Lucroy turns down the opportunity for a less demanding position, two potential World Series appearances, and the chance to smack the ever living life outta American Lewgue pitching; what a doofus.
Go take your greed of being "the highest paid MLB catcher" elsewhere. We ain't got time for that.
(Disclaimer:Yes, Miller makes a good coin, but he's willing to adjust his role in the bullpen. What a class act.)
He is? I wasn't aware of that. I'm a NYY fan and haven't heard anything like that.
The Tribe will love Miller (not just as a pitcher) ... upstanding dude
When he was with the Braves, McCann got a lot of press for being the "caretaker to the game". Chirping at hitters admiring their homers, flipping their bats, circling the bases too slow, crap like that. He's from the old school of baseball and isn't afraid to tell the opposing players where they are wrong. I remember him saying he'd tone it down in NY.
He's one example I found:
Maybe I misspoke about him being an ass. I guess I'd take him as an Indian if he improved the team, but I don't like those old fogey types. It's a new era, let the hitters flaunt a bit. MLB needs more viewers and attitude if it's going to compete against football and basketball.
I love Brian McCann. That is exactly the kind of catcher I want on my team. Are you crazy???
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.
Baseball needs to just stick to its market. It will never take away views from the NFL. It sure as hell won't ever get the views the NBA does since its expansion to the China market.
There;'s no way we would trade for Lucroy, giving up 3 or 4 prospects, to rent him for the rest of the year.
It appears that it's now down to either us talking him into coming here .... or him going to the Rangers. I doubt that the Rangers are going to bid things up against themselves, and I doubt that they are going to tear up that option. Why would they? If they are the only team left in it .... then they hold the cards.
I am kinda bummed, because I really liked the idea of getting Lucroy. However, we added Miller, and that's huge. He's signed through 2018. We'll have our rotation and Miller under contract, and have Allen with arbitration for the next 2 years, and Shaw under arbitration next year.
We should be in great shape with out pitching staff for the next couple of years.

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."
Cleveland acquired Andrew Miller from the Yankees on Sunday morning and will plug him right in at closer. Allen has been very good this year, boasting a 2.58 ERA and 20 saves in 45 1/3 innings, but he probably isn't going to get many ninth-inning chances down the stretch.

Cleveland Indians still trying to figure out who pitches where with addition of Andrew Miller

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Now that Andrew Miller is here, just how will the Indians use him? And what does this mean for the late-inning tandem of Bryan Shaw and closer Cody Allen?
Allen said last week that he was ready to vacate the closer's role if the Indians landed a big arm. They missed on Aroldis Chapman, but they acquired Miller, Chapman's stable mate from the Yankees.
The cost was high – outfielder Clint Frazier, left-hander Justus Sheffield, right-hander Ben Heller and right-hander J.P. Feyereisen. In MLB.com's top 30 Indians prospects for 2016, Frazier is No.1, Sheffield No.5 and Heller No.30. In Baseball America's midseason top 100 prospects for 2016, Frazier is No.21 and Sheffield No. 69.
The Indians will also assume the estimated $21 million left on Miller's contract that runs through 2018.
So it's not like Miller got here by accident or without forethought. But on Sunday morning, before the Indians swept the A' s with a 8-0 victory, manager Terry Francona was in no hurry to say who was going to pitch where.
"In Andrew Miller we are getting one of the very elite relievers in all of baseball," said Francona. "You can even take it a step farther because we have guys at the end of the game that are interchangeable not only in their willingness (to pitch in different roles), but in arm actions.
"We're going to have a chance to leverage guys and believe me we will."
Miller, 31, was scheduled to arrive in Cleveland on Sunday night. He'll be at Progressive Field on Monday. Once he gets settled, Francona plans to meet with him, Allen, Shaw and others to discuss their roles.
Terry Francona on new bullpen arrangement "I told Andrew that there have been guys here for four years now that have thrown about 75 games a year and that's very meaningful," said Francona. "I want to talk to all of them together at one point before we get started so we're all on the same page."
Miller opened the season as the Yankees' closer with Chapman serving a 30-game suspension for a violation of MLB's domestic violence policy.
Tribe all in following acquisition of Miller Tribe all in following acquisition of Miller The Indians have pushed all in. The Tribe will reportedly acquire Yankees lefty reliever Andrew Miller in exchange for a haul of prospects that includes outfielder Clint Frazier and pitcher Justus Sheffield.
In his first nine games, Miller went 1-0 with five saves. He did not allow a run or walk in nine innings, while striking out 15. He threw 103 pitches, 81 or 79 percent for strikes.
When Chapman joined the Indians, Miller moved to the eighth inning. After Miller was traded to the Cubs on Monday, he moved back into the closer's roll. In his last two appearances with the Yankees, he registered saves against Houston last week. For the season, Miller is 6-1 with nine saves and a 1.39 ERA in 44 appearances. He's struck out 77, walked seven and allowed seven earned runs in 45 1/3 innings. The opposition is hitting .183 against him.
"I think we can almost do whatever we want in the bullpen," said pitching coach Mickey Callaway. "If we're talking just the back-end guys, I think we can pitch those guys anywhere from the sixth to the ninth and I think they'll all be good with it.
"We're going to have to look at who's coming up (to the plate) and who can hurt us in those high-leverage situations and just leverage everyone of those guys to the max."
Shaw, who has owned the eighth inning this season, is 2-4 with a 4.00 ERA (20 earned runs in 45 innings). When he's good, he's very good. When he's bad, well, we know how that goes. At the moment Shaw has allowed runs in just one of his last 20 appearances. It was four runs, OK, but he's rolling now.
Chris Antonetti on Andrew Miller trade Allen converted his 20th save in 22 chances Friday. He's struck out 57 and walked 18 in 45 1/3 innings. The opposition is hitting just .194 against him, but like Shaw he's had his moments this season.
Francona talked to Allen briefly Sunday morning about his plans for the pen.
Allen tells Tribe he change roles if it lands big arm Allen tells Tribe he change roles if it lands big arm Cody Allen tells Indians he'll move out of closer's role if they acquire a big bullpen arm.
"I think when he gets here, we're going to sit down and talk to Tito," said Allen. "I think it will be one of those things were both of us will be in the situation of being ready to pitch. I think both of us are fine with that. "
Miller has already been through what Allen is experiencing right now. He was the Yankees closer in 2015, saving 36 games and striking out 100 in 61 2/3 innings.
We're going to have a chance to leverage guys and believe me we will. "When the Yankees got Chapman, he said, 'Hey, I'll pitch wherever. Just tell me when to pitch,'" said Allen. "That the perfect guy to have and we've got him."
Callaway said the Indians might not have a fulltime closer for the rest of the year.
"We're going to try and win ballgames," he said. "We're not going to try and get guys saves and holds and things like that. We're going to go out and try to win ballgames."
Miller pitched for Francona in Boston in 2011. He was a starter then, going 6-3 with a 5.54 ERA in 17 appearances, including 12 starts. The next year, Miller made the move to a fulltime reliever.
"He was our target guy for a reclamation project that winter," said Francona. "I must have called him 10 or 15 times. I loved what I saw. I told him, 'We're going to simplify things.'
"During the season, he wasn't the finished product, but he was getting there. Then I ended up leaving Boston and he took off. So it will be nice in the same uniform."
As for what kind of pitcher the 6-7 Miller is exactly, Callaway said, "His stuff is pretty ridiculous. He's right there, first or second, in strikeouts per innings pitched. He doesn't walk anybody and they don't get hits off him.
"He can attack lefties and righties. If we have a stretch of two lefties and a righty coming up who are really good hitters, we have no problem bringing him in and letting him face all three of them."

