Maybe we get a QB AND Barkley. Houston's pick keeps getting better and better.

you don't take a running back 1st overall..that's pretty much rule of thumb. You sure as hell don't when you don't even have a QB yet

Our #1 pick has to be QB.

You take BPA I don't give a damn what position he plays outside of kicker or punter... taking the 6th best player in the draft(Rosen) makes as much sense as taking Patrick Mahomes over Myles Garret last year at number one. We suck because lack of talent, when your as bad as we are you MUST take the most talented player at the #1 spot... taking Rosen. Darnold, or Mayfield at #1 is called "reaching"...its when you take a lesser talented player over a better player because of perceived need...reaching NEVER works out. Im telling ya, you don't overthink this...you turn in the card on Barkley and don't look back. it was the right decision to take Garret last year(even though i didn't agree with it at the time) its the right call to take Barkley this year and not reach...when you start reaching...you get yourself into trouble. there are a few Fa QB this year that can get us into the double digit win column with Barkley and a few pieces in FA...don't reach on a QB...its a big mistake...these kinds of reaches are why we are in the position we are in right now with failed picks...

Berkeley is going either #1 or #2, I have very few doubts on this at the moment. If Jim Brown validates the pick, I say #1 to the Browns

We cna get a QB at 3-4(where Houstons pick probably will be) San Frna ins't going to take a QB, NY is high on Darnold...that leaves Rosen or Mayfield for the Browns at 4...but they gotta take Barkley at one...he is the concensus BPA in the entire draft on every single experts board...you cna't pass on that kinda talent...not when your as bad as we have been the last two years...he will be a huge talent infusion for us. We need it and it gives our Qb we take atr 3-4 some actual talent to help them succeed.

I think you just said the opposite of what is true...
"Reaching" for Wentz worked out for the Eagles, as did Goff for the Rams. Just because you think Barkley is BPA that doesn't make it so. We will and should take a QB. A lot of people like Rosen, I like Mayfield, either will suffice or another QB as decided by Dorsey, but QB must be the first pick.

yep, if we are there at 4 then pick up Barkley, or if he's gone, fitz. Funny people use Elliot to validate picking Barkley #1, Elliot was picked 4th, I'd be fine picking Barkley anywhere after #1 overall, QB is much more important than RB, and makes no sense to gamble not getting your QB. Don't take it at #1 and someone jumps over you before your next pick and takes your guy..why risk it

Sorry but regardless of their impact, they weren't a #1 overall, RB will never be picked before a QB. Elliot was #4, which is where houston's pick is anticipated. Getting Barkley there with the QB we get at #1, then yeah, you just had a helluva draft. But getting your QB #1 is more important.

Yes. The best quarterback in the draft won't be there at 4, while Barkley (assuming he's the pick) will have a much higher probability of being there. Browns and giants will most likely draft QB. Not certain but most likely...leaving Barkley at 3 to the Colts. They may trade the pick and who knows maybe pick 3 is even QB, leaving the best player not a QB in our lap.
Personally I'd take Fitzpatrick over Barkley.

Personally I'd take Fitzpatrick over Barkley. Normally I would also, but I think Barkley is special, and IMHO we are closer to having a competitive O than a D. With a "bona fide" QB and a difference maker at RB I think most of the pieces in the O are set (providing Gordon stays clean). From what I'm seeing on D, we are still a long way of being competitive. CB's, Safeties, ILB.... I also think that if we take the QB, we must take the RB... Also I don't think we have a clear cut #1 QB, like Luck. At this time you can make a case for at least 3 QB's.

I am hoping we take him, too. He's so accurate. He can read coverages and goes through his progressions quickly. He has an elite arm and sound mechanics. He is 6'4".
I can see people not wanting him, but I do think that tab intended for the thread to be about what to do at the QB position and not make it a Barkley thread.

I'd like a trio of Rosen, Kizer and a clip board carrying mentor veteran. Who that would be I don't know. But I'd like him to be able to guide through the ups and downs of the NFL, preparation, good defensive reader etc.

I believe if we draft Rosen, who looks pro ready or Mayfield, who has played a ton of football. we do not bring in a vet. Possibly a mid level Id actually prefer they pursue McCown to help these players adjust. I like Kizer but even with a significant jump in reading the field, I think he will be streaky at best and against tough defenses he will revert to poor mechanics and accuracy issues.

If we draft Rosen (and this shouldn't even be debatable) I would still bring in a vet like Chase Daniel who is good enough to play a few games if Rosen isn't ready at first, but not good enough to have ideas of being the long term answer......if that makes any sense.
I do not want guys like Keenum or McCarron who are going to have illusions of being the long term guy. There is a franchise QB at the top of the draft and we should take him and make every decision after that based on ensuring his long term success...jmho.

