From nfl.com. . . http://www.nfl.com/teams/story/CLE/10284716Quinn ends holdout, agrees on five-year deal NFL.com (Aug. 7, 2007) -- The Cleveland Browns reached agreement with quarterback Brady Quinn on a five-year, $20.2 million deal that has a maximum value of $30 million and includes $7.75 million worth of guaranteed money. NFL Network's Adam Schefter is reporting that Quinn is en route to Cleveland, hoping to sign Tuesday afternoon and practice Wednesday. Quinn was seeking $8 million in guaranteed money, roughly the same amount that cornerback Aaron Ross, the No. 20 pick, got from the New York Giants. Last week, Browns general manager Phil Savage said he was willing to pay a quarterback premium higher than what would go to a player taken 22nd. Through Tuesday, Quinn had missed 12 days of training camp. Quinn's absence has ensured he will not win the Browns' starting job, which has become a two-man fight between Derek Anderson and Charlie Frye. Coach Romeo Crennel said he still hasn't decided who will start the Browns' exhibition opener on Saturday against the Kansas City Chiefs. "It may be a coin flip before the game to decide," he said. "However, they both are going to play in the game." The Browns were frustrated by a lack of movement on Quinn's side last week. On Friday, Savage voiced his frustration and pointed to the team's solid track record of signing players as proof the Browns were doing all they could to bring Quinn in. "We've got to have some flexibility from the other side to get a deal done," Savage said Friday. "It's to try to meet somewhere in the middle, where both parties can agree -- to sometimes disagree -- but get it done." With Quinn agreeing to a deal with the Browns, that leaves just two more first-round picks who have yet to reach an agreement with their teams. No. 1 overall pick JaMarcus Russell (Raiders) and No. 14 overall pick Darrelle Revis (Jets) remain as holdouts. Information from The Associated Press was included in this report

Thanks Stabber,, seems like a lucrative deal for the young man, the Browns appear to have opened up the wallet a little for him...
But seriously, how does that stack up to last years 22nd pick,, I know it doesn't mean a thing, I just want to know for my own knowledge

Representatives for the 22-year-old out of Notre Dame say the base value and the maximum are higher than everyone taken before him except for the top eight players.
While that's true, the guaranteed money is close to those who signed around him. And, we have to remember that this is QB money we're talking. Does anyone have Aaron Rodgers numbers from when he was drafted in 2005? Remember, he was picked at number 24. I know from nflpa.org that his base salary is:
2005 230,000.00 2006 350,000.00 2007 505,000.00 2008 680,000.00 2009 800,000.00
Also, from here, it says that Rodgers' bonus his first year was $2,120,000 and his second year was $3,014,070. But, I don't know what the terms of his contract (including guaranteed money) was.
And, we have to remember that he didn't have as much bargaining leverage as Quinn because GB didn't trade up to get him, and Rodgers wasn't expected to really compete for the starting job from the get-go.
JMHO
*Edit* Also, let's remember that if our QB situation hadn't improved this year without us ever having drafted Quinn, we'd probably be looking at drafting a QB next year, possibly pretty high in the 1st round. We'd more than likely be shelling out good money then. So, why not do it now?

About time.
I agree. Had the Browns been closer to this offer in the beginning this whole mess could have been avoided.
Almost makes me think they wanted him a few weeks late.
Say it ain't so.

The Brady Quinn saga is now officially over.
The rookie quarterback has agreed to terms on a five-year deal with the Cleveland Browns, FOXSports.com has learned.
Wow, who could've seen this coming? I guess the greedy, self-serving, no-talented QB and the inept & oblivious front office finally came to terms. They must've stumbled around blindly in the dark until the pen accidentally landed on the contract. Cool. Now we can move on and concentrate on getting ready for the season and Brady can take his rightful place as the team's official clipboard caretaker.

Welcome home, Brady. I hope you have many years of success, have an enjoyable and remarkable career, and have the opportunity to experience all the love, warmth and loyalty that Cleveland fans are truly capable of. GO BROWNIES!

Well, I'm glad he signed, but I'm a little disappointed in the 5 year deal. You hope to have a QB locked for 6. It usually takes a year or 2 for development anyways.
All first round draft picks selected after #16 overall can sign for a maximum of five years. Then everyone after the first round can sign for a maximum of four years.
And on Brady signing; about time. He's gonna have to work hard for holding that clipboard. Seriously, I hope he doesnt start a single game this year. Next year I hope he starts every game.

So if I'm reading that right,,, Quinn got 3.5 times more than Manny Lawson (2006, 22nd pick) got. Right?
In essence, Quinn got as much money Guaranteed as Manny got for the entire contract... or close really!
Fellas, we got took. I admitted that I believed Quinn should get the normal bump from one year to the next and I thought that given the nature of things, he should receive money more in line with a 15th or so pick. But he got more that anybody except those in the top 8 picks this year..
Sorry,, But we got took

Theres always a QB premium. A pass rush specialist vs a franchise QB is a poor comparison. It has way more to do with the respected positions than the slotting.