Cody Allen said that he would be fine with changing roles .... which a lot of closers would not accept. However, he said that he wants to win a Series, and if that means changing roles, he's fine with it.
He's a true pro.

as long as Shaw gets less time on the mound I'm fine

I think that he gets a really bad rap. He allowed runs in something like 1 of his last 17 appearances. He was really bad in that 1 game, allowing 4 runs, but other than that, he has been very strong lately.
I really like having Shaw, Allen, and Miller as a 7th, 8th, and 9th inning combo. We can also use Dan Otero in there as well. Then we also have McAllister and Manship as 2 other pretty good bullpen arms ......
We already had a good bullpen ..... now I think that we have a great bullpen. (to go along with what might be the best starting staff in all of baseball)
Supposedly we are frontrunners for Beltran as well ... and I'd be OK with adding him .... as long as he doesn't cost very much. I wouldn't want to give up more than a mid level Minor Leaguer for him, at most. He is hitting .300 and has 21 HR ..... which would be a nice power boost for the team ...... but I have no idea where he would play in the field. He is also a pure rental at this point.
Well... it will be interesting to see what happens.

The Indians should definitely pursue Beltran aggressively IMO. He's a great bat and can still play in the field. Switch hitter. Veteran leader. Proven postseason player. He can be a big piece.

Don't want a guy who has to be talked into playing here, c ya bro
It's just business, nothing personal. If it can get worked out, we are better with him.
Lucroy issue is a mess now , Brewers are the Browns of MLB. Last nite the MLB ticker has the Mets, Rangers and us ceasing talks , they won't get a better deal than yesterday, good luck

Shaw puts way too many runners on base and gets into jams. He pitches out of them most of the time, but come October with him on the mound we could have another "the" in the Cleveland sports lore, and not of the good kind. He makes me way too nervous.

Good gawd, do they not employ proof-readers anymore?

yeah i always get nervous when Shaw comes in, looks more like an insurance salesman then a ball player..lol, he's been on more than off but he seems to always make it harder than it has to be. He's alot like Bauer for me, I get nervous anytime i watch bauer pitch, he seems to be always pitching out of a tough situation that he put himself in.
Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. Comes into us at midnight very clean. It's perfect when it arrives and it puts itself in our hands. It hopes we've learned something from yesterday. -John Wayne
His role will change, obviously, with Miller on board. There are many times, with our starters, where we won't need a reliever before the 7th or 8th inning. Heck, some nights we might need only Miller to close out a game, or Allen and Miller to finish a game off.
I think that this bullpen is now a huge asset.

I saw a thing on Twitter that said that the Indians are 51-0 when entering the 9th inning with a lead.
I think that we will be devastating when entering the 8th with a lead now.

I'd be careful with Puig. He's regressed badly. Been injured. Bad attitude. Uncoachable.
