So four or five teams won't drive the price up more than two teams? All righty then.

It's pretty simple logic.

Let's say there are 5 teams in the running and the price is already at a first and a 4th. One team drops out. Does the price go down? Nope, because there are still 4 other teams that need a QB and one of them is already willing to pay a first and a 4th. That team that dropped out also took another QB option off the table for the rest of the teams and if that was the only other option for one of the teams, that might have actually raised the price.

The price on Jimmy G is only going to go up from where it is now if there are multiple teams interested.

Regardless if it's even legal. I'm pretty sure NE knows what everyone's offer is already.

Hell I wouldn't doubt he and Shanahan have had a discussion about it over the last two weeks.

They most likely have. That's how those free agent signings get announced before free agency has even started.

Those other teams have a good idea if their offer is the best one on the table and are considering if they want to up their offer right now.

I guess you don't understand how it works. More competition drives up the price. Supply and demand. I'll just let others comment on it from here. Maybe they can explain it in a way you can better understand it.

j/c...

1. You don't know how many suitors there are. Teams have been known to create competition by leaking so n so is interested when there has not been any discussions.

2. I'm sure we have to listen to all options out there and did.

3. When I see Hue asking to work JG out privately and speak with him then I will know that we are serious about it.

jmho...won't know a thing until it happens wink

I don't know of any team that's privately worked out another teams player prior to a trade?

Well when you are talking about spending 60+ million and several draft picks one being a first rounder. On a guy who started 2 games and couldn't finish the 2nd. I sure hope we would at least ask to talk to him or for him to visit our facilities and meet coaches before we make the deal...wouldn't you naughtydevil

Wouldn't that technically be tampering?

That isn't going to happen. THE Pats aren't going to let us kick the tires with their player.

What happens if he gets hurt while we are working him out?? "Sorry Bill, we don't want him."

We might talk to him, but we aren't going to get him and take him through any workouts.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

Not if NE gave the permission to talk to him, but trust me, he won't be running any sprints or throwing the ball around.

The more I think about it, why would NE even do that? Makes no sense. NE might want to trade him to us but the deal gets nixed because we don't like what we hear.

We will be able to talk to his agent.

Yes more teams drive up the price, but the price doesn't drop as they drop out. It just keeps going up.

Have you ever been to an auction? Have you ever seen the price start going down as people drop out of the bidding? No as long as there are still 2 bidders it just keeps going up.

Now say something brilliant like "I guess you mean that 7=9", "I guess you are saying that dogs and cats should marry" or "I guess your statement is that the world is really flat."

That's always the best way to argue against common sense.

Not if you ask permission from the team and they consent...you don't ask the player or agent...you ask the PATs FO/BB.

Again I wouldn't be willing to give up that much in draft unless I talk to him at least and get a more accurate portrait of his mental capacity towards the game and recognition...chalk board stuff. Technique and throwing they can see from the little game tape they have.

I don't see what's the problem. I don't see BB/Pats nixing the possible trade by saying NO...

jmho nothing more. I personally don't think we will give up picks more than #33 so the trade might not happen.

I can't think of one example of this happening with a traded player.

Even working out Garoppolo, while he is still under contracat with another team, was possible (which it really isn't), do we really want Jackson basing his opinion of him off of a workout? Will the ground move beneath his feet?

Getting Garoppolo in for a visit is not realistic.

Well then don't expect him to come here in a trade. Its the smart thing to do is what I'm saying...realistic is nothing anyone says here comes true...

So because we can't do something that no team ever does, we shouldn't expect a player to be traded to the team?

Did Jamie Collins come in for a visit before we traded for him?

Sorry man. The Pats would be stupid to allow us to bring him in, and I have news for you. The Pats aren't dumb.

I can see allowing us to talk to his agent about what it will take to get him to sign an extension, but we aren't going to get to work him out. The only time we are going to get to say no to the deal is before any trade is made, or just after he fails physical, and throwing the ball and running around on a football field isn't a part of the process. The only running he will be doing is on a treadmill to monitor his cardiovascular.

I'm saying it would not be smart to buy something sight unseen so to say...that's all. This is not a similar circumstance like so many other trades. Its a young QB not even 2 games worth of experience. If we are talking a 3rd rounder ok. Stop being a smart ass and just think about this.

I am not trying to fight with anyone or be smart. I am simply stating that what you suggested we do, workout a player who is currently under contract for another team, is not realistic at all and not worth even discussing.

Can you tell me ever when a supposed Franchise QB with less then two games experience that before their first contract runs out is being TRADED so we can compare apples to apples.

Your reality does not exist in this situation. Its a unique situation that will require an a lot in return.

You really think us with two first round picks that the PATS are drooling for would not give us permission to speak with JG at our facilities and do some chalk board and other interview stuff?

Here are some notable trades that were around QB's.

Brett Farve
Eli Manning
John Elway
Dante Culpepper/Brad Johnson

Favre...was Wolfe's top QB the year before and got snatch before they could draft him...The very next year after Atlanta??? was disatisfied from what they got was traded for...much different that our situation right now. This is not the very next season with us going for him.

Eli and Elway were due to refusing to report to the teams that drafted them.

Culpepper and Johnson, Culpepper was becoming a disappointment with Minnesota if I remember. Lots of data and NFL game day film which is not available on JG.

I rest my case.
cfr you might be right but to say it with certainty is just wrong. tongue

Take your pick for greatest need in top 2 rounds until your situation improves. Mix in 3 FA's. Play with some of this other stuff in later rounds. I do not want to trade down, experimental (what have we got? gotta see more!), a non-playing project like Kessler, and more of the same. No guarantees. Get your best bet for a year or two. We have missed a fleet and a few more of boats horsing around in the draft.

The closest Comp. is Cassel, Had less then a season played, was a young QB, and just for good measure came from the same team.

It's funny. People asked for examples of such trades and they were provided. Now people are trying to qualify the trades and show how they don't apply. Funny how that works.
