In this thread alone, a poster is being hostile towards religious people.

I'm not being hostile towards religious people. I'm simply asking how religious people are being forced to worship "In the closet". Razor made that claim, and he ought to be able to back it up with examples. I didn't make the claim.

I have said over and over that I do not care what religion you believe in. But when you make claims about being persecuted for being Christian, which is what Razor did, then I will call you out on it.

I bring up white christian males, because that is what Razor is, the one who initially claimed that he is being forced to worship in the closet! I do not specify other religions, because other religions do in fact have proven examples of being persecuted for their religion. Jews and Muslims are two religions that I can think of off the top of my head that have every right to claim they are mistreated or persecuted for their beliefs.

But sorry, Christians just don't have right to claim any mistreatment in my opinion. Some would even call them the aggressors towards the religions that actually are mistreated.

You can complain about it all you want. But don't try and claim that your religious freedoms are being trampled and restricted, or that you're being forced to worship in the closet. Because that isn't the truth.

And I'm also not saying that you are making those claims. I'm just explaining the difference in complaining about my views on your religion, tone deaf as you say, and making false claims on religious persecution as the majority religion.

Certainly, no doubt. Everything discussed here eventually becomes a caricature of the actual topic. But in terms of real discrimination against groups; violence against them, not serving them, stripping them of their religious garb, etc., Christians are not persecuted as much as their other Abrahamic brethren.

S simple good search will allow you do so. In the search bar at the top - just type your question.

I am glad you are able to tell Christians and other people of religious beliefs how they should feel. Are you going to tell them when they are allowed to pray next?

Alright. I just did a query for examples of Christians not allowing to pray and I got this result back.

The average punishment is exactly the same fine average as that of a speeding ticket - $150.

Imagine arguing that a speeding ticket should reasonably call for a separation and detention of a parent and child.

There is no general speeding ticket or general civil offense which requires you to be held because you need to be deported.

With the folks who receive speeding tickets and civil citations, you take their information so we know who they are and where to find them and we expect them to cooperate with the judicial process... this is a completely unrealistic expectation for somebody who is here illegally..

So no, I don't see a lot of value in your analogies.

PDF, you are missing a very important part to this.. just because a civil fine may be levied, doesn't mean the original act wasn't a criminal violation.

From your own quote of the statute..

"Civil penalties under this subsection are in addition to, and not in lieu of, any criminal or other civil penalties that may be imposed."

This means that a person guilty of this offense may be fined on top of whatever criminal sentence they could be given i.e. you are sentenced to 90 days in jail AND ordered to pay a fine.

If this were purely a civil law violation, no one would be detained. They'd be given a summons and a court date and wouldn't see a single minute behind bars.

It is purely a civil violation, dude.

"Criminal or other penalties" means in addition to the statute itself (i.e. if you had drugs or guns in addition to the act of crossing). The copied and pasted is the literal law.

Trying to enter the country illegally by sneaking past immigration and customs offices is a civil offense in the U.S. for the first two attempts.

It can be classified as criminal on the third or more attempt. If you lie to an immigration official on the first attempt, it can be a criminal charge,

Current detention statistics have 91% of those detained as civil offenses.

This argument is absolutely bunk, Devil. By the letter of the law, if you try to sneak into this country, and that's the extent of the offense (i.e. no drugs or weapons, etc.), it's a civil offense.

If someone wants to argue that it *should* be a criminal offense, I'd disagree, but it's at least an argument.

Pretending a civil offense is a criminal is not.

Quote:
Criminal Penalties for Improper Entry
For the first improper entry offense, the person can be fined (as a criminal or civil penalty), or imprisoned for up to six months, or both. This is considered a misdemeanor under federal law (18 U.S.C.A. § 3559).

For a subsequent offense, or a reentry (or attempted reentry) after exclusion or deportation, the person can be fined or imprisoned for up to two years, or both. (See 8 U.S.C. Section 1325, 1326, I.N.A. Section 275, 276.) This is considered a low-level felony under federal law (18 U.S.C.A. § 3559).

Criminal Penalties for Unlawful Reentry
In case the above penalties aren't enough to deter illegal U.S. entrants, a separate section of the law adds felony penalties for reentry (or attempted reentry) in cases where the person had been convicted of certain types of crimes and thus removed (deported) from the U.S., as follows:

(1) People removed for a conviction of three or more misdemeanors involving drugs, crimes against the person, or both, or a felony (other than an aggravated felony), shall be fined, imprisoned for up to ten years, or both.

(2) People removed for a conviction of an aggravated felony shall be fined, imprisoned for up to 20 years, or both.

