I go get Miller for Zimmer OR Frazier and anything else it takes within reason.

The Yankees have made it known that it will take 3 times the talent to acquire Miller than it did to acquire Chapman. No team will come close to offering that.

I was kind of hoping the Tribe would work out a deal for Melancon. Washington made out in that deal IMO.

What teams say and what teams do are not always the same thing.

Having said that, I don't think we give up what will be needed to get Miller from the Yankees.

Wish we would have thrown in Bradley or Zimmer to get one of the Brewers relievers included.

Wade Davis with KC would be a great pickup, except that I read somewhere that he was getting his arm checked out.

Melancon went to the Nationals.

Chapman went to the Cubs.

Any other top relievers available? Guess The Brewers relievers Smith and Jeffress are not technically off the table. But I imagine the teams would have lumped the 2 trades together.

If we don't add a top reliever, do we add a lesser reliever? Perhaps like we did a few years back with Rapczienski (or however you spell his name).

Yankees GM Brian Cashman does an amazing job in landing both outfielder Clint Frazier and LHP Justus Sheffield in an Andrew Miller deal on a day that the Indians became the Yankee and the Yankees became the Indians buy/sell reversal at usual trade deadlines. Yanks land Indians 2nd & 3rd best prospects while Indians position themselves for a legitimate shot at a World Series appearance.

Okay, I can't joke the FO is cheap anymore. Miller makes 9 million in 2017, and in 2018. Lucroy makes over 5 million next year, but they might be working on an extension before he drops the NTC.

Wow. IT's like the 90s all over again.

Outstanding news, hate to lose Frazier and would have personally preferred losing Zimmer to him, but this is great news.

Good to see the Dolans going after it this year!

Lucroy and Miller, wow!

Now my only gripe is for them to totally erase Wahoo, and put him in the museum where it belongs.

Indians will control Miller for 2 more years after this season. That means that the starting rotation and bullpen will remain intact through 2018 ... a solid 3 year window to finally bring a WS win home for the first time in nearly 70 years.

Tribe is in win now

The big market Indians sticking it to the little man again. Baseball really needs a salary cap.

This puts Indians payroll around $100M; still pretty far back from the Yankees, Dodgers, Red Sox, and Tigers - but I get your point. There's still rumors about the Indians talking to Tampa about infielder Steve Pearce, and maybe lefty reliever Xavier Cedeno. The cherry on top would be if somehow Brantley can come back healthy.

Every team in MLB has plenty of money. The Indians just finally decided to spend some of it.

Prospects still in Indians farm: Zimmer, Bradley, Aiken, Clevinger, Diaz, MCKENZIE, Hillman, Plutko, Benson, Jones

https://twitter.com/LetsGoTribe/status/759761884811780096

I recognize five names on that list. Farm is still strong but took a hit today. If I'm not mistaken, Bradley is supposed to be our power bat of the future.

If the Lucroy deal goes through it would include a SS that would probably never make it here anyways because of Lindor and a C that is a few years out.

I think Naquin's emergence may have made it easier to part with either Frazier or Zimmer. The encouraging thing is that these trades aren't just for this year. There is some longevity to them and we might have a pretty solid corp for the next few season. I wonder is these moves will have any effect on Santana's team option because we just took on a bunch of cash. I know his contract isn't much but it's just a thought.

Wow. That means he probably asked for an extension and they said no. I wonder if they would trade for Brian McCann (if he waived his no trade clause).

I figured that was going to happen. We were on his no trade list for a reason. No big deal.

But not necessarily an "I don't want to play for Cleveland" reason. Players (and Agents) will put teams on the list as leverage for exactly what may have happened....to squeeze more money out of smaller markets in their current deal that normally won't have as much or aren't as willing to spend as others. I don't know what other teams are on the list but I wouldn't be surprised of other mid-markets are listed as well. Latest rumors indicated Lucroy was using his no-trade clause to increase salary for both 2016 and 2017.

I don't think it was a matter of "I don't like Cleveland" rather a blanketed approach by the player and agent.

Just my guess.

I'm going to try to not worry about the one that got away. We did just get one of the best relievers in baseball, and a lefty at that. Plus, he's currently locked up for another two years.

Screw Lucroy. We'll find another catcher.

Just heard on YES network that Indians are not in on McCann ... maybe a catcher elsewhere

When he was with the Braves, McCann got a lot of press for being the "caretaker to the game". Chirping at hitters admiring their homers, flipping their bats, circling the bases too slow, crap like that. He's from the old school of baseball and isn't afraid to tell the opposing players where they are wrong. I remember him saying he'd tone it down in NY.

He's one example I found:

Maybe I misspoke about him being an ass. I guess I'd take him as an Indian if he improved the team, but I don't like those old fogey types. It's a new era, let the hitters flaunt a bit. MLB needs more viewers and attitude if it's going to compete against football and basketball.

I vaguely remember some of that stuff now that I see it ... I actually agree about letting the new wave of baseball take over. The game needs it because it's a dying sport.

If the Indians got McCann I think you'd be pretty happy with his attitude. He hasn't been nearly that demonstrative in NY
