What is a good offer though?

I wouldn't offer a ton without an extension. He's on the last year of his contract.

I would have no problem giving up one of our seconds if Seattle would be willing to let us talk to Thomas about an extension.

If an extension is involved, I'd do that very quickly for either of the two later second round picks.

Exactly... yes exactly. Outside pick 33, I'd graciously send one of the others if Earl would talk extension too. That would be... well it would be pretty freaking awesome IMO.

Later second round picks. We have 2 picks at the beginning of the 2nd - 33 and 35 - not exactly later.

Muhammad Wilkerson - DL - Free Agent

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports free agent DE Muhammad Wilkerson will visit the Saints after leaving his Packers visit without a contract.

As is the case in Green Bay, Wilkerson would fill a huge need for the Saints. CBS' Jason La Canfora reports the Chiefs will be next if Wilkerson leaves New Orleans without a deal.

33 is the first pick in the second round, and is highly valuable. You get a night and etc to chill, unwind, and see who's still available and make the pick from there.

You mean to tell me you wouldn't give up 35 for Earl Thomas? On the grounds he's willing to talk extension, while keeping 33? I'd be on that like white on rice and then #4 becomes a Barkley pick.

Yes I would.

I was pointing out that "later", to me, implied latter part of the 2nd round, of which we have only 1 pick.

He will be 29 in May. I don’t believe he is coming off surgery. He did have a hamstring injury in December.

Hands down.

...

As for his injury, I don't think he had any recent surgery(s). Broke his leg which is the biggest major thing I can recall, but no surgery needed. Pdawg said it already but had some hamstring stuff in 2017. Nothing I'm worrying about.

So pretty much what has already been said:

Nothing major.

No surgery on the broken tibia was needed, that occurred in 2016.

Hamstring issues in not many games last season.

Man I hope we're talking to Seattle... get it done John!

It might take all of it to entice 3 good players to come to Cleveland. frown

*cough* Trumaine Johnson *cough*

On a serious note, Johnson is definitely going to be available now LA has done what they have. I don't think Pryor will get offered much, so I'd welcome him back. I'm not about leveling the cap though. I think this is why someone that's going to get paid like Kirk turns me away.

Report: Free agent CB Bashaud Breeland tied to Browns

Washington Redskins cornerback Bashaud Breeland is a name to watch for Cleveland Browns fans in free agency according to Bleacher Report's Ian Wharton.

The 26 year old was a sixth round choice out of Clemson in the 2014 NFL Draft. Over the past four seasons, he has missed just four games. Last season, Breeland recorded 50 tackles, 19 pass deflections, an interception and a touchdown. According to Spotrac.com, the South Carolina native has a market value of $34,922,732 over five seasons, which equates to roughly $6.9 million annually.

The Browns have hired former Redskins General Manager Scot McCloughan as a draft consultant but there is no question that they would not hesitate to ask him about a guy like Breeland. McCloughan did not draft the cornerback but he has spent two seasons around him.

Los Angeles Rams cornerback Trumaine Johnson is another name that has some ties to the Browns. Defensive coordinator Gregg Williams coached Johnson for years. However, he is expected to receive potentially twice as much as Breeland. General Manager John Dorsey must weigh the value of the 28-year old. Another name to consider is Chicago Bears cornerback Kyle Fuller. Fuller is the brother of cornerback Kendall Fuller, who was traded from the Redskins to the Kansas City Chiefs. McCloughan is likely very familiar with his family and background dating back to the days he drafted his brother. Chicago recently placed the transition tag on Fuller.

Cleveland has roughly $109 million in salary cap space.

Former Falcons defensive end Derrick Shelby spent Thursday in Seattle and now is headed to Cleveland, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports.

Atlanta released Shelby last week, saving the team $3.25 million.

You gotta think that we are drafting at least one corner as well. It's gonna be a crowded DB room this year!

I don't think Trumaine Johnson is going to be on the table. I bet he goes to the 49ers.

How about we sign Johnson, draft Fitzpatrick, and then Tyrann Mathieu becomes a free agent, and we sign him as well.

Adding Trumaine Johnson and Earl Thomas would certainly go a long way to bolster the secondary

Johnson's ties to Williams are undeniable, but I'd look for Fuller of Chicago and more possible is Breeland of the Skins.

We need Tre Boston in here.

Boston FS
Breeland CB
Isaiah Oliver CB Colorado

Major Secondary Upgrades.

OBR threw this out a week or so ago. Seems like it could be gaining momentum.

That would change the whole narrative. It's a whole lot nicer around here after a win or two. We tend to talk about the positives rather than talk about the team sucks, this player sucks, this coach sucks, this poster sucks.

For me, nothing is good when we lose. Much is good when we win. And by winning, I am not talking about a win stuck between 2-3 losses. When is the last time we won 3 in a row? Maybe the year Mangini pulled out a few to keep his job when Homie was hired?

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

We may have won 3 in a row Pettine's year with Hoyer at QB? Not sure, we were 7-4 at one point.

That was certainly a high point. You're right, winning cures all.

On the Eve of Free Agency, the Cautionary Tale of Suh

The NFL New Year comes next week, but it’s not time to celebrate yet. Before we can enjoy the promise of new beginnings, we get a slow undoing of past forays—a string of reminders that many moves ultimately end in regret. Since Monday, a Legion has been disbanded and a No-Fly Zone dissolved, as well as a dozen other deals nullified as teams part ways with former stars. And in Miami, the ultimate act of amends looms over the Dolphins.

Three years after signing Ndamukong Suh to the biggest ever contract for a defensive player (six years, $114 million), Miami is reportedly considering cutting the defensive tackle. "At this point, the Dolphins are trying to determine whether a Suh restructuring (if Suh is willing) or a release is the better option," Barry Jackson reports in the Miami Herald. "The least appealing option is keeping his cap hit at $26.1 million for next season." Suh has played well in his three seasons as a Dolphin, but they finished 16th, 29th and 25th in yards allowed, going a combined 22-26 with zero playoff wins. And Suh has lasted longer in Miami than did the recipients of the next three biggest free agent deals in the winter of 2015—Darrelle Revis (Jets), Jeremy Maclin (Chiefs) and Julius Thomas (Jaguars).

By my math, no player has ever won a Super Bowl after going elsewhere for a $100 million deal (and only three players, Drew Bledsoe, Fletcher Cox and Ben Roethlisberger, have won a ring playing on a nine-figure contract.) So enjoy a weekend of free agency speculation, but remember, Jan. 2 always comes. Just ask the Dolphins.

Adding at least one of top CBs via FA has to be a top priority for this front office.

Add a CB1 in FA + draft a top CB via the draft and that goes a long way to improve the secondary and team.

If the Browns plan on winning games this year; they have to score in free agency.

We have the money.

Money talks. If we have to go big on someone; then so be it.

We are at that stage where it makes sense. We can not depend upon all the young guys to lead the way.

We should sign two to four key guys.
