Based on that gif, If Kizer sees him, gets rid of it quickly and hits him in stride at the 10, it's a TD, whether the safety was "baiting" him or not. I'm sure that's one he would love to have back.

Kizer has potential, but this tape reveals how raw he is.
The posted article about him being a pro-bowl QB...
When I look at him the first thing that comes to mind is Jameis Winston (for some reason). How does he compare? I'm not a big Winston guy, but I do appreciate the things he does well, and his upside.
I think its obvious that Kizer would have to really work, really allow himself to be coached, for the next three years to be at Winston's level. JMHO. Kizer appears to have more mobility, but Winston's pocket presence is light years ahead of where Kizer currently is. Accuracy, mechanics, are obviously also issues.
That isn't saying I don't appreciate the fact he gives us a chance on every play, and can move the team. I do. He does some things well. He gives some of us hope and the desire to watch.
Is he really coachable? Humble? Can he mature emotionally? He's the face of a two billion dollar franchise. I'm sorry, but turn the freakin ballcap around. You're a pro. This is your shot.

He's a 21 year old kid with a baseball cap on backwards. How old are you for that to bother you? As long as he's committed to being the best he can be and helping the team be the best they can be, he can wear his baseball cap backwards all he wants....... I hardly think that a backwards baseball cap shows a lack of professionalism. He's living his dream, let him enjoy it. It's not like he's Colin Kaepernick showing up at the ESPYs in sneakers and an unbuttoned shirt. Although, honestly, he could wear whatever he wants as long as we win games........

I think the fact that he's been widely reported - and coach Hue stated it in a presser - that Kizer is at the facility at 5:00 every day is a pretty good sign he wants to get better and learn the position and how to play in the NFL. I'll take that over wearing his cap the 'right' way round.
The comparison to Winston isn't a bad one ... I think JW is going to be an excellent QB in the NFL for a lot of years. And I remember his rookie season and I do not remember him having pocket presence. I remember him looking like a talented rookie. Comparing JW in his 3rd year to Kizer's first game isn't fair on any level.
The more things change the more they stay the same.

The greatest coach of all time dressed pretty sharp when he coached for us at the beginning of his head coaching career. He looked like a pro.
I'll gladly back off and accept gangsta signs, tats, dreads, backward ballcaps, hating America, you name it once Kizer becomes the greatest...
The greatest...
How about once he becomes a real pro?

Look at some old photos - the fans even dressed sharp. Times have changed for pro athletes, and fans. Some may like it, some may hate it. It is what it is.

I Comparing JW in his 3rd year to Kizer's first game isn't fair on any level. I must of misspoke or wasn't understood. My point was, in three years, would Kizer give us what Winston is giving Tampa? My point was, he would really have to work hard to reach that level. That is what I was trying to communicate. Winston's pocket presence, his ability to play quarterback from the pocket was already advanced when he was playing at Florida State. I was under the impression that was his best attribute.

Got it.
I agree.
I knew I'd take some flak for the ballcap comment. I don't care.
Hey rookie, this isn't middle school. You are the freakin starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns. Don't be quoted talkin "Tom Brady" this and that and then force me to listen to my wife asking why he is giving off such an immature presence.
Having a professional mentality wins Super Bowls. In Parcell's words "you have to decide whether you are going to be a pro." Super Bowls are won by guys named Brady, Manning, Brees, Wilson, Super Bowls are won by pros.
Even Johnny freakin football wore his cap forward. That pretty much says it.

I wonder, if no matter how well Kizer plays this year and the Browns are in the position to do so, do they take a top tier QB (like Sam Darnold if he comes out) in the first round of the draft or do they pass on QBs and stick it out with Kizer

Kizer is the best we have right now, but he's not nearly the prospect Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson or Baker Mayfield are. The QB class in 2018 is stacked. I have nothing against Kizer but it's why I'm so puzzled we took him at all. If you were going to tank and get a QB - 2018 was the year to do it, not 2017. Alas we screwed that up too.

We should have enough draft ammo next year to get a top prospect. Going to be interesting to see what happens. A lot of time between now and then.

