So, we have been talking so much about who we are going to draft, so I decided to look up exactly who Dorsey has picked and what positions he has picked, to try to get a better feel of who we may pick in this draft.
2013:
1. Eric Fisher OT

And as far as trades go:
2013: Traded 2013 2nd round draft pick and 2014 2nd round draft pick for Alex Smith
2014: No trades
2015: The Chiefs traded their 3rd round pick (80th overall) and their 6th round pick (193rd overall) to the Minnesota Vikings for their 3rd round pick (76th overall)
2016: The Chiefs acquired an additional fifth-round selection in a trade that sent safety Kelcie McCray to the Seattle Seahawks.
The Chiefs traded their 1st round draft pick (28th overall) and 7th round pick (249th overall) to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for the 49ers 2nd round pick (37th overall), 4th round pick (105th overall), and 6th round pick (178th overall)
The Chiefs traded their 2nd round draft pick (59th overall) to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in exchange the Buccaneers 3rd round pick (74th overall) and 4th round selection (106th overall)
2017: The Chiefs traded their 1st round selection, (27th overall), their 3rd round selection (91st overall), and their 2018 1st round selection for the Buffalo Bills 1st round selection (10th overall)
The Chiefs traded their 3rd round selection (104th overall), 4th round selection (132nd overall), and 7th round selection (245th overall) to the Minnesota Vikings for their 3rd round selection (83rd overall)

So, what I get out of these numbers is this. He doesn't take WRs or RBs in the first two rounds. He prefers CB, Oline and Dline. Last year was the first time he took a QB in the first four rounds.
Early on, he didn't seem to do a lot of wheeling and dealing on draft day, but in the past 2 years he has become very active. I expect to see more of this. Whether it is moving up or down is yet to be seen.
He definitely likes later round RBs. That has been discussed at length already. The argument of course, is that he has never had a RB available with the skill set of Barkley. This is true, but he has been pretty successful with Knile Davis, DeAnthony Thomas and of course Kareem Hunt.
He likes a late round flyer on a QB. Now whether he would take one late after taking one first overall, we will see.
But to me, the biggest takeaway is his propensity to draft defensive lineman, offensive linemen and corners in the first 2 rounds. I think this is a sign of what very well could happen this year.

I know everyone is going to over read into positions n rounds.
I think what we have to look at is his overall evaluations of best player regardless of rounds. That is the key to me. He will take anyone who is a good football player at the right time n place!

Thanks for the post. Makes me wish I was more familiar with the Chiefs holes/needs at the time(s) and the college level of talent pool to be able to evaluate it better. Given the history there though, maybe I should start thinking more about Chubb, Ogbah and Myles trio and how they all could be used?

You can't form direct correlations to predict what Dorsey might do because the draft isn't static...its dynamic. Without knowing the context of who else was on the board then the choices lack context.
Dorsey by his own admission is a best player available guy and that more then anything else will guide the draft choices.

BPA takes a back seat to need in some cases. This is interesting to see, and I thank you for the work. Have he ever been this front-loaded before (the position thang)? I hope he does well by us.

He values QB and CB quite a bit ... I won't be shocked if it's Darnold/Ward I won't either. In fact I won't be shocked if it's Darnold/Ward, Darnold/Chubb, Darnold/Barkley, or Darnold/Fitzpatrick. Or Rosen/Whoever, Allen/Whoever, or Mayfield/Whoever. It's possible they tipped their hand at the pro day with Haslam chumming up Darnold's parents, but we don't really know. And it's almost impossible to assign/guess future picks from past performance. We don't know what his needs were, nor do we have a clue as to how he values or rates this year's top players. He may put a premium on certain positions like CB, OT, QB & DE, most teams do in all likelihood. But though that may be the case, and even though he's never drafted a RB in the 1st, it may not prevent him from say, taking Barkley at four if he sees him as a generational/game changing player. Which we can always use, rarely get, and desperately need. So, who knows? We'll just have to wait and see.

Due to the scarcity of OT in this draft, I think RB could be in play at #33/35.
