It depends on how many "one year deals" his contract breaks down too..
They might give him a go this season, if cutting him next year is the same penalty as this one.
IMO, he's a good dude, and has done pretty well for himself. But I have no interest in hitching my wagon to Tyrod Taylor...
At best that sounds like a life of 8-8. And while right now that sounds almost wonderful. Eventually you can't get out of it without falling back down.

People love talking about all the trade down scenarios. I guess it's because that is all were used to anymore. Where has it gotten use? Oh yeah that's right 4 wins the last 2 years. It's time to man up and make the pick at #1. It's almost a must for the FO and don't freakin think you are smarter than everyone else because quite the opposite is true.
Congratulations to our 2016 NBA Champion CLEVELAND CAVALIERS!!! Greatest comeback in sports history... Hail to the King!

jmho Well I hope not either. I just threw that out there because his name has been mentioned on this board as a consideration.

I want a real Franchise QB...so do the Browns I would guess.

+1, You thoughts make sense to me, we were 1-15, we aren't going to playoffs anytime soon, if we can get a haul for number one, trade down....NO player is a sure thing, Brown, Green, Big Money, etc....and sure thing Qbs- Weeton, Quinn, and my fav, Johnny Football-we draft a drunk...Garrett scares me for EFFORT...I'd take lots for of Nassibs-who never take plays off than " so called- super star" who plays when they want to....lastly, Mack may be hurt before SB, things happen, we need lots of quality players....GO Browns!!!!

If no player is a sure thing then why draft anyone?
Why not just continuously trade back to next year?
Maybe in 15 years we could have every pick in the draft!

JMHO, they, front office stated last year why they traded back/down....more chances to hit on POSSIBLY several players....their is a 6th rounder I'd take at QB, would you?
I'm a homer, but try to be realistic, 1-15 means we still need quality AND numbers....GO Browns!!!!

I don't agree with this. There comes a time when you have to STOP trading down, and START drafting impact players.
+1. Trading down is often mathematically favored within the metrics of analytics, and a football talent evaluator must override this if necessary.

I have to hope that the "astronomical grade" they reported we have on Garrett is higher than the value of a trade down.. I don't even think I'd consider Tennessees reported offer of 5 & 18, add another #1? Still possibly no. Seriously.

+1. Trading down is often mathematically favored within the metrics of analytics, and a football talent evaluator must override this if necessary. It also depends on how far you're moving down. Using the Titans example, trading our #1 for their #5, #18 and a 2018 2nd rounder next year, does that mean we aren't drafting an impact player at 5? Heck, if we were at #5 right now and we were talking about trading down, would the same reasoning be provided as well ("let's stay at 5 and stop trading down because we need an impact player, not quantity of players). Look, if we drop past 5, I'd probably be upset. If we did trade for the Titans suite of picks, we're still getting a Top 5 Grade A talent. Isn't that a "high impact" player? And we'd still have #12 and #18 in the first round. I'm not saying we have to trade down or that I want to, but by trading down a few spots, we're still getting an impact player and adding an extra pick as well.

I'd consider it and probably take it (assuming my scouts say I'm still getting an awesome player with #5). I suppose that's what all these hypothetical situations come down to, where are you dropping, who will be there and how do they grade out compared to your original spot. I could see why dropping to the teens would be dumb, but I'd imagine a guy at #5 would be graded pretty close to Garrett. Again, that depends on the scouting department. I wouldn't pretend to know how much Garrett is better than Hooker/Adams at #5. I don't scout college players.

I'm done with worrying about what we "could get"
We CAN get Garrett at #1.
Do it. Worry about other stuff later.

I just watched another Garrett highlight video. can't wait to see him smashing enemy QBs in a Browns uniform!
Edit: imagine an LT-type talent on our defence....

At #18 we probably get Jimmy if that who is who we want. #5 you can probably get Adams (too high here for Hooker with the surgery) or Allen or Thomas. #12 you can get Hooker if he slips that far now - or the top CB. Assuming Jimmy, Adams and top CB - three impact starters at 3 vital positions of need.
The more things change the more they stay the same.

I don't see the teams needing a QB giving up their high first rounders (unless the Texans get involved). And we'd have the best 2nd rounder. I'm only guessing though.

Both teams will want it done early too. The team getting him will want him in as early as possible so he doesn't miss any OTAs or mini camps, the Patriots so they can plan their draft around the picks they have. When was the last time a player of any significance was traded on the day of the draft?

I'm sure if its happening, the deal is basically worked out already.
And if so, we will pretty much know what's going down the week before the new league year starts anyways.

Tennessee and 5 and 18 plus is really interesting.
We'd probably get one of our Top 3 rated players. Who that is would be the question.
That's assuming 2 QBs go in the first 4 picks.
Hooker or Adams? Barnett? Tabor?
With Garoppolo here, a TE might come into play at 18?
Howard or that Miami dude?
What does Jax do at 4 with Allen on the board? They're heavily linked to Adams.
One could argue our Secondary is in far worse shape than the Front 4.
Man, we're set up perfectly to make some serious noise. Options out the wazoooo.

I don't know when--or if--Jimmy G will be traded, but I don't think anyone else on this board knows, either. I would guess that he could be traded on the first day of the new year all the way up until the day one of the draft.

Tennessee and 5 and 18 plus is really interesting. Although the Titans certainly could move up, I just don't see that happening. Based on 'need', they are very well positioned to address their secondary...

+1, Or if history/my recall is correct, a draft pick can be traded for vet days after or during draft. JMHO, Silly season starts after regular season is over for any teams not playing....you want NO ONE to know what you really want to do...NE does great job in lot less time....GO Browns!!!

I'd say day 2 or even 3. You just never know who will be there. Also a GM should be fired for trading a top pick on day 1 of the draft for Jimmy.

If you have 2 or 3 suitors going into the draft, you aren't suddenly going to have none on draft day unless he got injured or something. Also Jimmy G still has plenty of value after the draft as long as there is still a team that needs a QB. He could be traded the first day of the new year, but I'm not confident of that. There are plenty of reasons why it could drag out.

Yes he just means as the draft begins and teams draft qbs his value dramatically plummets as any team interested will likely draft a qb and move on from Jimmy as an option. What will be interesting is if Romo goes anywhere but Denver.

What will be interesting is if Romo goes anywhere but Denver. True, but if Bill doesn't trade him at all. He gets to keep him for the rest of the year and gets a high comp pick for him when he signs elsewhere. There are more teams that need QB's then there are QB's in the draft. There will be teams that will need a QB after the draft is over and they will have picks in the next year's draft to trade. Bill has all the leverage here.

The difference being, many teams need a QB now. Once the draft is over, fewer teams will be in the market for a QB. The more the need, the more competition you have for his services, thus the more teams you have to outbid to get him.
You will get more from him before the draft than after based on perceived need. The more bidders you have at an auction, the more money you get for the goods.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

It only takes two teams in need to keep the bidding war going. There will still be two teams that need a QB right up until draft day and most likely after as well. After the draft, those teams have limited options on where to find one. I'm not saying that he won't be traded well before the draft, but I would not be surprised if it drags out till draft day and Bill has no reason to panic. Panic is what we do here in Cleveland.
