As they should be. They almost lost at home against the Backup Browns.

It also confirms that Adam Gase is not HC material which is why I never wanted him for the Browns

Pasztor was awful, he's not a RT, can't pass protect although to be fair the Dolphins have some players on the DL.
The kicker was worse
Pryor was a beast, he and Gordon will give DCs a lot of trouble
Crowell ran hard, kindred is a good tackler
Cody is smart, mostly accurate and is tough, but his arm strength will always make him Chad Pennington

It sucks that we lost, but I see good things about this football team... for 2017. I enjoyed today's game, we showed fire.
We lost but played hard, had a chance to win but it was wide left. we will in a few games this year , ain't gonna be 0-16.

There was a lot to like with our Browns today. They showed heart, intensity and a will to win. They wanted to win badly and it showed. Hue Jackson can coach no doubt. It hurts to think that this team can easily be 2-1 right now. We have some good young talent and it will take time but watching the heart they show at least gives us some hope for the future.

Kessler doesn't have talent, but he was better than Colt McCoy in his first game, which still amazes me how much love he got for for putting 0 points on the board vs Pittsburgh

that alone is a victory.

Agreed. He signed the contract and took the money to be our kicker. It sure looked like he had good snaps and good holds.

Exactly. Everyone pictured him kicking three safeties out of the back of the end zone. He didn't. Wasnt spectacular but improvement from the first series was fair. Hue should have ran the ball more for the kid. It was working for us.

Sorry but I call BS on that. Paz could not handle the outside rush at ALL. He flat out was horrible any time they came from the outside edge. He just doesn't have the feet to turn and block. He was playing like a guard and not a RT.

I 100% expect him to be out next weak with a hamstring injury

I thought that most of the Browns played pretty well today.

The notable exceptions were our RT and K. (obviously)

Overall, though, while I am disappointed with a loss, I am happy with the way most of these guys played.

I saw multiple times where he lead Wake around Kessler, and the ball should have been out already.

..but on a couple of those penalties he was beaten badly and had to tackle Wake to keep Kessler from getting killed.

better than our kicker, I wouldn't bet against. I know he can actually make nfl throws and get the ball out faster than 10 seconds, ours cant

kessler got way better in the second half when he got comfortable.

its a third stringer's first start. calm down.

Lol tell me to calm down, that's funny. Kessler will never be the answer. He holds the ball too long, gives up too fast, and misses Lot of reads. Yeah rookie I get it. But he looked lost today. Most of his yards came from Pryor completely owning his man and getting yac. I actually enjoyed most of the game as it was competitive. But no doubt with a more experienced qb we win. Some one already mentioned it, I see a Pennington/McCoy. Just saying we had a chance to take a franchise qb and we didn't. The rest of the team is waiting.

I also want to say this:

there are posters who did a ton of whining that we should've drafted dak prescott

Prescott's first start: 25/45 227 yards. 0 TD, 0 INT, 55.6%, 5.04 yards per pass, 69.4 QB rating. Loss

Kessler's first start: 21/33 244 yards. 0 TD, 0 INT, 63.6%, 7.39 yards per pass, 85.9 QB rating. Loss

now, i'm not a scientist, or from Harvard, but it seems like our 3rd round QB had a better day than their 4th round QB.

again, a third string rookie making his first start.

no one is saying he's the answer. but you're acting like he had a terrible game. he didn't.

They should leave thqt "Pro Bowl" kicker unemployed and stranded in Florida. 9 points were left on the field and none more important than the final kick. I don't care if he only signed on Friday...a 38 yd should be a chip shot.

I also wonder why we abandoned the run game towards the end.

I see the positives but, this is a team that should be 2-1. I also fear the spirit and intensity we saw today, with Pryor in particular, may wane as the losses mount.

Actually, as upset as I thought I was over this loss, I realize I'm not.

Yes, the W was there for us, numerous times.

Just looking ahead here. McCown is out for another 1-3 weeks. Coleman is out for another 2-5 weeks. We get Gordon back in 2 weeks (now, what he'll be like on the field is an unknown, I know)

Kessler, take away the first series, looked fairly decent. Notice I didn't say "good".

And that was with 1 week to practice with the first team.

Crow ran the ball well, as did Duke.

Now, imagine the Browns having Barnidge, Pryor, Coleman, and Gordon back. Just imagine that.

It will happen this year. Even if Gordon is only a decoy, imagine the fear opposing d's will have playing us. Who do you double? Wanna double 2 receivers? Imagine what that will do for our running game.

Kessler proved himself serviceable. Just imagine what could be with Pryor, Gordon, and Coleman on the field.

Wentz is getting good protection, and his receivers are getting open. It's a TEAM game.

Kessler had me worried early on, but played ok. Nothing spectacular, clock management issues, typical rookie things. I think we have a solid backup. The search continues for the franchise guy...

That kicker was really bad. When your job is to simply kick a football and you miss 3 fairly easy FGs by NFL standards; you deserve the pink slip on Monday. While there are many reasons why a team loses, if I had to pick 1 player to place this on it is Parkey.

Some positives, this offense is going to be sick with a decent QB and all of the weapons we have healthy this year on the field. Pryor is truly an amazing athlete! He was the offense today. I really liked the various roles Hue used him in today. Cannot wait to see Pryor, Coleman, and Gordon in trip sets! Crow still runs hard and Johnson compliments the running game well.

We are another week closer to the #1 pick and the draft of the next "face of the franchise" so there's that.

Reason why Patzor was allowed to walk from Jacksonville (whom always has had a horrible line for multiple years now) was because he was horrid as their RT...we played him inside at guard last year and looked solid-good as a guard...With the cheap ass team we have, we did zero to address a good-very good starting RT...thought we could slide a guy who has proven to be a poor-very poor RT and expect him to be a stud...this is sadly Cleveland philosophy for alot of positions.

Interesting that this was the second game in a row that could have been won by the Browns kicking team.

Or should I say, decent Special teams.

I wonder if coaching/coaching philosophy is to blame.

I wonder if it's the natural progression of a team at the bottom that is correctly focused on getting better. (for instance, maybe that the focus has been on offense and defense and that's why the Browns were even close enough to lose due to poor special teams play)

General question to the posters of this board. I've seen a lot of comments about Kessler to the tune of "he'll make a decent backup". Watching the game today I thought there was more there. Something to work with and develop. He received high praise from Pryor and Thomas. It didn't feel like a Colt McCoy situation to me at all. McCoy would spend an entire game playing it safe only to rack up garbage yards when the game was out of reach. This just didn't feel that way to me. His arm also seemed good enough. Couple out routes and back shoulder throws were nice. Recognized the blitz. Showed toughness.

Why do people seem so sure he can't develop into more?

LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...
