I continue to pray for your son.

Alright, just got back from doctor's and the news was pretty good. It could have been much worse. We still have to go to Indiana to see specialist who will administer chemo and perform another surgery to remove lymph node and do further analysis. The good news is that analysis of cancer in the removed testicle was very positive. It was a nerve-wracking visit, but we are all thankful for the good news.

Thanks again to everyone that has been praying and wishing my son positive thoughts. We all are appreciative of your kindness.

My prayers will continue and please keep us updated as time allows.

Hows he doing mentally. I was just diagnosed with prostate cancer 3 weeks ago and had it removed + all 6 lymph nodes removed 10 days ago. Just got the great news that lymph nodes were cancer free, etc. Next step.....blood test in early Jan for a psa level.

Not looking for sympathy or congrats at all but it can be a mentally tough road for him. Depression, etc, etc. Sounds like he has some great family support as do I.

Just be there for him. I know you will.

First of all.............I will add you to my prayer list. I'm so sorry you have to go through this, but I am happy that you have great family support and that your other lymph nodes were cancer free. That's huge!!!! I'll PM you later to see if I can help you in any way.

My son is maintaining a strong outside face, but he's a young man and I am sure he is in turmoil on the inside. He asked if he could go back to work today. He's the boss at his place of business and is worried about that, but the doc said he would have to at least go on short-term disability. I think that messed w/him a bit. I respect his strength, but I want him to open up a bit and lean on those that love him. He may be 28, but he is still our baby.

I just wish God would have got me instead of him.

We are an extremely close family and we will do anything and everything possible to see him through this. I know many will scoff at this, but I believe in the power of prayer and positive thoughts, so please keep them coming. Thank you all so much.

Another update. We took our son to an oncologist today for the first time. For now, Indiana is on hold. Instead, they are going to admit him to the hospital after Thanksgiving and his birthday, which is on the 30th.

He will undergo intensive chemo to attack the cancer in his lymph node. He will be hospitalized for a minimum of one week and maybe quite a bit longer. They are hoping he will be able to go home after series of 5 treatments in that first week and then do outpatient treatment for 3 additional treatments on a 15 day cycle.

The doctor said it's going to be very painful w/all the bad things associated w/chemo, including extreme nausea, bone and joint pain, hair loss, etc.

It hit me kinda hard as I have a hard time thinking about my son dealing w/so much pain. My wife is worried and has lost quite a bit of weight, but she is an anesthetist, so she was probably more prepared than my son and I. My son is putting up a strong front, but admitted to me in private that he will be going nuts having to stay in the hospital.

I know I've asked for a lot of support for my son and the rest of my family [our daughter is having a hard time dealing w/this] but I am going to ask for more prayers and positive thoughts. Please know that I appreciate your support w/all my heart.

Prayers for your son are continuing from Youngstown as well, and my church prayed for your son in communal prayer as well.

Correction. The treatment is on a 21 day schedule, not a 15 day schedule. It was a lot to process, but my wife clarified that point for me. Sorry.

Not an atheist, but rather an anesthetist. She supplies anesthesia when people have surgery. My wife is actually extremely religious.

I mentioned that because she is way more familiar w/medical ailments than my son and I, thus she was a bit more ready to hear about our son being hospitalized and the intensity of the chemo treatments.

We have not stopped praying for y'all and we won't bro. Chemo sucks, there is no denying it. I wouldn't even have wished it on Art Modell, But it doesn't last forever. You endure it as best as you can, and you move on. Just shoot me a PM if ya wanna talk.

Thanks bro. One poster already gave me some tips for handling chemo. If you got any advice and a couple of spare minutes, please pm me and educate me.

I'm a dad and want to fix things for my baby, even though he is a grown man and about 4-5 inches taller than me. I know I can't fix anything right now, but it's hard to see your child suffer.

That is something that never changes it seems. He is your baby and even when you are 90 you will still feel that way.

It's not the same but I saw my father go through this 33 years ago. It's not easy but you have to have faith (hard to do I know)

The good news for your son is that cancer treatment has come a long way in the last 30+ years. There is generally more reason for hope than ever before.

Update:

Yesterday was the day my son was supposed to start his chemo treatments. He called the hospital in the morning and was told they didn't have a room ready for him. We waited around all day and they finally placed him in a new hospital around 6:00 p.m.

It was too late to give him his chemo treatment, but they attached the tube to his portal that is in his chest. He was not very happy about having to stay an extra day in the hospital.

Well, he gets 5 treatments and the anticipated release date is Sunday. He will then get 3 more treatments over 16 days as an outpatient and then start the 21-day cycle over again. There are four of those cycles and then he'll be re-evaluated.

Tell him to hang in there Vers. Chemo sucks. Been there done that. But as with everything else in life having a positive attitude can help make it bearable. Having a negative attitude can make it much worse. Just remember something I posted on my facebook wall the other day. "Sitting silently beside a friend who is hurting may be the best gift that we can give. So please be there for those who need you. It could be the best gift you ever give somebody in this life."

My prayers for strength and healing continue for all involved. Aggravating and frustrating, but keep the faith, friend.

He is still on my prayer list. My prayer for him is that he is cancer free once the chemo is done.

Thanks everyone. Sorry if I was pissy earlier today. It blew my mind that they didn't have a room for him yesterday after having two-three weeks to get ready. He's not the type to lay in a hospital bed and I was kinda ticked he had to spend an extra day.