(3) People who were excluded or removed from the United States for security reasons shall be fined, and imprisoned for up to ten years, which sentence shall not run concurrently with any other sentence.

(4) Nonviolent offenders who were removed from the United States before their prison sentence was up shall be fined, imprisoned for up to ten years, or both.

What’s more, someone deported before a prison sentence was complete may be incarcerated for the remainder of the sentence of imprisonment, without any reduction for parole or supervised release.

(See 8 U.S.C. Section 1326, I.N.A. Section 276(b).)

Civil Penalties
Entry (or attempted entry) at a place other than one designated by immigration officers can carry civil penalties instead of or on top of criminal penalties. The amount is at least $50 and not more than $250 for each such entry (or attempted entry); or twice that amount if the illegal entrant has been previously fined a civil penalty for the same violation. (See 8 U.S.C. Section 1325, I.N.A. Section 275.)

Where are you getting that this is "purely a civil violation"?

I think that depends on the license. I've seen stores that sell no alcohol on Sunday... unless it's an owner's choice thing.

There are also dry counties and towns.

If somebody does not want to pay for a Sunday liquor license that has nothing to do with religion. Yes there may still be a few dry towns out there but that has nothing to do with religion either. Hell Jesus make wine out of water for folks to drink.

It was amended at the end of Bush's second term to be charged purely as a civil offense. It still stands, which is why none of these people are being given criminal charges.

State statues in Florida, Arizona and Nevada open the door for criminal charges (but rarely did, save for Arizona).

You know how everyone screamed about "catch and release"? That was part of the provision at the end of the Bush term that sent first-time offenders packing on civil fines.

As of now, it's still classified civil, but I wouldn't be surprised if another federal amendment came down the pike.

A Sunday liquor license isn't a religious regulation from a bygone era?

Blue laws had and have everything to do with small but vocal and organized groups of religious zealots who had sticks up their rears, but not religion or religious folks as a whole.

And there's large swaths of dry counties all over the country, dude.

What is he doing wrong? Children are separated from their parents all the time when the parents commit a crime.

Are you sure the punishment is that children are separated from their parents? Or is it the parents who are separated from their children.

Seems one and the same to me.

Where are the parents of these children going?

in my lifetime, politics have always been divisive..... as for the trump election...I think the establishment has no one to blame but themselves..ppl are sick of Washington....they don't trust Washington, and so, they elected trump.....

say whatever you want about the guy, his politics, his bluster and rhetoric, his orange hair.....but the one thing that trump understood better than anyone running for the presidency this last election. trump understood that ppl are sick and tired of the status quo; and he, and his campaign strategists played the role of a lifetime selling the people on this idea of electing an outsider. trump realized that ppl are so sick of our politicians that they were willing to elect just about anybody that could prove to them without a single doubt that they were not a politician, they had never been to Washington, and whose existence was about as outsider as one could get while still having the means to undertake a run for the most high profile office in the country....

it was an incredible sell job from a guy who makes his living in the business world...

and america bought it hook line and stinker.....

with that said, from my position, all I can do, is hope to almighty that the guy is half as smart, inventive, and competent as he has claimed to be.....and history will ultimately be the judge of whether America's latest greatest hope will have any success driving our country into the future....

politically, he is a total wildcard, you really never know what the hell he is doing....maybe that's his strategy....idk....

I think time will tell if he's really smart and savvy.....or a total dunce....

Tyler, I'm glad your back. Always enjoyed your posts.

Trump has already shown me enough to know beyond any doubt that he is not worthy of the office in any way. But I also get how he got there and you did a good job of describing it.

Yeah he is so stupid he formed a multi-billion dollar company that operates all over the world and employs 10s of thousands of people all over the world. Yep he must be a real dunce. So if a dunce can do all that, then what does that make the rest of us?

I don't drink anymore, but I currently live in one, and yes, 10% is a large swath.

1 in 10 counties in the U.S. not having Sunday or every day liquor sales is absurd.

He took a loan from his dad and burned it. He took his inheritance and burned it. He borrowed from his siblings inheritance and burned it. He then took out so many bank loans for failed deals he burned through they they forced him to sign over the rights to negotiate and strike deals because he was so bad at it that he had to resort to being a game show host and a nickel-dime con scheme guy, with no bank in the world being willing to loan him money outside of Deutsch.

If he had taken his inheritance and put it into basic stock indexes, he'd be a billionaire with no debt.

How on earth do you consider that "success" or evidence that he isn't a moron? What about "trust fund kid born on third base and getting picked off by the pitcher while scratching his ass" screams success?

