I'm sure you aren't suggesting that I take a leave of absence from my job, fly to one of these hot spots and do the police's job for them, are you?

And do you know what happened the following year?
/Tin foil hat. Smoot-HawleyTariff bill is passed, raising duties on imports. The very first FIFA World Cup is held in Uruguay. Uruguay defeats Argentina to win the title. Mahatma Gandhi and his followers march 200 miles to the salt beds of Jalalpur. The popular cartoon character "Betty Boop" makes her debut in "Dizzy Dishes." Great Depression begins. I'm assuming you're referring to Betty Boop making her debut...

no thanks.
Things are cool right here. My town has been the butt of jokes for a half-century, but we seem to make it work for ourselves here.
I've grown quite fond of this place since moving here in '87. Great Arts scene, and 'salt of the earth' types.
no bus rides for me.

That was really brutal.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

I'm going to make a prediction, based upon Human Nature: incidents like this will climb throughout the coming year, and won't level off or begin to subside until Trump supporters (or better yet, Trump himself) begin to call them out- every single time. You're so adorable in thinking they'll call each other out. Good Golly. Get a grip man. How many racistis showed to to vote for President Obama but didn't for Hillary? My only point here is it is easy to point fingers. The libs true colors are flying high right now. It looks like Trunp won the popular as well, but keep on protesting. You lost. It's over, get a grip and try to be a part of the solution.

This type of stuff is horrible. It also happened in the immediate days after Brexit. There were a lot of videos of people being horrible to Indian and Pakistani's as well as anti-semitic and white supremacist graffiti. Not sure if it has calmed down in the UK but, it seems to have left the headline news. Probably because of our own issues causing headlines.

First of all, I know why Trump won. I said it with his first speech when he announced his run for the presidency. He's not one of them.
Since 1989 when papa Bush won the presidency, we have been governed over by progressives. These progressives have slowly given away American sovereignty while enriching themselves and their cronies. Most people in this country have not gotten a raise in their wages since 2000 (figuring in inflation), the economy has been down, and the general feel is that most people feel their opinions don't matter. Compound this with being called a racist for the last 8 years because their political views do not match the party in power. Anyone who publically disagreed with the president was instantly labeled a racist. I'm sure those people didn't want 4 years of being sexist.
The majority of people that vote in the country are in the 40s to 60s. I'm one of those. I grew up in a country when it was considered a good thing to chant "USA!!! USA!!!" during an international game. When we cheered pro American values in movies. When our enemies were well know, and considered enemies by all but a small majority in this country. That has all been turned upside down. Personally, even though I never completely trusted my government, I was very pro American. I grew up a US Navy brat, worked for the Navy, and live near the largest Naval base in the world. As Reagan said all those years ago, government is the problem, not the solution.
We have watched everything from healthcare to education come under federal oversight. One size fits all does not work in clothing, nor in government. Most of us don't care what color someone is, they should be considered no more special than the rest of us. If you come here to live, you should become and American like the rest of us, instead of cloistering yourself into a community that you're trying to turn into the country you left.
It actually reminds me of a phrase I read in a book a long time ago, "Success breeds stagnation. Stagnation breeds failure". (10 points if you've read that one) It's time for a change, as we have stagnated.
The federal government is corrupt. It needs to be fixed. We, as a people, could vote all the crooks out in as little as 6 years if we tried. The media is corrupt. They are no longer impartial and a government watchdog, as they were hoped to be by our founders. Our institutions are failing, and the country has established a ruling class. This needs to change. Congress members are like diapers. They need to be changed often. Presidents get changed regularly.
I have often said that I don't hate liberals. I just think they're wrong. I guess a lot of other people think you're wrong too.