The more I look at it, the more i think Darnold and Rosen are out for us. Rosen shut down rumors he was declaring the other day, Rosen is considering going back to UCLA because we are at the top of the draft. Darnold is considering staying at USC because we are at the top of the draft If either Rosen or Darnold actually do declare, I fully expect their agents to tell the Browns behind closed oors not to draft them as they will not play here, they do not want to play here. Drafting them risk another John Elway/Eli Manning situation. Lets be realistic here, take the Brown and Orangle colored glasses off, if your on the outside looking in as a young Qb in college there is no way in hell you are going to want to come to this toxic environment that goes through Qb like socks. the writing is on the wall, neither of those guys want to come to this inept franchise. Drafting them is a mistake. The more I look into this, the more i think the Browns have or will be told privately not to draft Rosen or Darnold by their agents, and the Browns will either take Barkley, Mayfield, Jackson, or Trade out. this is why i think a Trade with Washington with Cousins will make much more sense in the months leading up to the draft. it gives us a franchise QB, it frees us up to take a guy like Barkley, and Cousins is building a new house in MI that is only like 5 hours from Cleveland. i think Cousins is open to coming here as long as its a longterm deal with a decent coahc in place(whihc is why i think Jackson is done) I guess we will soon see. Regardless the Vibes i see is neither Rosen or Darnold want to play here in Cleveland and they most vertinaly do not want drafted by us, and if we do draft one them, Rosen in particular, i could see pulling a John Elway and flat out refusing to play here.the young men don't want to commit career suicide before they ever get a chance to get started.

Well your first response to me in months... thanks for the insult
You never know when a team will make wholesale changes its a fairly new staff and possibly they will wish to reboot. This is considered to be a strong QB draft class.
We would have to give up a lot for him. Will they? probably not. I like him a lot. I'm guessing if the Giants can serve up Eli possibly the Chargers would want to get a young Franchise Prospect.
But again thanks for the kind words...just continue to "Ignore" me. I know when you make a thread the ignore is sort of waved. But you haven't changed you are still a total ...ummm clipboard fan. Thanks for your contribution to this thread. Now go find me some stats or an article...

I just went and put out the possible options not Likelihood that it would happen.
Any team that does not make the playoffs for 4 years now and has a 36 year old QB who has taken a beating. Just might go the route of the Eagles and Rams.
I would not put Rivers in the same class as Brady.
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!

Bring in Alex Smith to groom Mayfield with Matt Nagy as Head coach. Make sure you get Barkley and we now win the AFC north. Not too difficult at all!!! Go Browns!
Exciting football will be back in Cleveland this fall!

It would be a monumental surprise if Rosen doesn't declare. He's not a fit for the Chip Kelly scheme, and his comments about college make me think he's ready to get paid......plus I'm fairly certain he graduated early so he has his degree.

I don't think there's any chance of a "bridge QB"... We're drafting a QB at the top of the draft, even if he shouldn't be a day 1 starter - he likely will be. I would love to have McCown back here, I'm befuddled that he wasn't here this year. Either him or one of the low key vets such as mentioned by Vers. Hue has enough on his plate, he needs some help in the QB room.
Rosen looks like he fits the bill and will go into camp and have to battle Kizer for the job - the way it should be.
FWIW, I don't understand how it matters who is drafted #1 or #4 if we want Barkley... If you know the Giants or 49ers will snatch either player you take him at #1. Fitzpatrick is the right pick along with the QB, but I'm starting to ponder how much easier it might be to develop a QB if you have an "all-world" RB in the backfield.
HERE WE GO BROWNIES! HERE WE GO!!

