But I will add that the situation in NE seems a little strange right now ... a lot of ego and behind the scene stuff going on IMO
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

Yep, that is what I was thinking.
Here is my wild speculative post. I think that perhaps BB coaches next year and then either retires or moves on and Josh becomes NE's HC in 2019.
Do you think that is farfetched? My first thought was that Bill is on his way out sooner than later. What I’m anxious to see is how the NFL will deal with this (if it happens) in regards to the Rooney Rule. No way they can let them get away with this without some consequence? If the Pats made McDaniels the HC in waiting in his new contract, they don't have to abide by the Rooney Rule.

I have always heard that Bill B. has complete control in New England. I do not even know if they have a GM or in what capacity he serves. Point being, even if they where looking to McDaniel as the future HC would they give him the same level of control right from the start? Possibly they may transition B.B. into a more traditional GM role while turning over the on field stuff to McDaniel?

Interesting.
Garoppolo was promised to be Brady's heir apparent - he wanted to start sooner and strike out on his own and succeed or fail on his own ability. Good for him.
McDaniels seems to be settling to be the heir apparent at his comfortable digs and to sit tight playing second string to BB. Whatever the reason - whether it's Luck or BB retiring - I am not impressed. The only exception will be if BB retires and JM is the HC next season in New England.

Hmmm... BB suddenly retires, Brady suddenly retires, NE suddenly in the QB market?
I wonder if they would try to sign a franchise tagged JG with Brady's salary off the books?
And before someone like Pitdawg chimes in, I don't really think this would happen, just thinking out loud.

Seems like a d-bag move. But I'm wondering why anyone would want to go deal with that nut-job, Irsay, in the first place.

And it could be as simple as BB wanting Josh to stay as a buffer between him and Brady. Can't see Brady disagreeing w/ that. Have to see what his new contract is but Krafty may have made him a serious money offer. W/ Greg Schiano apparently taking over as DC the Pats could easily make another serious run at the Superbowl.

No matter his reasons, this is a bad look for McDaniel. Other than NE, how can any team take him seriously as a candidate in the future? Taking after Belichick and the Jets thing. Maybe he's thinking that Belichick is almost out the door. Brady also. And what's bad about that is that they traded away a good guy in Jimmy G.

Very interesting news.
If I'm the Colts, I see if I can talk to Reich or Defilippo.
It's probably a plus the Colts actually have some assistants in place. Means a new HC this late in the game isn't entirely stranded.

Good point. I was going to mention that, but didn't want to get too crazy. LOL While we are on that idea, would that not be a violation of the Rooney Rule? Not that I really care in a case where you have a coach who retires and you don't open the job to the outside and you promote from with-in. I understand if you go outside to hire a coach how being inclusive has merit. I just don't think hiring inside the team structure should be held to the same rule.

Maybe Bill told Josh.. " Hey Josh, you stay here and take my job..I'm going to the Colts with Andrew Luck...I'm tired of bailing out Brady "

From the comments section: Here's JM after reading that tweet: So perfect. I can visualize Josh doing this too.

There is a foul odor in Indianapolis and it comes from the owners chair. Oh it's the owner.
If there is a bad apple owner it is Irsey.

So it sounds like Josh McDaniels accepted the job. The team even put out an official press release saying McDaniels had been hired. There are coaches under contract that McDaniels hired working in the Colts building. McDaniels backs out at the last second. Colts are screwed (for now).
I don't really blame McDaniels. I think we forgot sometimes that these guys are human beings. I have definitely changed my mind at the last second on some big time decisions.

j/c: Agent Bob LaMonte Terminating Relationship With Josh McDaniels After Backing Out On Colts Dan Graziano of ESPN reports that Josh McDaniels‘ agent, Bob LaMonte, who also represents Colts GM Chris Ballard and many other coaches and executives around the league is terminating his relationship with McDaniels.
Earlier in the day, Mike Garafolo reported Lamonte told McDaniels that he was making “perhaps the biggest professional mistake of his career by backing out of this Colts job at this point.” http://nfltraderumors.co/agent-bob-lamonte-terminating-relationship-josh-mcdaniels-backing-colts/

Yeah, I wouldn't want my professional name associated with a guy who pulled that kind of BS either.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

This is such a Browns-ian thing to happen. I'm relieved it wasn't my team.
If I had to guess (which I am, because this is all we can do right now), I think it's Luck. There has been so little clarity about his injury and timetable to return that there has to be something serious going on. McDaniels must have caught wind of something bad enough to freak him out. As of now, Luck and their high draft pick are the only things the Colts have going for them (everything else pretty much sucks). If half of those things aren't good to go, that should give any potential HC pause.
As for the effect on McDaniels career... I don't think it's a big deal in the long run. I think his agent had to fire him because McDaniels just screwed over the agent's other client, the Colts GM. I'm not reading too much into that drama. In a couple years, I really don't think it'll matter. That being said, this really sucks for the Colts. McDaniels has really put them in a tight spot, and they have every right to be pissed.

If he is new HC, it makes sense. Is the BB abdicating? Just boggled my mind when I heard JMcD had backed out. Something happened or will.

Well. suppose they make you a grand offer for, oh, say, Trent Richardson, hypothetically, of course. We almost died of windburn getting to them. Depends on what is on the table. Something very sweet must be in NE for him. Very wanted.

Actually don't know why we would be a comparison as we never had anything like this happen...they have always said no thank you...not yes and then no thank you...lol
I agree with a few who have mentioned it already. I think the BB rift is bigger than anticipated.
BB was very set on JG as his Brady replacement and continue the dynasty. Now the dynasty is going to die with Brady.
I am sure (with not a one link) guessing "SURE", that BB was going to try to trade Brady especially after another SB ring but even with the loss. For a gold mine. The precedent has been set that 3 first round picks could be achieved.
BB knows how to turn that into years of picks. Then have his franchise QB for another 10 seasons. But he was forced to trade JG. And it wasn't a shop him around thing. Gave him away after he was forced to. Which is sign #1 that BB was pretty PO'd. Especially after it was reported we were willing to give a First round pick for him if we were in the hunt but definitely a better deal than the 49ers gave. He dumped JG.
So I think the stuff is ready to hit the PATS fan...and an end of era now in sight.
But that is the only reason I can see McD doing an about face...$$$$ as I cringe...I don't think was the case.

Oh, they'll parade the first black person they can find into Kraft's office for an "interview" and claim they followed the letter of the rule, but it's a smack in the face of the equal representation the rule is meant to intend. Now, does that mean they'll get away with it? Probably. The Raiders got away with it with Gruden. If this happens, then the implementation of the rule needs to be addressed and modified. Too many people choose their guy, then do "fake" interviews. Either have the rule or don't.

No one would trade that many first round picks for a 41-year-old QB.

How can you say that with any certainty??? The best QB ever in the game who has shown that he has no diminishing skills yet. After seeing what teams give up for a chance to draft RG3 or somebody else?
I mean its a moot point but why insult me like that as if its a fact. sorry but yes that pisses me off.
My point is there has never been a situation like this ever before so how on earth could you make that claim as fact...but thanks for not just coming out and calling me a dumb ass.

McDaniels agent has dropped him. That's pretty unusual and speaks to how badly JM has shafted the Colts. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000...ch-spurns-colts

Bob LaMonte is also the agent of Chris Ballard (the Colts GM). Also, this is not the first time LaMonte dropped McDaniels.