I'm not doing anything, Diam- but it's not because I'm a hypocrite. It's because nothing like this is happening in my town. I'm sure you aren't suggesting that I take a leave of absence from my job, fly to one of these hot spots and do the police's job for them, are you?
Absolutely not ... your weekends free? .... Now- if I'm sitting at a Red Lobster and I see some Af/Am hooligan harassing an old white couple over this election, that kid has a real problem on his hands... and I'll personally be that problem. I was raised right- in the Baptist church, by my town's Top Cop. (Yeah... didn't know that about me, did you?) Part of my upbringing was standing up to bullies and sticking up for the powerless. Like you said, right is right/wrong is wrong. And if a "Trump" guy harassed a black, spanish or ANYONE for that matter .... I'd be right there with U ... U in your Hillary shirt and me in my trump hat ... we could stand side by side ... See- this is what you don't get about me- I don't have 'peeps.' There are things with which I agree, and I'll say so. I speak my own mind, whether you think I play for a'team' or not. Only reason I'm having this convo with u is because since I've come here .. you've not only expressed your political views (witch i have no problem with as it is your right) but right here in this thread with the post I responded to .. u call Trump out for not saying anything to his morons that do crap like this .. I have yet to see neary a word from U asking where Hillary or oBUMa is .. NOT A WORD CLEM ... makes me wonder WHY that is .. and again .. if u have and i missed it .. i apologize .. just because i haven't seen it or don't recall it .. doesn't mean it isn't there .. i'm aware fo that ... hence the pre-aloplogy ... I don't recall seeing it .. I know in the press .. you'd think it was Trumps people basically rioting isn't he streets in more than one city EVERY NIGHT ... look at what 60 minutes did .. they played 3 seperate teasers ... not one of them addressed the BS the MORONIC Trump guys are doing .. why? You have never- never once, seen me 'gang up' on another Dawg over politics. And in case you missed it (which you most obviously did) I just finished disagreeing with Perfect Spiral not 2 posts before you launched into me. .. I saw it .. i "launched" into U for being hypocritical in the sense that as far as I've seen .. u have not asked where oBUMa and Hillary are in all this .. that has nothing to do with disagreeing with Spiral for acting like an ... well, u know .. If your mindset is to expect some sort of 'even-handedness' from me regarding my political views, you can 'pound sand' on the beach (without using your hands). If you expect me to be honest with any other poster, including you, then you'll get what you want from me. I'll agree, I'll disagree... but I won't sugar-coat stuff to make you feel better about me, and I won't lie.
You've read enough of my posts to know I don't lie either .. and i would not respect u at all if you started sugar coating things .. i am a HUGE FAN of HONESTY ... just like I'm doing with U ... I do however expect even handed ness from U when it comes to whats going in the country right now .. i believe u when u say U would not have just driven by when the black dudes were beating up the white dude in the middle of the street that's gone viral .. that was something i noticed, no one wants to talk about .. people drove by while a dude got pounded by two or three people .. Like u, i would have said to myself as i got out of my car .. THIS IS REALLY NOT SMART ... *L* .. but your damm skippy i would have got out of the car regardless of weather it was someone that looked and thought like me or not .. it could have been a spanish guy with a I'M ILLEGAL AND F U ITS MY COUNTRY SHIRT on getting beat by guys in red MAGA hats ,.. I've always thought even though we couldn't be any more different ... u a black musician , me a white jock who in my teens couldn't figure out why anyone would want to sing or play an instrument .. BORING GEEKS .. I couldn't undertand that or why all musicians were stoners .. *L* ... At our core we were way more alike than different .. we grew up in entirely different worlds but were raised alot alike and had more of the same values than most of the guys i grew up with and have known since .. So.... here's where we stand. I've been pretty respectful of you despite our differing political views- at a time when you're hinting that I might be a hypocrite. The evidence that I don't play on teams is right next door to you in this thread- so you did miss it.
Apologize or don't. The choice is yours. But if you're trying to call me out in front of the entire board, please keep this fact in mind:
Your character is on public display, as well. I apologized initially cause i said i may have missed it .. we weren't talking apples to apples .. but thats OK .. i apologized in this one if u have called oBUMa and Hillary out about the crap thats going on nightly since the election ... Just like U Clem .. I know who I am and folks that know me never question my character or my word .. they know a handshake from me is way more iron clad than any contract they'll ever enter into ... I would never call U out in front of the entire board ... not who I am .. i don't grandstand .. if i have something to say .. i'm going to say it .. u know that about me .. i've never been shy about pretty much anything .. *L* .. I saw something I didn't like and brought it up ... no more, no less ...