Once again, what did Rodgers get when GB took him a couple years ago?
Also, we have to look at what the incentives are. Also, we have to remember the positions (as others have pointed out). Also, we have to remember that we'd be paying a QB big money next year (potentially), and if he starts and excels, then why wouldn't he get paid big money?

mac Peen IS 100% right! There have been some of us "trying to" get posters to understand that this was "just a business deal" and not "trash Brady" before he ever started. Many were jumping on the "FO/Media" bandwagon and losing every ounce of objectivity in their bodies. And for what? A business deal? It was at the point that was FAR beyond silly! And,as always,we're going to have posters who if he just BARELY "starts slow" will be trashing him out of the gate. I guess you would actually have had to have read and followed all of these threads on THIS BOARD to have an incling into what has or has not transpired over this time frame. I don't always agree with Peen. Probably won't ever agree with him on a lot of things. People aren't supposed to agree on everything. Unless maybe they're clones, But Peen has been fairly supportive of Brady. And after actually "following these threads" I understand his sarcasm and intent in those posts. So I'll call it like I see it. And sometimes, when people "haven't seen it" maybe they "shouldn't call it"? Cause you're mistaken here.

Look at the numbers the other players got this year. They all seem to have made quite a bit more in guaranteed. We don't know what the real value of his contract is.

Manny Lawson - Rookie 5yr/ $8.515M Deal, his Bonus money should be $6.28M.
2006- $1.531M 2007- $1.616M 2008- $1.701M 2009- $1.786M 2010- $1.881M
vs Quinn.
"Thus, assuming that there was no signing bonus (and surely there was not), the maximum value of the Quinn contract is $1.14 million in 2007, $1.425 million in 2008, $1.71 million in 2009, $1.995 million in 2010, and $2.28 million in 2011."
That's a grand total of $8.55 million over five years as the maximum base value.
see article above for link.... so how did we get taken daman? he got a slight increase...
Hunter + Dart = This is the way.

Ya know what would really take the cake?
If the deal was completed at 7:25 AM Arizona time...
Just sayin'. When my friend called me at work to tell me I got chills.
And Pit, no lottery numbers yet, but for two years in a row I've had dreams where we beat the Raiders and it's happened.

I still say we got took

I'm still waiting for all the details to see exactly how it's structured before I really say much about it.
I've seen a few "mixed message" reports even in this thread. And no "official details" on the contract structure.
I mean IF most of the "big bucks" come in year for and five,I think we'll know wheather to "invest or cut our losses" at that juncture. And I have a "funny feeling" that year five has even more gravy than year four based on incentives.
If that's the case,Phil played his cards right IMO
So to me,the way it's structured will speak volumes.

Given Romeo's track record with rookies, I thought this was funny.... Yeah, put him in for two plays to hand it off... web page Browns, Quinn agree in principle Zac Jackson, Staff Writer 08.07.2007 The Browns and Brady Quinn have agreed in principle to contract terms, and Quinn is expected to sign and report to training camp tonight. Browns General Manager Phil Savage made the announcement following Tuesday afternoon's practice, the 16th practice Quinn has missed since the beginning of full-squad camp. Quinn, the 22nd overall pick in this year's draft, was the only Browns player missing from camp. His expected signing will leave just two unsigned first-round picks leaguewide. "He's on his way here," Browns coach Romeo Crennel said. "He's supposed to sign. When he gets here and he gets signed and passes the conditioning test, then we'll put him on the field. "The fact that he's agreed, that's a good sign. Now we can really start to move forward." Once Quinn arrives and the contract is examined, he's expected to sign, then join his teammates for meetings. He'll have some cramming to do after missing 12 days of camp. "I don't think he'll get much sleep over the next couple weeks," Savage said. "He's behind," Crennel said. "He has to catch up. He has to put in extra time and work extra to try to catch up. We're going to put him at the bottom of the chart and see where is." Crennel said he wouldn't rule out Quinn playing in Saturday night's preseason opener against Kansas City, but the Browns won't know for sure until they see him. "When we think he's ready, we'll put him in," Crennel said. "If we think he's ready for two plays Saturday, he might get two plays. They'll be plays that are probably pretty simple -- handoffs."

Pit,, on the TV show All Bets are Off with Bruce Drennen said he got 7.5 million guaranteed which leaves 13 million to be paid in some fashion over the next 5 years. I'm guessing the extra 10 million or some parts of it can be earned whenever he hits certain incentives.
That kinda thing can happen anytime.. year 1 or year 5 or at any point inbetween I would suppose.... right?

Well now that I wrote that I think he got there to practice... not 100% sure... they were just showing a video of him playing, but now that I think of it that could have been from an earlier camp.
