Browns first-round draft pick Joe Thomas and second-round pick Eric Wright are close to agreeing to terms on their contracts and are expected to be on the field for the first day of full-squad training camp Friday.

"They're not done yet, but we hope to have something done within the next couple of hours," agent Peter Schaffer, who represents both players, said Thursday afternoon.

Thomas, the left tackle, and Wright, the cornerback, are two of the Browns top three picks. The third, quarterback Brady Quinn, picked No. 22 overall, has not yet agreed to terms.

GREAT NEWS!! 1 more to go.

Glad that both these deals are done for the official start of full-squad camp.

These are the two guys we needed in as soon as possible!

Screw that dumbass, Quinn.

He won't be starting this season, anyway.

IMO, these were the most importan guys... It would be great to have Quinn there also, but if someone had to hold out, I'm just glad it isn't these two guys,,,

This is the best possible news.
I sure wish Quinn would be in camp on time also, but not as necessary as these two.
If Baxter, Bentley can come back, especially Bentley, and these two signings that would make my day.
WHOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GO BROWNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Phil, get this done!!

As for Thomas and Wright, EXCELLENT! Move over Shaffer!

AND THIS..

CLEVELAND -- NewsChannel5 sources said that the Cleveland Browns have signed first-round and second-round draft picks Thursday.

Browns analyst Reggie Rucker said the Browns first draft pick, offensive tackle Joe Thomas, signed on the dotted line.

The team has also signed second-round pick Eric Wright.

No other details of the deals are known at this time. NewsChannel5 and Newsnet5.com will provide more information as it becomes available.

Browns training camp kicks off on Friday in Berea. The team's other high-profile draft pick, quarterback Brady Quinn, has not yet inked a deal.

As previously stated, these are two I want to see in camp anyway. A holdout from Quinn only satisfies my excuse of wanting him to sit anyway.

Get it done.

I agree with everyone else who posted in this thread. These were the two big rookies that needed to get into camp. They are the ones who are going to be asked to be a big part of the team.

It would be great to get Quinn in early but there is very little chance he is going to start any game very soon anyway. Next year is the year we expect Quinn to be a big contributor.

Nice find on the link - I had thrown up a blurb in the 1st round signings thread...

Brady will be feeling the pressure....

This was essential for either of them to end up starting right away for the team - I'm stoked! As for Quinn, he wasn't going to start anyway and any small chance he had dwindles each day. Can't complain about getting everyone but Quinn locked up.

SWWEEET! Way to get 'er done, Phil. This is exactly what the team needed right now, especially with all the negativity surrounding this camp. Bonus: These signings put pressure on Brady's agent to get it done too. If he doesn't, Brady looks like an ass because the #1 pick, #3 overall, is signed, in camp and working out.

This is fantastic news. Quinn can hold out for as long as he wants. We got our future left tackle and corner back in camp on time! That is great news. Now we can focus on getting Quinn his 22nd pick money. Not top ten money.

Awesome - personally I thought if these guys got into camp on time both of them could be starting on Day 1.... Quinn I didn't think would get a chance until half way through the season... and that's only if he gets in on time.

I wonder if Romeo's great pal, Charlie Weis, warned our front office about Quinn being a little too stuck on himself.

A week ago I said that he'd only sign after the others were inked. He'll be signed and in camp by Monday A.M. RAC ought to have Quinn run the Gatorade cart to the starters on the field for a week!

Woohoo! Great news

These are the 2 that I really wanted in. It would be nice if #10 signed today too, but him sitting all year is fine with me.

Great job by Phil! I admittedly started to lose some faith in him when I didn't hear too much about the negotiations, but I'm glad to see the guys who have the best chance of starting right away in camp.

why is there so much backlash towards quinn? i don't agree that he deserves top ten money, but you can't fault the kid for trying

i want him in camp as much as i wanted thomas and wright, they ALL need to be here, they are ALL a part of this team...

quinn may hold out, but i don't see it lasting very long, the kid flat out wants to play, and i think that may trump anything else in this situation, i'd say a week from tomorrow at the very latest...

All the "love" for Brady Quinn makes me wanna puke. What are you gonna say when he's our starting QB and is very successful? I know...you knew it all along.

Don't look at me, I want him in ASAP!

It makes me sick that people are saying "I don't care when Quinn signs anyway, it's not important."

What a crock. The more reps he takes, the more prepared he is, and the sooner he leapfrogs the rubbish in front of him.

I had a dream last night that Thomas refused to sign with the browns and requested a trade. I woke up in a panicked state, it was actually a nightmare i guess. This news should allow me to sleep better tonight.