Speaking of the great divide.
Let's play trivia. When was the last time the GOP had the house, senate, and WH? George W. Bush, president from 2001 to 2009. During his administration, Republicans controlled both houses of Congress for a total of four years, from 2003 to 2007. And my gut tells me Trump is W 2.0 on steroids. Hears tonight he wants top secret clearances for all his kids... We elected the family apparently. 40, I'm glad you have no problem continuing your attacks on Libs, Dems, the left or whatever other names you are using. I mean it would seriously take a real man to say, we won now let's move on. Nope, you take the low road and set a wastebasket outside my door!

_____
Is some of the biggest load of horse crap ever written on this board.
Since when has it ever NOT been considered a good thing to chant USA and show patriotism by the majority in this country?
Man I'm calling you and everybody else that agrees with you out.
40's and 60's? As if you guys some exclusive claim to patriotism?
Let me tell your old ass something. If I had a dollar for every time you 40+ guys tried to take a shot at the younger people, I'd have enough money to buy a house in the economy that YOU screwed up.
Sick of this crap. Patriotism? You know how many people in my generation died in Iraq and Afghanistan? Some of my homeboys. You know how many people in my generation, civilians and military, rep this country HARD?
Man we rep the US hard as hell.
Tired of you and these other posters with your fake ass patriotism comments and young people shots.
Don't sit there crying about the state of this country when it was people in YOUR age bracket who screwed up the housing market, screwed up the economy. Y'all responsible for damn near all of the debt, yet got the nerve to talk about patriotism?
You should be charged with treason for what people in YOUR generation and older did to our economy, yet got the nerve to cry about what my generation is doing.
You claim to be a patriot but then turn around and support economy policies that reward the "every man for himself" mentality.
You claim to be a patriot but are part of the group that has called our US president a non-American and claimed he was a Muslim.
Shut up. You're not a patriot. You're just another bitter old guy stuck in nostalgia, reminiscing about the good ole days, or more accurately, what YOU thought was the good times. You're pissed because your time is almost over.
Sick of this crap and these fake ass patriots on this board. You did everything for the Navy except get a pair of balls and actually JOIN. You was a patriot right up until it was time to put up or shut up.
I got more respect for the people who didn't even bother.
I SWEAR TO GOD I hate these losers who think they are somehow more patriotic than others because of age or something stupid. so FAKE.
old people crying about young people. Surprise surprise.
Screw yall fake patriots I'm out.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”

u call Trump out for not saying anything to his morons that do crap like this .. Diam (sigh)... You've totally missed the entire point of my original post, and made it into something it was never meant to be. I'll try to connect the dots here. First, I NEVER called out Trump for NOT saying something. What I said was something quite different. Here's my point, laid out in a different way: The kind of Trump supporters who are hassling people in the streets aren't going to stop if I instruct them to. They won't stop if anyone from the L or even center tries. THEY WILL ONLY STOP IF THEY HEAR IT FROM ONE OF THEIR OWN... because it's an "us v. them" attitude that's motivating them in the first place. See how that works? Now... as I understand it, Donald Trump already HAS made statements about this, and that's to his credit. I hope he does get through to them, because this is unacceptable behavior from anyone who calls himself a citizen. The same holds true for the protesters in the streets. They won't listen to you or Trump, but they might listen to O or HRC. Same junk (us v. them) is motivating two different groups of people. Now, if O & HRC haven't said anything in public, that's on them. Ball: dropped. I haven't kept up with the latest news, so I don't if either of them HAS said anything yet. The protesters who escalate to property destruction don't get a talking to by Daddy O- they get a ride in a paddy wagon. Again, correct course of action. Here's the problem with our communication line so far, as I see it: 1. I was responding to a specific story, and giving my take on a potential solution 2. You interpreted it as partisanship, because I didn't automatically give 'equal time' to the folks who are hacking you off. But they are a different subject for a different post. So.... now you have my original intent, with clarifiers to explain. You have my appreciation for what you said about standing together in front of a problem. And you now have your required 'pound of flesh' from me regarding the protesters and Dem leadership... something I STILL think should not have been conflated/attached to a story about one-on-one bullying. Dawg.... you're exhausting.

