Gruden to the Raiders is official.

http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/21987900/jon-gruden-named-oakland-raiders-head-coach

That means we have the Lions (Matt Patricia is rumored to be the favorite), Giants, Colts, Cardinals, and Bears still open.

It's weird. Mike Mularkey was supposedly on the way out, but then the Titans came back. In the press conference after the game Mularkey basically said that he knew he was going to be fired (and still might be). If that job opens up then Josh McDaniels will be the favorite.

It seems like John DeFillipo is going to get one of these jobs (Bears or Cardinals). Also, Jim Schwartz will probably get one. Other than those two (and Patricia) I don't know who will get the jobs.

The big one that might still have a chance of being open is the Packers. There are rumors that if the Packers hire certain people to run the front office that Mike McCarthy will be out.

Some thoughts on the coaching decisions:

--I am a bit surprised that Gruden gave up his gigs w/ESPN. He was living the life.

--Patricia: Didn't NE have one of the worst defenses in the entire NFL this past year? I think they were 32nd for awhile and ended up 29th. And this is the "hottest" candidate? LOL

--DeFillipo is surprising to me. We complain about Hue not running the ball, but Flip ran it even less. He even admitted he would abandon the run early in games. I don't see this great resume.

--Schwartz is a good DC, but what did he do as a HC? I just looked it up. He was 29 and 51 for a career .363 winning percentage.

--Mularkey shouldn't be fired. That team lacks recognizable talent. What they do is play hard and above their talent level. That's good coaching.

--McDaniels is probably the most qualified candidate out there.

--Pat Shurmur has been mentioned as a guy who is a favorite to get one of the jobs. I don't need to comment on that one. LOL

I might be alone on this, but I'm damn glad we are not searching for a new head coach!

The rumor is The titans will keep malarkey. If that happens Sean Ryan would be a good hire for them.

vers, you are not alone...I'm glad the coaching staff will remain, possibly with some changes or additions.

Dorsey can spend more time on scouting players and not hiring a new coaching staff..and that IS a good thing! imo.

We need to hire an offensive coordinator of Hues choice. Like it or not Hue is our coach and the pressure on him to start off winning in 2018 will be important. If the Browns stagger out of the gate the pressure to fire Hue will mount and ruin another season. That is also why I want the Browns to get a good veteran QB to start and add some playmakers on offense and defense as well. I don't want our hopes to depend on Hue developing a rookie QB. We already have a big, strong armed QB who has been through hell this year. Let him sit and learn for a few years while we build a winning culture.

I just want a winner. We need players who can be part of the solution not part of the problem.

I don't think the pressure on Hue can get much higher. It's his own doing though. Everybody would still be yelling "fire Sashi" and not "fire Hue" if Hue hadn't pulled his coup.

Obviously you haven't actually been reading the board.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Nobody pulled a coup. That's just something drama momma's say in some conspiracy theory. Did Elvis tell you that at a Krispy Kreme Donut shop somewhere?

Notice Bob Wylie still has a job and he was helping with the leaks.

You really should hear yourself.

Hue, his daughter, Silver, and Bob all coordinated their attack for the same time. This coup needed to have a leader and they all had one guy in common.

As my favorite non-rocket scientist likes to say, it isn't rocket science.

It makes a whole lot more sense than the excuses I have been hearing for a HC with a career losing record.

It's not a coaching hire, but the Packers hired a new GM (Brian Gutekunst).

https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/950074714759880710

Also, some people were saying Mike McCarthy would have been out if one of the other candidates (Russ Ball) was hired.

There are rumors that Elliot Wolf might be available after he didn't get the job. I wouldn't be shocked if he ended up in Cleveland because of his connections with John Dorsey and Alonzo Highsmith. Oakland and Kansas City also make sense.

I understand this, but don't understand it at the same time.

If you're going to fire a guy, what difference does one game make? Now Mike Mularkey is just going to be on the hot seat the entire year next year (when the Titans don't have an easy schedule).

He has a Cleveland connection as well through his dad. I'll bet he takes a GM job somewhere else though.

Houston, I think Carolina still has an interim GM, and possibly a team still in the playoffs.

Houston is said to be hiring some guy from the Bills (Brian Gaine). Carolina has an interim GM, but they are also for sale. It'd be hard to see them hire anyone until they get a new owner. Those are the only two teams I know of with no GMs and I don't think Eliot Wolf has even interviewed with either team.

Insane.

Why is that insane?

Because we don't know if Gruden is a good coach.

Better than anyone this team has had in a LONG LONG time. He has a SB ring to prove it. In a win against a team he helped to build. And if the stupid tuck rule wasn't a thing he probably would have won 2 SBs I'd take Gruden in a heartbeat.

Yeah if you like another pass-happy OC then he's great. He took a pretty solid running game he inherited from Shanahan and did nothing with it.

Better than anyone we've had in a long time is not a tough thing to do. It also doesn't mean he's worth $10 million per year.

The Bears hired Matt Nagy as their head coach.

https://twitter.com/adamjahns/status/950409536376012800

Matt Nagy could be Trubisky's Sean McVay.

Also, Nagy was rumored to be one of the guys John Dorsey wanted if Hue Jackson was fired.

Here's hoping we fix everything and Nagy isn't the coach that could have been if not for Haslam.

Would have been a nice fit with Nagy, Alex Smith and young Baker Mayfield. Let's hope Toub or Defilippo remain unhired this season and they'll be on top of our list next season.

That was some tremendous offensive play calling by Nagy in the Wildcard game on Saturday, especially gaining 61 yards in the 2nd half.

Hunt, the NFL's leading rusher had only 11 carries in the entire game. Despite KC leading by 18 points, Nagy only ran Hunt 5 times in the second half. Genius!!!

Inspiring performance by a team that had way more talent than the Titans did. rolleyes

so what you're saying is, there's no difference between him and Hue.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

No Swish. I'm saying I find it funny that some are acting like we missed out on this guy and he is some sort of genius. I am also saying that I bet Hue would run the ball if he had an 18 pt. lead at halftime.

Honestly, I think Andy Reid deserved it, with all the fuss he created this season, the Alex Smith situation, the Mahomes draft...

I saw the game, and IMHO, the main issue was KC defense, they just folded on the 2nd half.
