I bit my tongue the other night when I saw stupid comments like
Kickers are the easiest guys to replace, just sign another one, anybody can kick, bla, bla, bla. I guess I have just given up on some folks ever learning that kickers, punters, and long snappers, are very important to a team. There are 53 players who are active every week, and all 53 of have to do their job in the NFL if they hope to win on Sundays.

Which guys are easier to replace than kickers?

My guess is that the front office has assigned a value to what a kicker is worth. Gould probably asked for more than they were willing to go. Even if you have money to spend, it doesn't mean you should overspend. This is all about process.

With all that said, it is truly demoralizing to sign a worse player because of what is certainly not very much money in the grand scheme of things.

Pats , Cinn Den, PHil, Balt sign talent not numeric values

Are we sure about that? New England often lets guys go when they are past their prime or doesn't want to pay them (Chandler Jones), Cincinnati is known to be a very cheap team (to the point where many were surprised when they re-signed Iloka this off-season), Denver let their QB of the future walk because of money, Philadelphia signed a bunch of big name guys and never won anything, and Baltimore is one of the most shrewd teams in the league in free agency, rebuilding their team with compensatory picks every year.

And now for the rest of the story...

Kicker Cody Parkey, who set an NFL rookie scoring record and went to the Pro Bowl as an Eagle in 2014, has agreed to contract terms with the Browns, according to a report by Cleveland.com on Friday night.

Parkey lost a preseason kicking battle with Caleb Sturgis and was released by the Eagles on Sept. 3. In Cleveland, he’ll replace kicker Patrick Murray, who got hurt during a practice on Friday.

Parkey scored 150 points in 2014, breaking not only the NFL rookie record but also the Eagles' franchise record. He made 32 of 36 field goal attempts, including all four of his attempts from 50 yards and out.

But last year, he went on injured reserve after just three games and was replaced by Sturgis.

In his two-year career, Parkey has made 35 of 40 field goals, and his 87.5 accuracy is fourth highest in NFL history among kickers who have attempted 40 or more field goals.

Parkey will join Matt Bahr as the second kicker to play for both the Browns and Eagles. Bahr, a Philly native and Neshaminy High School graduate, spent 1981 through 1989 with the Browns and kicked for the Eagles in 11 games in 1993.

The Browns face the Dolphins in Miami Sunday in a battle of 0-2 teams.

I wanted to be pissed off at the FO too, but this appears to be a good move, if he can get back on track. I read somewhere that he didn't even get to practice before the game, don't have a link though, so FWIW. But that sounds idiotic to me, so who knows?

I think that age and his history were far more important to this front office than anything else. The idea that he was still young, and could be a long term guy ring very true to me.

I'm sure they really like "his 87.5 accuracy is fourth highest in NFL history".

So?

Shake hands with the long snapper and holder, say hello to your special teams coach and head coach - kick the football straight, win the game. Pretty tough to meet four people in a day I guess?

Guy's an effin bum and the direct reason the Browns didn't win the game.

Looks like coach agrees with me. He is keeping the guy, and he should. Now if he goes out and misses kicks next week, it all changes, but last week the guy got the short straw.

Yeah, I can see Hue's point of view. Give the dude a chance ... clearly he has some talent based on his history.

It does show that Hue trusts his FO and own instincts ... as well as isn't knee jerk

Thought it was kinda funny but 92.3 this morning was apparently slotted to talk about the Browns kicker lol, but they mocked it and talked Indians instead.

Smart decision lol.

I have no clue on this one .. Since we were 20 million under the cap why exactly did we need to replace him? ... But let's not get sidetracked ..

So your saying he's NEVER OVERRIDEN his FO, coaches or GM? ..

Hmmmm ... I'll throw one name out there for ya and u let me know .. MANZIEL .. .

That move up and pick is on who exactly? .. tongue

Now even if U convince me it wasn't Jimbo's ... Here's the BIGGER QUESTION ...

Who hired Banner or in my example Farmer? Is the dirtbag not responsible for his hires? Pretty sure the buck stops with him ...

And u know GM .. If we ever do win the SB with him he will get ALL THE CREDIT IN THE WORLD FOR HIRING THE RIGHT PEOPLE ..

*shrugs* ...

He is an owner. People bash him for butting in, then they bash him for not butting in, then if we ever do win they will bash him for not winning sooner.

Banner did not want to resign him because of his age.

As far as Manziel, from what I hear Jimmy did want Johnny. However he didn't insist or overide anybody in making the trade or the pick. That can be blamed of Farmer, some scouts, and the coaching staff.

You know Jimmy hired Banner, and Banner hired Farmer, who was promoted to GM by Jimmy. All three turned out to be bad moves.

Your right however that Jimmy will get the credit if we ever did win just like Art Rooney did when Pittsburgh finally starting winning in the 70's after 37 years of losing.

GM - I'll NEVER bash him for butting out ... I could care less what others do ..

Look at the long term successful franchises in this league .. And they all have one thing in common ..

They are GREAT owners that HIRE PEOPLE and STAY OUT OF THEIR WAY ..

You'll never hear me bash an owner for staying out of the footballs people way ..

If u remember .. I LOVED Randy for that reason .. He hired his people and let them FAIL all on their own ..

If you have a bad kicker, you can easily replace him.

If you have a good kicker, it's really hard to replace him.

But wasn't one of the biggest criticisms of Randy that he didn't have enough interest in what was going with the team? At least in so far as he kept hiring people who failed?

Hey, Jimmy hasn't done himself some favors at times, but those who are constantly critical of him keep acting like he was handed a well oiled, championship organization and has run it in to the ground. On paper when he had Banner/Lombardi/Chud/Turner/Horton that should have been a recipe for success. Had it been I think Jimmy would have been fine to be much more hands off. But for whatever reasons that combination was a disaster. So when he's scraping the bottom of the barrel and we get the PetFarm, he has no choice BUT to get more involved.

So far this most recent FO set up appears to be striking a good balance in terms of his involvement. I know some people were torqued about Dee becoming involved with the team, but I have yet to see or here anything where she has had a hand with the roster, game planning, etc. For that matter I haven't seen anything about Jimmy doing the same either.

So far the only thing I've seen in regards to Jimmy's involvement is mac's crusade to convince everyone he's picking the pockets of players.