Perhaps you could show the numbers. How many "old" people died in WW2? How many died in Korea, How many died in Vietnam.
And how many died in Afgan and Iraq.
Oh, old people haven't screwed up the economy, either.
I have friends that served in Nam. I have a good friend that served in Afghan and Iraq. They're doing just fine, thank you. But, they are the kind of people that deal with what they chose. They don't lay blame.
Dude, I'm glad you served. But truthfully, you are living in dream land when you attack others.

We are really having a disconnect here. I wish it could get fixed, but I don't know how. I'm fresh out of words here.
I'm not your enemy. I'm just trying to explain myself.
Maybe you're right. Maybe it's best to try this some other time.
Maybe someone else who's read me for years can help us out?

I will say this: agree with clem politically or disagree with him politically, that's fine. I disagree with him almost 100% politically.
He grew up different than I grew up. His life experiences are different than mine. Yet, he and I can agree on a few things.
Clem has character. I said earlier I would have his back. I'm somewhat attempting to do that now.
Here's the thing about clem. Politic wise: I disagree with him, but he's open to discussion. He disagrees with me, but he's open to hearing my opinion. (others opinions)
Diam, if you want to discuss with clemmy, do so, but do it with respect. He'll treat you the same way.

Chili's removes manager who took away vet's meal Published November 14, 2016 Associated Press DALLAS – The president of the Chili's restaurant chain says the manager who took away a veteran's free Veterans Day meal has been "removed" from the job. In a statement issued Monday, Chili's President Kelli Valade also said she personally apologized to Ernest Walker for the manager's actions and thanked him for his service to the country. Ernest Walker posted a video to Facebook on Friday of the manager removing his meal at a Chili's in the Dallas suburb of Cedar Hill. The Army veteran wrote that the meal was removed after another diner questioned the uniform Walker was wearing. Walker says the manager took his meal even after Walker showed his military ID and discharge papers. Walker says he bought the fatigues after his discharge as a tribute to his service. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2016/11/14/chilis-removes-manager-who-took-away-vets-meal.html

I have often said that I don't hate liberals. I just think they're wrong. I guess a lot of other people think you're wrong too.
But, since we're playing the numbers game, the majority of people think that you are wrong. I remember when America used to rely on using our brains, analysis, and numbers to figure out problems. The problem is today's gen x and baby boomers aren't built how they used to be. Today they'd rather think that the only problem they have is not making money. And they learned if you can fudge real numbers, you can create money, so that's what they learned to do. Take for example, Trump's pick to overhead the EPA for the transition period, Myron Ebell doesn't even hold a scientific degree. He is not a climate scientist. He's a philosopher. How can Republicans so blatantly deny this and man made climate in general? It's ridiculous. I'm not saying he should appoint Bill Mckibben, but just put on another Exxon executive like everyone else and call it a day.

Well thanks for that clarifier.
The air's so toxic in here right now, it's sometimes hard to know. Its a hell of a lot better than a Civil War.

Clem, condescending? You take this far too personally man. If there is anyone on this board that will treat you with genuine respect it is Clem. Agree with him or not, he's never attacked anyone for their views. He's never talked down to anyone on here ever, if you feel like you're being talked down to, maybe he hasn't dumbed it down enough for you. I can promise you I've read some of his stuff and felt that way myself! One thing I've learned over the years of posting on this board and the one before it: You can't judge a poster by one post. It would be much more 'sportsposter like' to not go off on a guy just because he didn't say 'this' AND 'that' in the same post.
WE DON'T NEED A QB BEFORE WE GET A LINE THAT CAN PROTECT HIM my two cents...

The air's so toxic in here right now, it's sometimes hard to know. Its a hell of a lot better than a Civil War. I have warned of a Civil War for about a year and that was no joke as you can now see. There are a lot of hurt feelings and anger on my side and there is still shock and fear on your side. Now is not the time to make peace, now is the time to vent grievances. After that will come peace or war. We Americans will make that choice in the very near future. I will pray for peace. If we can work it out on these Boards I will have hope that America can work it out too.
