"I am willing to bet he was more upset with himself that we were !"

No doubt.

Though don't forget, we were pretty upset.

Well, actually maybe not - us Cleveland fans were on such a high last year (until football season).

And it seemed the Indians were battling The Curse more than the Cubs. (losing all those starting pitchers)

We are so lucky to have Francona. I hope he retires as the Indians Head Coach. He's only 58 years-old.

And he’s possibly the best mind in baseball.

Right now I’ll bet he’s thinking about what he could have done differently last year and what he’ll do differently this year.

Oh by the way.

Nice formula last night.

Pretty much the way it was drawn up. (In the case of the Indians Starter not dominating):

Plenty of Encarnacion, and the ole’ Miller/Allen one-two to close.

EE starting to heat up!

Last 4 games:
5-17
2 homers
4 RBI
1.177 OPS

On this date last year, EE had 9 homers, same as this year. He finished with 42.

In tonight’s Tribe lineup:

The number #1, #4 & #5 batters are hitting:

.216, .218 and ,215 respectively. (Kipnis, Santana & Encarnacion)

But wait, the #8 & #9 batter are hitting .137 & .200.

Let’s hope Bauer gets to bat.

At least batting average isn't relevant.

It's been raining all day... shocked it hasn't been postponed yet. I think it's a big game for Trevor and hopefully his continues his little streak of pitching good he's started his recent games.

Tough loss tonight. The double play was called to end the game and then overturned.

JMHO, I think we're coming to the end of the Josh Tomlin era here in C-Town.

Tomlin has potential.

He just needs something.

He has superb control.

For his career (as of today) he has 493 SO to 111 BB. ( 4.4 SO-to-BB).

That’s a really, really good ratio

Any SO-to-BB over 3-to-1 is decent.

He just needs to - I don’t know - give into hitters at times?

Too many homers. (1.5 HR/9 innings) Way, way too much.

I think this is actually a good sign:

The biggest preseason strength of the Tribe was clearly starting pitching, but currently,

"...the Indians have the highest starters ERA in the league at 4.98."

1) The starters are still pretty good,
2) I know it's too early but Clevinger is clearly an early front runner for "Sophomore of the year" - (he pitched 3 1/3 innings too much last year for rookie this year)
3) After 3 weeks off, Ace Kluber is nearly back.

Tomlin simply doesn't have a big league arm to be a starter...he needs to go to the BP..nothing about him on the mound gives me confidence..its not a matter of if he gives up a homer, just a matter of when and how many

Potential? The dude is 32 years old. But I agree with you, his control is amazing. Just nothing on the fastball to deviate from other off-speed pitches. This has been the issue with him his whole career......now we are at the point where he is older and still not getting it done consistently. I think his days are numbered.

With Salazar, you can talk about potential. Kluber had his struggles early on as well.

Salazar is the same with me, I've never liked his stuff, I thought he would be best as a setup/closer. Subsequent times through the lineup and they have him figured out, he gets inside his own head and can't make in game adjustments.

Cleveland Indians thinking about moving starter Danny Salazar to the bullpen | cleveland.com
http://www.cleveland.com/tribe/index.ssf/2017/05/cleveland_indians_thinking_abo.html#incart_2box

CLEVELAND, Ohio - It sounds as if the Indians have found a solution to their rotation problem that does not include optioning Mike Clevinger to Class AAA Columbus.

Reading between the lines of what manager Terry Francona said following Saturday's 5-3 loss to Kansas City, it appears Danny Salazar could be headed to the bullpen. The roster crunch is on because Corey Kluber is ready to be activated and Francona said before Saturday's game that he most likely will start Thursday against the A's.

Salazar (3-5, 5.50) took the loss Saturday as he walked a season-high five batters in 5 1/3 innings.

"We'll put our heads together and see what's the next best step for him," said Francona. "I think he's probably searching a little bit too."

Salazar has not pitched six complete innings since April 29. He's 1-3 with a 7.33 ERA (19 earned runs in 23 1/3 innings) in his last five starts. He's allowed 30 hits and 14 walks, while striking out 31 in those five starts.

When asked if Salazar was going to be taken out of the rotation, Francona said he was not going to tell reporters before talking to Salazar.

"I think we want to sit down and talk through things," said Francona. "We want to help him. We want to help our team. That's not the proper way to ever make a decision. We're not going to make the decision in here and you guys go tell him."

Salazar's next scheduled start would be Thursday against Oakland. But Francona said Saturday morning that Kluber is most likely in line for that start.

Danny Salazar on his recent struggles and a possible move to the bullpen
When asked about possibly going to the bullpen, Salazar said, "That's not in my plans, you know, but I have no choice. I have to do it."

Salazar had to pitch out of a bases-loaded jam in the first inning after Jason Kipnis allowed leadoff hitter Alcides Escobar to reach on an error. He allowed just one run.

Francona complimented him, but added that Salazar had too many runners on base during his 5 1/3 innings.

Salazar said he's been working on things, including his confidence, and feels better on the mound.

"For me today it was huge, especially to get out of that first inning," said Salazar. "Those are the kind of things I've been working on."

Salazar said he's not expecting a miracle.

"I don't expect to go from one outing and be 100 percent different the next outing," said Salazar. "That's something that takes a little bit of time."

Terry Francona looking to help Danny Salazar through struggles
Salazar said in previous starts this season that he's had trouble stopping rallies. He said when he started allowing hits he sometimes lost confidence in his stuff.

"I think my confidence is getting there," said Salazar. "Especially when it comes to my mix of pitches and not shaking off too much - trusting my catchers. I think I'm getting there."

Salazar leads all Indians pitchers with 28 walks. He said his problem Saturday was "rushing."

"I've been rushing (my pitches)," said Salazar. "I've been working on staying calm on the mound. I've been trying to take my time and make my pitches.

"I'll make one good pitch. The next one I'm rushing again. That is what is happening right now. But I'm getting there."

Salazar has never made a relief appearance during the regular season in the big leagues. He did make two relief appearances last year in the World Series.

I can't remember( no jokes ) ever seeing a team choke as much as this one has the last few years " With bases loaded " . It has become something of a curse !

I still say there is something missing in the club house .

Really nice outing by Tomlin. He made one bad pitch, but that was it.

The Indians played great situation baseball today, and got the runners in when they had opportunities. Nice game. Hopefully it will be the start of a nice run.

These guys better wake up the lumber soon. Seems like all we can do is play long ball. Gear up the wins already.

Go, Tribe!

Geez that was a quick 5 runs.

The type of scoring we were expecting in the off season.

Wait until we start having those two week stretches of 90 degrees every day.

I suspect the Tribe will really heat-up.

Francona’s a genius.
