So many of these posts reminds me of a situation that happened here not so long ago. We had a young OC and the team losses piled up left and right. People lambasted him and wanted to run him out of town on a rail. They didn't believe in his system and didn't think he could coach. That time, they got their wish.
Fast forward. Some people in this league didn't agree with our fans. He was hired as a HC. But at first glance it appeared that many of our fans were right. He couldn't win. He was in competition with us for the first pick of the draft. I'm sure many San Fran fans felt the exact same way about him as many of our fans feel about Hue today.
But a miracle happened in San Fran. Their FO went out and did their job. They actually landed him a QB that made it possible for that team to compete. And today, there's no way that coach will lose his job. They're on a winning streak.
Now people can say what they will. But that coach was here. That coach saw the dysfunction. That man tried to tell you about and show you that dysfunction. Now San Fran has their HC and a team that can win. They didn't need a new HC. They didn't need to add people to their coaching staff. They just needed a QB.
That man left here and people were thrilled when he did. I don't want to see that same mistake made here again. Congrats to Kyle Shanahan. I knew you would succeed when you were here given a QB. You deserved that chance to succeed and now you have it.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
As for Hue, I went from adamantly wanting to keep him to 50/50 to now leaning towards replacing him. And I hate the thought of rebuilds, rehauls, reboots, whatever. HATE it.
Yes, the talent at QB and WR is ridiculously bad. Yes, the odds of him getting along with that front office were slim to none.
But, man, he has made several baffling coaching mistakes, he seems to refuse to adapt and make adjustments, he is not improving player discipline and mental errors, and he has progressively increased the speaking out to the media, throwing people under the bus.
Right now replacing Hue feels like a necessary move. But if he stays, there are definitely changes that could bring back my optimism. Obviously, an influx of talent. Draft picks! Cap money! Yay! And he could take on an offensive coordinator. There could be enough change to make me feel confident again.
The players still insist they aren't quitting on him. If not, they are just mentally and physically drained. And I'm sure plenty have quit on Kizer.

Apples and oranges.
How do you know that if Hue never gets a QB who he can win with?

If that was the only issue at hand their situations would be identical.
IIRC. Shanahan didn't leave with the Browns pushing him out the door. Shanahan left with the Browns wishing they could have hung on to him.
Actually, at the time, at least then posters on the message board were very down on the coaching staff. Now ownership may have been behind them, but the fan base, not so much.

Kyle Shanahan quit because he had Ray Farmer texting down to the sideline and Johnny Manziel foisted upon him by Jimmy Haslam. The fan base had nothing to do with it.
I would not hire someone I dont trust and i have never trusted him. Its that simple.
I would have hired Hue but his unwillingness to adapt to what he has, is just bad coaching. rookie struggling and he is asking him to throw it when the run game is working is just bad coaching. using mike silver and his daughter to trash the FO is just unacceptable.
Hue put together a good staff but man his adjustments when the game is close is to ask the QB that has struggled to throw the ball over and over. Running the read option with a josh McCown that can barely stand, is one of the dumbest things ever. Calling a timeout to waste a challenge over and over. just mind numbing watching his catastrophe.
Add in his ability to throw any player under the bus to protect his own ass and he has gotta go.
Bottom line 1-31. Worst coach in the history of football.
You're trying to indicate something that I never said. I didn't say that how the fans felt had any impact on whether he left or not. I simply said the majority of fans on this message board wanted the entire coaching staff gone.
It's the exact same merry go round we've seen here since the beginning.

Crow faces a stacked box 27% of the time. (the top 4 on the list faces 8 more in the box on 50% of their carries)
These are the names of RBs that face more: Derrick Henry Jonathan Stewart Mike Gillislee Chris Ivory Leonard Fournette Orleans Darkwa Jordan Howard Mark Ingram Javorius Allen Adrian Peterson Carlos Hyde Latavius Murray Samaje Perine Alfred Morris Kerwynn Williams Peyton Barber DeMarco Murray Bilal Powell LeSean McCoy Alex Collins Marshawn Lynch Ezekiel Elliott Doug Martin Matt Breida Melvin Gordon LeGarrette Blount
If Hue comes back, and I'll let you pick any Quarterback in football, Pro, College, Canadian, doesn't matter, the Browns will be in last place in the division start to finish next year.
I hope he stays. However, if he goes I can only hope they get a good head coach.
Right now it is all about the draft and free agency.
Dorsey is the key man.
He is the guy who can make the team better. I am of the belief that there are plenty of guys who can qualify as a Head Coach. Football is not that complicated. It is all about acquiring talent. Talent to execute the offensive and defensive schemes.
Hue staying to me is an advantage for the players.
If they change the HC then the work that has been done in teaching these young players is lost.
I am not sure why we have thread after thread talking about Hue is going to get fired when Haslam has already said he will be back and Dorsey has said he is looking forward to working with him in the offseason

An OC has to hurt the D and get them out of the box. Hue does almost nothing to help this. Really not too imaginative. He should binge watch about every foot of Landry and his screens and draws and offensive sense in general. There are other offense guys. We get worse the closer we get. And Kizer in the red zone in the NFL isn't much better than in college if I remember what I saw.
Hue stays if he agrees to get help IMO. More of the offensive failures may go with a true NFL QB.

The key is keeping the same offensive system in place so all these young players don't have to start over from scratch and be set back in development, abandoned, and replaced by the new GM.

Would you rather have them learn the new offensive system now or next off-season?

Not to mention, the amount of roster turnover the Browns are already anticipated to have at key positions such as QB, RB and likely WR. Additionally, the OL is comprised of mostly veterans versed in various schemes so change should not be unsettling. It stands to reason, the continuity argument is without merit.

I don't want to sound harsh, but you call what we have a system? Who or what was "developed"? There was absolutely no sign of progress in any area of the offense (maybe the OL excepted) as the season progressed.

I'd take DeFilipo back at this point... Hue hasn't done much better than he had when he was here.

This is crazy with hindsight:
Quote:
While juggling acquired veteran QB Josh McCown and hotshot second-year QB Johnny Manziel, DeFilippo constructed one of Cleveland’s most prolific offenses: 4,156 passing yards (4th-most in franchise history), 2.0 INT % (2nd-best), and a 4,100 passing yard, 1,500 rushing yard season for the first time since 1986.

I don't care if given a quarterback Hue's offense is capable of winning, he's a terrible head coach.

Sorry, but it's mind boggling to me that some fans actually want to keep an 0-16 HC just for the sake of continuity. Chalk it up as another poor hire, Hue should be fired.
I think finding the right head coach is an advantage to the players.

I don't believe this line of thinking about HC for one second. Although it makes sense as to why one would want to keep Hue. I think if this were true, you wouldn't see as many head coaches fired. I think good head coaches are as rare as quarterbacks.
It's also interesting you comment about how football is all about acquiring talent. That's all Sashi did and he was fired. He brought us some excellent young talent via draft, trade, and free agency. Is this a suggestion we shouldn't have fired sashi?

so only 7 of the top 80 has a lower average with a stacked box than the crow? might be why hue doesnt run the crow as much into a stacked box? smart...
