Duke is signed through this coming season.

If Duke Johnson resigns we are in big trouble.

You think Michel can be a Bell Cow back for us? 3rd and short, between the Tackles type runner?

He struck me as an outside runner. Could be our version of Bell I guess.

jc..

Back to basics...Carlos Hyde's performance will be directly tied to the performance of our offensive line. At this point, the quality of our OLine is in question, an unknown with the retirement of Joe Thomas.

Dorsey added a couple of free agent OTs and how they fit into the makeup of 2018 OLine and how they perform is UNKNOWN at this time.

If Hyde's OLine performs well, so should Hyde.

The other variable that remains unknown is who Dorsey drafts. If Barkley is available at our #4, will Dorsey take him...again, an unknown.

I like the signing of Carlos...

He's better between the tackles than I thought he was. I thought he was just a fast, explosive, outside runner, too. However, when I started to study him for the Ranking and Evaluating RBs thread, I noticed that he can run inside. He has a nice leg drive and can make himself skinny. He will also lower his shoulders.

While I like a lot of the RBs in this draft, I am starting to wonder if Dorsey is good w/Hyde and Duke. Like most other things when it comes to the draft, I have no clue what he will do.

I would love to see some Mack-Byner type of series. We do not seem to give a D much to worry about. Hyde and Duke , inside and outside, power and pass, these give them more to do than stuff the box and bring it.

I hope the OC has enough wits to help us out.

I do too! I want to run defenses into the dirt! I love that type of football even though the game may not be there currently.

I watched his entire OSU career, but the more I see his NFL highlights, more pumped I get. He'll replace Crow just fine.

Quick Reply. I've mostly forgotten about the pro careers of both Tyrod Taylor and Carlos Hyde, up until now they have been easily forgettable.

It will be nice to have a bigger back who won't make me cringe when he's on the field for a short yardage down...ala Crow. That should make Duke feel quite better as well.

Crow:
5'11, 225lbs

Hyde:
6'0, 235lbs

Hyde isn't too much bigger (granted that 10 lbs difference is probably ALL muscle given how lean RBs are usually), but I think he has more power and ability to break tackles than Crow.

JMO..but I have a hard believing Crow is 225-lbs.

At times it seemed that Crow just didn't have enough power to make his own hole in short (1-2yds) yardage situations.

Some backs are capable of "moving the pile"...but that is not something Crow was known for.

Crowell could run with power. He showed it on a number of occasions. The issue (in my mind) is that he didn't run hard all the time. Check that, he didn't run hard most of the time.

I thought Crowell had some talents as a RB, but balance and vision weren't among them. I see Hyde as an upgrade.

I don't think I've seen it mentioned, but Carlos Hyde's contract is basically a one year deal. He's the new Ben Tate, hopefully he plays better than Ben Tate.

I liked Hyde when he was at Ohio State. I think he is a more powerful runner than Crowell. Crowell should have gotten the ball a lot more. Hopefully Hyde gets more carries. He is the type of back than can wear done a defense.

I just want a winner. We need players who can be part of the solution not part of the problem.

Since we didn't try anyone else in the position, we don't really know if it was a Crowell problem...

Which is really, really stupid in a 1-31 team.

I'm okay with being done with the Crow hand offs. We have big brusier backs that can accelerate through the hole, take contact and keep their balance. Crow outran his balance threshold so many times and needed hand offs to get warmed up on a usual bases.

But yeah, Crow and all our backs should've gotten the ball more. Hopefully Haley can use our backs now and not abandon them.

It may have been mentioned but Carlos Hyde had a LOT more catches last year than I would have though. He had 59 receptions last year.

pretty interesting stuff