Agreed. My biggest fear is our owner... and how he'll handle another losing season with this FO/coaching staff- and his super-raw QB. Will he scrap this project once again? Or will he give this FO a number of years to establish a culture and team persona? I'm soooo tired of the "2 years and out" approach to football FO legitimacy. I would really like to experience a preseason team with a majority on names that I recognize from the previous year or two. Kid has all the measurables. Does he have the intangibles? I guess that's what this year is all about.

It's not the hat that dropped his passes. It might explain a lack of timing and throwing late on routes. End zone picks really infuriate fans. This turnover factory and sack robot needs to get his head around a game that is closer to manageable for him now. Running game might help a lot. Seems just a silly random jumble on O. Some of what needs to change is the play mix. Use the middle a bunch more, we need some misdirection, shorten one route up every time. My fear is he gets truly snakebitten by what he is doing while he is "learning" and really stops developing as much as we need him to do. My, but we need a win, a RT, and not Britt.

It's something that can be overcome, but I wonder if we rushed him into this and if he would have benefited by honing his mechanics for a longer period of time. I am more worried about how slow his reads are. You simply cannot hold the ball that long in the NFL. Sacks, fumbles, picks because you are being pressured, holding penalties, and injuries can occur. I'm worried too about the owner. We already have fans grumbling about Hue. Last night, after reading some of the comments on the board, I realized it would be in my best interests to not even care anymore. I'm not sure if I can get to that point, but....

Given the QB talent Hue had to pick from, Kizer was the best at running scripted plays in practice, separating himself from Hogan and Kessler.
But now, the Browns, with this very young team and even younger QB group, lack NFL experience. Starting your starting career against the Steelers and Ravens is a tough challenge for any QB coming out of college.

Big issues are...
When the WRs are open, Kizer is not hitting them.
We have no WRs that can get open consistently and we neglected this position big time when we knew it was a downfall of ours.
Looks like a more comfy Weeden, but holds on the ball the same.

I am more worried about how slow his reads are. Not just his reads, there's an issue with the time it takes to get rid of the ball. Almost a 1, 2 count from the time he sees his receiver until he cocks and throws. He has to decide and throw much more quickly.

Kizer is looking more and more like Weeden version 2. He really has a lot to work on but there is still time for him to develop. Hogan to me is the best QB on this team for right now and should be starting.

Hogan to me is the best QB on this team for right now and should be starting. If Hue calls a time out 40 secs before the half, we could have won this game if he sticks with Hogan. Instead the clock burns down and Hogan is hurried into an interception. We would have had 1 timeout and could have tied the game. But NOOOOO! Hue blows it for the team by rushing Hogan into an interception. Horrible coaching. The players aren't as bad as Hue is making them look!
Exciting football will be back in Cleveland this fall!

We have all seen that DK has the physical tools to be a franchise QB for us. I saw his presser from today and to me he seems like a smart kid who has a good attitude and wants to learn. He has a good teacher in Hue IMO. He is just going to take time too develop. I just hope he is not being rushed.

I don't know Homewood Dog to me you can either put the ball where it needs to be or you can't. DK has yet to show me any decent ball placement skills on a consistent basis. The reason Hogan was moving the chains is because he is just way better at where he leads the receiver with the ball. Sure Hue can make it improve but honestly at this point I don't see any way for it to improve all that much.

Honestly when we drafted hi. I was scratching my head. Kid needed another year in college. If we didn't take hi. Where we did we still probably could have gotten him on the 4th round. At this point I would go with Hogan. At least he knows how to play from under center

I EXPECTED a game like that from Kizer to happen fairly quickly. And there it was. I also expect one of those HOT games soon. The 300 yard no picks type game where he's comfortable, working from a clean pocket and hitting on a couple deep ones for TDs. The game has yet to slow down for him. It's THAT simple. But yeah, let's pull him for the backup. Lmao. Browns Fans. Smh.

Seems as though we're not giving Kizer any kind of Check Down option underneath very often. We need to get a RB floating underneath more often and possibly bring Johnson back into the backfield to do the same thing. Waaaay too much looking deep going on. Just move the chains.
