When it comes to the "intangibles" the issue becomes what is verifiable?

That is why I prefaced Dabo as his coach.

No coach is going to throw one his guys under the bus.

At the same time when it comes to this it is extremely hard to get verifiable information.

In the case of Manziel there were plenty of references about Manziel and his issues. The one that stood out to me came from his father. He flat out stated that his son had major issues.

The top three guys in this case all seem to be clean. The key as stated will be how he clicks with Hue.

Add that article to the fuel with the "cryptic" Tweet haha. IMO, we shouldn't draft/trade for a Qb until we have a stable offensive line. We'll just crush their mental mindset along with their bodies. If I had a penny for every ice pack used on some Browns Qb last year, I probably would start crunching the numbers to see if I could retire lol.

This is music to my ears. Let the dude bust with the 49ers instead.

You know what, taking the fanboy glasses off, CC has a point. With the state of the franchise today, you could not pay me enough to get abused in such a dysfunctional system embedded with a culture of losing. Some view players like Eli and Elway as narcisistic A -holes when they make those decisions to say, 'nope, I'm not playing there.' Until something starts trending in the right direction with the Browns, we can expect more of this within the sporting community.

Players finding success after the Browns in the last 4 years:

Dion Lewis
Jabaal Sheard
Alex Mack
TJ Ward
Taylor Gabriel

But, some say we cannot draft good players.

Deshaun Watson said it's 'false information' on him not wanting to play for the Browns
FRED GREETHAM

DeShaun Watson was on the NFL Network Thursday and he disputed the fact that he doesn't want to become a member of the Cleveland Browns

Deshaun Watson still would like to be the top pick in the NFL Draft--or the 12th pick.

Despite turning down an invitation to play in the Senior Bowl and foregoing a chance to make an impression on Hue Jackson and the Browns coaching staff last week, Watson spoke out on the NFL Network on Thursday saying the reason he skipped the Senior Bowl had nothing to do with the Browns.

"That's wrong. That's false information," Watson said refuting he wouldn't want to come to Cleveland. "I talked to Hue Jackson, we had a great conversation right after the national championship game and I told him, 'Hey, this is what I'm thinking about' and he understood everything. I talked with my family, my agent, my trainer, all the coaches at Clemson, and it was just best for me to go ahead and get started in the draft process."

After the national championship win over Alabama, Watson had decided to not play in the Senior Bowl and begin his training for the NFL Combine and upcoming draft in California.
The Browns have the first pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, as well as the 12th overall pick.

I didn't. It was more of the same decision some kids make on whether or not to participate in the Combine. Watson's situation with the Senior Bowl was no different.

If he were your son, what would you tell him....I'd say, don't take ANY hits you don't need to take until they "show you the money".....I'd let him run, throw, jump, get weighed...etc....but no contact till signed....like others have stated, you only get drafted ONCE....do I want him, he beat best team in college...almost TWICE....he's a winner. Is he JORDAN, no, but he's a player....much better prospect than Johnny Football, he has none of Johnny's baggage....GO Browns!!!!

Anyone could tell it was false info the moment it happened. The kid just balled out on the biggest stage. An encore would do him no justice. His agent would have been fired if he let Watson play in the Senior bowl.

Some might point out that this came against South Carolina, a team having a down year, with the score already 28-0. But when working through the evaluation of a player it’s important to observe him in various situations, whether at home or on the road, against top competition, or even against a lesser opponent. You want to see the player comport well in a game he is expected to do well in, to not only have success but to do the little things that might not matter that night, but that will matter in the future. This drive showed that from Watson, from the quick moves in the pocket to the progression reads to the subtle looks downfield to manipulate defenders when it wasn’t necessary. These are all things he will need to do on Sundays, and the mere fact he was doing them on a sleepy Saturday night against an overmatched opponent speaks volumes about the player Watson is – and can be.

Good article. All film breakdown and no quick media sound bite takes.

In the Watson film thread https://www.dawgtalkers.net/ubbthreads.php/topics/1207770/edromeo#Post1207770 I've been highlighting some of these same strengths in Watson's game that usually go unmentioned.

Could a mediocre QB beat Alabama?

Offcourse not, the lack of field vision, and other stuff like that is the generic crap people make about QB's they don't like.

JFF beat Bama in 2012 (29-24) and almost beat them again in 2013 (49-42).

Not exactly known for being effusive, the former Northern Illinois coach gushed over the potential of a natural leader with 38 career starts who carried Clemson to a national title. To Doeren, believing in Watson is elementary.

"The intangibles he had, you can't coach that into a guy," Doeren told the Tribune. "If you're going to invest millions, invest in that guy's character because obviously Deshaun has enough tools to win. ... Look at (Cowboys rookie) Dak Prescott. People said he couldn't do certain things and the guy's intangibles were crazy.

Personally, I'm taking a guy who is an experienced winner who has intangibles any day over some guy who hasn't done it a ton but looks good at the NFL combine."

Doeren stressed his praise for Watson had nothing to do with his opinion of Trubisky and Kizer, who lost games to N.C. State in 2016. He similarly respects Trubisky and Kizer and, while refusing to rank the quarterbacks, shared what he recalled from their games

Can you tell us one thing that Tyrod Taylor is better at, one skill set that he has, that is better than JFF? When I broke them down I couldn't find one.

I don't know...
Footwork, throwing motion, processing speed, intelligence, deep accuracy, effort and pretty much everything else.

JFF isn't a great benchmark to compare any QB to.

Not according to the scouts...

http://www.nfl.com/draft/2014/profiles/johnny-manziel?id=2543462

Actually JFF was considered by most a much better prostect than Garappolo...

From what I saw JFF play,I had a good impression. I actually thought he could have been a very good QB if he came out 20 yrs ago.

JFF problems, in my opinion, were not on the field of play...

And his NFL.com scouting report overrides his actual play on the football field in what way?

If we're going to come out and say that we do not care about protecting the ball, I'd just try to get Derek Anderson back. Won't cost us a first.

I really don't care for Bill Livingston's writing style but he has been a Plain Dealer sports writer? reporter? whatever it's called forever. Just thought I'd add his two cents in for the thread.

Bud Shaw is worse than him. I find most of his articles unreadable. I TRY, believe me I try! banghead I like Pluto and Mary Kay a zillion times more than him.

I didn't read the article and try not to deal with media narratives.

I've always had Watson as the top QB in this draft. Where he gets drafted is any bodies guess but as far as ranking QBs goes he's at the top foe me.

I would never take a QB 1st over all that barely took a snap under center, and when he did was horrible...I don't get the Watson love

It's the typical "hype up a QB because he's a QB" that you get every draft.

And people can't really compare him to Prescott either, because he got placed in the perfect situation. Beast offensive line, beast backfield, great targets. Just about anybody would of been successful. We could of drafted him in the second round, and he probably would of fared about as well as Kessler.

Why does he need to take a snap under center in the NFL?

(I wouldn't draft Watson either.)

Clemson QB Deshaun Watson had 13 passes batted at the line of scrimmage, most in this draft class.

I think the narrative goes in the opposite way. He has problem scanning the field, problems decision making, too much ints, not having touch, etc...

Deshaun, IMHO, is has good has it gets (apart from the Luck type of QB's)

I also think its clear to who ever saw him playing. The only questions to me is if he fits Hue philosophy (to prevent what hapened to Vince Young and RG3) and if he has off field issues.

Please go through his film and tell us why you don't think Deshaun is worthy of a #1 pick...

QB is the most important position on team, so its only normal for the best QB to be considered for the #1 pick.

The same goes for pass rushers...

What I don't get is the love for CB's while WR's are downgraded and Tackles...
