in their opinion" and speak of hypocricy? I won't go as far as using the term hypocricy, but there's certainly a little "irony" burried in that meassge somewhere.

I'm really not the one trying to "play the perfectionist" here.

I understand that all humans have their strong suits and their weaknesses. I accept each one as such. Even the grammer police.

They can't help it they're absorbed by their own "self worth and greater ability to spell than others." It's just amusing and something I thought I'd "share".

Are we still speaking in terms of pot?
Or have you switched the topic to cigars?

Because I think there is a difference...we can all have idiotic thoughts or take a idiotic position from time to time.

A dumbass is just a dumbass.

You mean you have never dealt with an idiot who wasn't stupid??

Dumb people probably can't change, idiots can with the proper correction.
