i wasn't even aware that was the dynamic we were discussing.

but since you decided to bring this up for whatever reason, blacks don't have a long history of voting at all.

ya know, cause your ancestors liked to suppress and keep blacks from voting throughout history.

I agree.

It was $200 to the public in 1930. With inflation figured in that's $2,750 today.

But you said they couldn't get a Tommy Gun back then and then you said it was not affordable. Wrong on both parts.

As you know, a Porch Pirate can make that in a day.

A $2000 gun isn't affordable to people committing petty crimes...

Also, I never said they couldn't get it. You been reading more op-eds?

You are so closed-minded that you can't even begin to see where I am coming from. You automatically think the worst, when in reality, we have very similar goals. You are just too blind to accept where I am coming from.

Do you plan on hoping in the actual discussion?

Right now even Diam and 40 are outdoing you.

We have a few things going on. We got blacks and votes, 1930's Chicago, violence and weather, etc.

Feel free to add to any of those discussions.

Chicago is notorious for its high crime rates. As noted by the University of Chicago’s Crime Lab, risk factors associated with crime include gender, age, race, economic status, exposure to violence, and community instability. A recent study ventures beyond individual and community characteristics to investigate how environmental factors may also affect crime. The study identifies a significant relationship between air pollution and criminal behavior. The researchers estimate that Chicago incurs $1.8 million in annual crime-related costs—a level that more than justifies further evaluation.

Using Chicago Police Department data on over two million crimes reported from 2001 to 2012, researchers Evan Herrnstadt and Erich Muehlegger evaluated pollution intensity at the time of reported crimes, while also considering the direction and power of winds blowing from nearby interstates. The researchers looked at the principal air-quality pollutants from vehicles, including carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxide.

Results indicate that communities exposed to higher levels of air pollution experience a 2.2 percent increase in violent crime rates on average.
This research provides the first quasi-experimental evidence that air pollution has a quantifiable impact on violent criminal activity. Results indicate that communities exposed to higher levels of air pollution experience a 2.2 percent increase in violent crime rates on average. The impact of air pollution on crime was found to be weaker on days when air pollution levels were lower.

-----------------------------
I know research and science is underrated here so.... let the poo pooing begin.

Now I've heard it all.

So now it's air pollution that causes crime? Please.

I thought it was the lack of good schools. Apparently not.

I've been told is socioeconomic's - apparently not.

It's air pollution.

Damn, air pollution. Glad they don't have that in LA, or NY, or any other big city.

Seriously - who wasted money on this?

The problem is gangs. Period.

Gee... Arch can't comprehend a quantifiable impact at all, so he didn't read it....shocker!

I have a question.

Pollution was far worse in the 70's, 80's, and even 90's.

What was the crime rate compared to today, when correlated with the poverty rate in those days, and the level of public assistance available in those times, compared to today?

I'm just curious.

Always use extra gun oil when cleaning a Hi Point and never ever get it in humid conditions. Hi Points should work in the desert, if the wind doesn't blow and someone doesn't sneeze.

Actually, you do realize Tommy Guns fire .50 caliber bullets.

And are nearly as effective as a phaser at close range.

Actually it was chambered in a .45 caliber to match the 1911 pistol used by officers in the military. The stick magazine would hold 20 rounds and the drum magazine would hold 50 rounds.

Did you know here in good old Connecticut every year we rank in the top 5 richest states in the Union? Often number #1.

Yep, and Alaska too.

Our public school teachers are very nicely paid with super benefits.

For instance, a couple weeks off at Christmas and a couple months off in summer. Great medical, great pension.

Great job. I bet Alaska pays their teachers very handsomely too.

....also, those Hi Points are some seriously ugly guns. If you polish the feed ramp and only load 5 bullets per mag on those things, they can be fairly reliable. They're so hideous looking though, I could never own one.

For the cheap mans wrist rocket they may actually fire a .22 caliber with a 50% failure rate, for a hi point that's pretty good.

Never has to me, but an awful lot of people have tried to convince me it's an actual safety...and a lot of law enforcement people swear by them. I prefer the old fashioned lever on the slide. There have been more than enough reholstering and other negligent discharges of Glocks to convince me it's not a true safety.

There are hundreds of lively discussions on this topic on most firearms forums.

A 916 hi-point was my first pistol. I "gifted" it to my brother in law when he was thinking about getting into guns. He bought a CZ 2 weeks later. It's certainly an entry level gun.

I have a Jennings Nine, that later became a Jimenez. I'm afraid of that gun and am just waiting for a local law enforcement agency to do a buy back so out can get something for it before I bury it in cement and call it good.

For those skeptics: whenever we got convoy and intelligence briefings before going out on mission, they would give historical data for the month.

The chances of ambushes and IED's were significantly lower during typical winter months, and crazy higher in the summer months.

This should also be an easy concept to understand. Why?

Because by actually paying attention Arch, ya know, something you seem to not do very well, you'd look at your surroundings.

People are irritated and cranky as hell during the summer time in general, because it's hot as balls. That's not even an enlightening moment. That's common sense.

Somebody on this board either has done it themselves, or knows somebody who has just gone off on somebody for no reason other than it's hot outside.

So while climate change isn't it, the factors of weather in general certainly contribute to human behavior. Whether it be extreme heat, or extreme cold.

It's a scientific fact that weather can affect your mood. I know some people are opposed to looking things up unless Fox News or Briebart reports on it, but I promise it's a real thing.

I do pay attention bud.

Oh, I haven't watched fox news in, like, a decade or more. (national news, that is) Thanks for showing your ignorance of my intelligence. It's what I expect out of you.

If you're talking the handgun, maybe.

I have a hi point 9 mm carbine (995 carbine). It's this: a shooter. Never jammed, cold weather, hot weather, humid, dry.

What you are doing is just fine. Glad you like it. It doesn't make you an intellectual anymore than the teacher at a suburban school.

And get this - there's a hell of a lot of students that don't live in the inner city OR attend a suburban school.

Yup. The carbine is ugly, as are the handguns.

I bought my carbine to be a shooter, not a trophy gun. I have a fair amount of good looking guns. None of them shoots "better" than the carbine. It shoots what I feed it, with no complaints.

It's a "fun" gun. (with a lifetime warranty, by the way)

My S&W 22A 1 is one of the fussiest guns I've ever come across. It will feed Federal, and apparently 1 other brand I've never bought. Anything else? Misfeeds, failure to eject, etc.

Son called me a while back. He wanted to buy a gun, and he had an "in" on a Jiminez. Only $450. He wondered if he should buy it. I flat out told him "no, you are not interested in that gun. At any price, especially THAT price."

He ended up buying a brand new SW MP Shield for less.