Let's assume Rosen and Darnold don't come out. What would we do then? Take Allen or maybe Mayfield? Opinions? That's something that scares me a little. Rosen took to twitter a couple weeks ago and had this to say; Please stop reporting false news. I have not made any significant decisions and do not plan on it any time soon. All you guys are doing is making me answer calls and texts from concerned friends and family members. Matt Miller reported hearing that when Rosen makes his decision, it will be Colin Cowherd who gets the story, and anything that doesn't come from Cowherd is mere speculation. This, too, worries me. Colin is one of his favourites, and a proponent of him not playing for the Browns - Cowherd has said Rosen and Darnold should both return to school if the Browns are picking first. And staying makes sense. He could do an awful lot of good with Chip Kelly, and UCLA could be a much, much better team next year. If he's enjoying college life, it could be a great year for him. Especially given his continued improvement already - He'll just flat out be a better quarterback next year. As for Darnold, this is something we've long known he's considering, and reports suggest he's leaning towards staying. If that happens, I can't say I'm sold on Mayfield. His system scares me in terms of his preparedness for the mental aspects of pro football. I worry about his arm strength. I think he's a little overrated as an athlete. A phenomenal college quarterback, but I don't feel I can personally say it will translate to the NFL with any degree of certainty. Amongst the big boys, I'm not sure I see him being who his is. As far as Allen, I'd pass. He's Brock Osweiler, in my opinion. He reminds me a lot of Christian Hackenberg at Penn State; Tremendous gifts, but always falling short of what those gifts should produce. If Rosen and Darnold declare, and I was GM, I'd probably stick with the plan that the board seems to mostly agree on - Acquire a veteran through a sign/trade, let him compete with Deshone Kizer, build up the team. Kizer is either going to beat out a savvy veteran, or a savvy veteran will be starting. Seems win-win. I honestly don't know if I'd advocate drafting anyone not named Rosen or Darnold. I can't convince myself that we should get the "top quarterback" when he'd be the top quarterback only because the best two aren't in the draft.

When your drafting #1 overall you take BPA NO MATTER WHAT REGARDLESS OF POSITION. I completely disagree. You have nothing without a QB. I hope we get a bridge QB. But I also hope that we draft a QB at 1 My guy is Josh Rosen. Much better choice than Mitch Trubisky was last year, and we don't even have to trade up for him. As for a bridge QB, I'd love Alex Smith. But at 34 years old next year, i doubt he'll want to come here when we'll be getting a QB first

As of today ... 12-18-17 Cleveland Browns 0 - 14 pick 1 New York Giants 2 - 12 pick 2 Indianapolis Colts 3 - 11 pick 3 Houston Texans 4 - 10 pick 4 San Francisco 49ers 4 - 10 pick 5 I'm not sure what the tie breakers are .. but I do know that the Texans still have to play the Colts in their last game. The Colts won the first game between the teams. http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2017/12/where_the_browns_pick_in_the_2_4.html

If we wind up with the first and fourth picks, I could see this going down. 1). Rosen/ Cle 2). Darnold or Mayfield/ Giants 3). Barkley or Minkah/ Colts 4). Barkley or Minkah/ Cle from Hou cool we could have both Rosen and Barkley or Rosen and Minkah. i'd be ok with that...hellava first two picks imo.
I bet you're wondering the samething I did, why O' why didn't I take the...blue pill

i'd be ok with that...hellava first two picks imo. Yup, I'm not done deciding which of the guys I want (Rosen or Darnold), but one has to come out. I'm guessing Rosen no matter what. And that fourth pick is shaping up real nice. Especially with all the teams that need QBs. I'd like Minkah Fitzpatrick if Crowell stays around. Although I wouldn't be surprised if we got some ridiculously good trade down offers. The starting QBs int he NFL are getting old. Real old. There's a pretty good crop this year that will move up the boards quick. Possibly six first rounders (Rosen, Darnold, Mayfield, Rudolph, Jackson, Allen) and QBs are gonna be in ridiculous demand (Giants, Steelers, Cardinals, Saints, Chargers, Jets and all sorts of other teams)

Whatever the case may be, Kirk Cousins isn’t off the table for us. He is building a house in MI right now, that’s 5 hours from Cleveland. This means it’s easy access for his family. Furthermore expect the Browns to make a serious run at Cousins offering him Matt Stafford kinda money(125 mill over 6 years with 85 mill guaranteed) no other team in the league will be able to match that offer and it will be really hard for Cousins to say no as this may be his last big pay day before retirement. I don’t think the Redskins tag him again, they are squeezed against the cap now and already had to cut guys like Garcon, Jackson, and others last year and Cousins would make 35mil next year under the franchise tag. As we get closer to the draft don’t be surprised that either Cousins hits FA and we literally unload a bank vault at his doorstep, or the Skins tag him then trade his rights to us costing us a 1st rd pick taking us out of the QB draft. Dorsey says he wants to win the division this year he has big plans...I think Dorsey does everything he can to land Cousins away from Washington. Cousins will def come here as long as he gets the long term deal and assurances he wants, both of which Dorsey can assure. Nothing is set in stone yet but the Browns have a much better chance of getting Cousins then people think. 6 months ago I’d say it’s a pipe dream, now? We got the money, motivation and GM that can get a deal like this done. http://www.espn.com/blog/cleveland-brown...-saquon-barkleyhttp://www.mlive.com/business/west-michigan/index.ssf/2017/09/nfls_kirk_cousins_is_building.html
