Source: #Browns QB Cody Kessler is being traded to the #Jaguars. A new backup.
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

Browns traded QB Cody Kessler to Jaguars for a conditional late-round 2019 draft pick, per source.

He had no more of a chance to succeed than Kizer. He didn't have any more of a team behind him than the next guy.
Cody didn't have hte tools that Kizer had. His strength was an ability to throw great short range passes to the middle of the field. He was a master of the inside slant.
But he had major limitations, and didn't show any indication that he'd improve pushing the ball down the field. But Jacksonville might be good for him.
did we draft Cody in the 3rd round? ... so he doesn't win a game then gets traded for a 7th round pick LOL

That's a perfect team for him to go to. They run the crap out of the ball, and play great defense. All he would have to do, if called upon, is to not make a lot of mistakes.

I like Kesseler still, I think he can be a nice little backup.
Cody was the most accurate QB we've had in while ...

I'd agree with that. But Cody's bread and butter was the short part of the field (where he was very accurate), making it very hard to run the ball and allowing hte defense to challenge him to push the ball any distance, thus giving them a big advantage.
Cody throws great short passes, but he has an unwillingness to push the ball further than that, and his arm isn't very strong. It's something that has been an issue since college.
For whatever reason, Cody restricts the size of the field that he wants to throw the ball to
I heard on the radio that Kessler has to be on the Jags' active roster for 6 games in 2018 for the Browns to get that 7th round pick. Seems unlikely if they still have Chad Henne backing up Bortles.

53 man roster does not mean dressing for games. He could be a solid # 3
The Cleveland Browns - WE KNOW QUARTERBACKS ( Look at how many we've had ... )
"The guy has had a tremendous career,'' said Jackson, defending what seemed like a questionable pick. "I understand where everyone's coming from. But Cody Kessler is the guy for us.''
Quote:
"You have to trust me on this one,'' Jackson said.
“At the time, he wasn’t the right fit for us,” Jackson said on a conference call on Wednesday. “I think Carson will have a bright future, and we decided to go in a different direction. We evaluated him as a really good player.”