No.

My point was these laws are because of a small group of religious zealots, and not because of average religious people or religion as a whole.

I never argued someone can't plan ahead to work around the needless inconvenience.

He then took out so many bank loans for failed deals he burned through they they forced him to sign over the rights to negotiate and strike deals because he was so bad at it that he had to resort to being a game show host, with no bank in the world being willing to loan him money outside of Deutsch.

If he had taken his inheritance and put it into basic stock indexes, he'd be a billionaire with no debt.

How on earth do you consider that "success" or evidence that he isn't a moron? What about "trust fund kid born on third base and getting picked off by the pitcher while scratching his ass" screams success?

He is worth 2.8 billion dollars. He has recovered and learned from his mistakes and he has taken care of his family quite well. So yes, I would say being worth Billions is certainly success financially.

Perhaps your a secret billionaire in hiding but I sincerely doubt it. I think the hate comes more from jealousy than anything else.

He already sacrificed half a billion dollars of personal wealth to save the country from the mess it was in so I tend to view him as pretty patriotic.

You can't fix stupid but you can destroy ignorance. When you destroy ignorance you remove the justifications for evil. If you want to destroy evil then educate our people. Hate is a tool of the stupid to deal with what they can't understand.

I agree. But let me ask you this. Is it impossible for your neighbor to pick up booze Monday thru Sat and then drink it on Sunday?

No.

My point was these laws are because of a small group of religious zealots, and not because of average religious people or religion as a whole.

I never argued someone can't plan ahead to work around the needless inconvenience.

I'd be quite fine with complete prohibition of all mind altering substances 7 days a week. It's not from religion either because the Bible has no problem with social drinkers. My preference comes from watching the stuff destroy so many lives that I find it sickening.

According to The Cato Institute

National prohibition of alcohol (1920-33)—the “noble experiment”—was undertaken to reduce crime and corruption, solve social problems, reduce the tax burden created by prisons and poorhouses, and improve health and hygiene in America. The results of that experiment clearly indicate that it was a miserable failure on all counts. The evidence affirms sound economic theory, which predicts that prohibition of mutually beneficial exchanges is doomed to failure.

Now IMO there were some religious zealots involved, plus a whole lot of ticked off wives sick of their hubbies blowing their paychecks in bars and staggering home drunk

A Sunday liquor license is a way for the state to make more money.

But why a Sunday?

I don't know to me I don't mind a county where drunk drivers don't account for 25% of the death toll of the cities. 2200 people in my state of Indiana died last year all by itself. Drunk driving cost the taxpayers 132 billion dollars last year alone.

It would be nice if all cars made you pass a breathalyzer to be able to start. At the least you should need to pass one to leave the bar. The lives it would save would be tremendous.

He's worth roughly $400-600 million with roughly $800 million- $1 billion in debt.

He claims he's worth $10 billion, and pays Forbes magazine yearly to inflate his worth.

Again, had he taken his father's inheritance and put it into safe and conservative stock indexes, he'd be a billionaire with no debt.

Instead he chose to pretend that he was a real estate mogul and burned himself so bad he wound up selling steaks at Sharper Image and pulling nickel-dime fraud schemes like Trump University.

So you think this guy is a "success"?

Being born into money and wasting it doesn't make you a "success", nor does it make you not an idiot.

I do alright for myself, I'll never go hungry.

But I can assure you that I'm not jealous of the fruity septuagenarian in a wig who spends his days crying about how CNN was mean to him or that Nancy O'Dell wouldn't bang him.

Not only is this bizarre gibberish, but it's factually incorrect.

He made a small profit off his campaign.

The whole Razorthorn "he's a patriotic success, are you jealous?" nonsense made think of something in a similar vein to Trump in regards to rubes who thought for years that Trump being on TV saying "I'm a very successful businessman" actually meant he was a very successful businessman...

...John Gotti.

For those that don't know, Gotti was a complete idiot that was in the Mafia, and failed at it so spectacularly from almost day one. Gotti never met a job he couldn't screw up. But he was very active on TV, and had a loud mouth, which led a lot of rubes to think "wow, this guy is The Don, he's great".

His rein was short lived, because of how dumb he was, and he got a racketeering life sentence within 5 years of offing his predecessor. But rubes saw him on TV bellowing about his success constantly and bought into the con with nothing more than Gotti's word.

So your saying it's ALMOST as dangerous as distracted driving in your state.

BTW I didn't take time to research this but I believe drunk driving rates are higher in dry areas than wet ones.
