The diving pool turned green a few days ago, then the water polo pool turned green yesterday, I think.

My co-workers wife has a PHD in chemistry and teaches at Duke.. she heard the article claiming that the water tested fine and her response was.. "Yea, fine for whatever you tested for."

I heard that a chemical pump broke and evidently either nobody knew or they couldn't get it fixed in time. the pump was supposed to be monitoring and adding chemicals to the pool at a certain rate, then that stopped, algae grew.. and it grew damn fast. From clean to green over night..

I know we're supposed to cheer USA no matter what, but I genuinely do not like her. If there was an athlete in the NFL and NBA that acted the same way she does, they would never hear the end of it. She gets a pass as a golden child. Respect to her individual accomplishments, but for the most part I'm glad we'll never have to see her again.

Could you imagine Steph Curry saying something like this after losing game 7?

Sold out. How many attended? And, what IS sold out at a track like that?

The grandstands were sold out? (what seating capacity do they have?)

Oh, it's 33,000. http://www.jayski.com/pages/tracks-seating.htm

And that site is about as reputable as there is when it comes to racing.

Right. I don't think the WPS League will make it (Women's Professional Soccer)

And I doubt Solo can hang-on as the best US goalie in 2020. (too many good college teams)

Oopppssss wrong Solo

Me thinks it's kinda like the sold tickets policy at nfl games.

Hey, we sold 70,000. Yeah, only 35,000 showed up, but, hey, we got our money.

And I'll also add, attendance at nascar races has dwindled big time over the last few years.

It used to be tracks couldn't add seats fast enough. Now? Tracks are tearing seats out.

I rather watch a nascar road race than the usual four lefts.

Ah, so you like parades?

Hey, what's the irl been doing since they went all "road race"?

When you see about 3 passes on the track, for a complete race, and you see about 20 passes in the pits, it tells you something.

I don't watch either anymore. Most people don't. The irl sold it's soul with road races, and nascar just simply got too big for their britches.

The local dirt tracks is where racing really is. The money in nascar is pathetic. (the money it takes to run, that is).

I am just stating what I enjoy, dude. You can infer and twist whatever you want from that. But it doesnt change what I enjoy.

Got it.

I was just stating my opinion, and the numbers back me up.

Deandre and Boogie are too 1 sided. We need to roll out:

Kyrie
Jimmy
PG13
Durant
Green

Length, athleticism and scoring should be crushing teams.

Serbia is well coached and fundamental. USA is more athletic

Jimmy Butler is an animal defensively. His offense doesn't fit in international ball, but he's an absolute nightmare defensively. If he was bigger, I'd almost put him ahead of Kawhi.

I agree. He's about as good as it gets on D

Paul George is too, but he's not as aggressive as Jimmy or Kawhi. Those 2 will hound guys.

strange to think we're still missing Lebron, Chris Paul, Anthony Davis, Wade, Curry, Leonard, Lillard

I'm curious as to what the rules are to qualify.

They do but, you wouldn't know about it via NBC (better known as the "Michael Phelps Channel") The BBC did a whole story on the refugee team. If you go to their website you may find it there.

I am actually glad the US Women's Team got knocked out. Hope Solo's comments only add to my dislike for the team. They needed humbling and this may well be it.

I posted this to my facebook wall tonight.
I was inspired by an Instagram post that showed up in my feed.

I hope that My Dawgs appreciate it in the spirit that it was intended.

I'm just overwhelmed by what I witnessed.

***************

THIS is why my cheeks were wet, when I saw Simone Manuel win the gold medal for The United States of America, last night.

I was alive (and still impressionable) when Lima's Schoonover 'municipal' pool was a "wet Summer place" that was still off-limits to me and my kind. Same was true for Long's quarry- and many other private facilities of the time.
___________________

I owe my childhood swimming roots to places like the YMCA and YWCA- Christian establishments who valued Human Potential over the superficial social issues of the times. Without them, I would have sank in water like a stone. Instead, I found a place for myself beyond the cello... a place that was even beyond what My Father could have found himself...

...and that's the very definition of The American Dream:
to see one's child do better than one's self.

(At this point, it's also important to issue a 'shout out' to Bradfield Community Center for the important work that they did during those times, as well.)
____________________

I swam for Lima Senior High School because I loved my town, my school, my classmates... and I loved being in the water. I was never a 'difference-maker' in ANY of the meets we swam... but those days on LHSH's swim team helped to create the 60 year-old man who saw greatness realized this week.

My Pops couldn't swim a single stroke, until he saw His Babies take to the water like they were born to it. THAT'S when he signed up for lessons at our local YMCA.

And My Father learned something at the age of 30+ that was denied him in his "Wonder Years." Something that I'd always assumed was an American birthright. You're never too old to make yourself better. You're never too old a dogg to learn a new trick or two....
________________________

Simone Manuel validated the valiant efforts of My Father last night.
She validated every stroke I ever took in practice laps for LSHS.
She validated every effort made by any American who has ever pushed through the social obstacles in her path.
And she blazed a trail that unlocks the potential that lies within each of us.

THIS is why I wept tears of joy, last night.
Simone Manuel is a latter-day National Treasure.

Wow.
A descendant of slaves has just reached the pinnacle of Human Achievement, against almost insurmountable odds.

Only in America.....

[Instagram post]: "Never forget: They drained an entire pool because Dorothy Dandridge stuck her toe in it. That is why Simone Manuel is important."

In the words of Maya Angelou: "And still, I rise- I rise."
