If these kids were openly fantasizing about killing black people, deporting Mexicans and wishing that "The Purge" was real,

Is this reported somewhere or is this just you extrapolating out what kind of racist stuff these kids might have been saying?

However, when you start speaking violently and making vague threats, does freedom of speech still protect you from getting your ass kicked?

Again.. from your own article, they allegedly made disparaging comments about minorities.. you have taken it to violent and vague threats.. I've read nothing on what these teens allegedly said...

As far as the premise in question.. I would assume the guy in the restaurant would have to feel personally and immediately threatened before the law permitted him to "kick his ass"... Being offended by his comments and his hat isn't enough to justify an ass kicking..

If the threats seemed real but were more vague in nature as to committing acts of violence, then the guy in the restaurant should notify the authorities...

I saw it on multiple outlets, but I think editors are pulling quotes as they are unverified. However, when the early morning of the story, the quotes about the Purge and wanting to kill black people were in the original stories. Like I said, I'm waiting to hear more before I come to a conclusion.

Well, first off, this wasn't an ass kicking in the slightest. Dude took his hat. If a person came to a police station and reported a theft of a hat and having a drink thrown on them, they would be laughed out of the station. Cops have real work to take care of.

Eh, I'm not a fan of police states, so I'm not a big fan on calling the cops on every small thing in life.

Yes, completely in legalese. Now is having soda thrown on you equatable to someone beating their girlfriend or curbstomping someone? Absolutely not.

nope

This would be reflected in the specific charges though. Compare assault with aggravated assault, felonious assault, assault with a deadly weapon, etc.

About your comments about the victim saying terrible things about minorities: is there any actual evidence for this? Is it possible that the perp is just trying to whip up a defense for something which cannot be defended?

In any case, I don't think it can be justified for a 30 year old man to assault a teenager over words said amongst his friends, no matter how terrible those words might be. And again, this is if those words were even said to begin with.. a big if.

The report was broken within an hour of the original news report. I am very curious to see what happens with this detail. To my knowledge the guy hasn't said a word to anyone about the situation yet.

There have been other stories of Trump supporters being attacked for nothing more than wearing a MAGA hat, or similar. It's a worrying trend. I think some leftists have a "they're getting what the deserve" mindset and it doesn't actually bother them. It should bother all of us, and I would feel the same way if it happened the other way around.

And it happens the other way a lot. Fortunately the leftists on here don't clutter PP with every attack by MAGA members. It bothers me that leftists are attacking Trump members, but it bothers me more that Trump members cheer on other Trump members who attack leftists.

Yeah, they just clutter PP with every single gripe and accusation levied against Trump. There are multiple such new threads every day. All well.

When you say MAGA people attack leftists a lot, do you mean as in criticizing? Or do you mean attack as in actually physically attacking? I see a lot of the former but not so much of the latter. It could just be that I'm looking the wrong places.

Everything under the sun. From running people over with cars, to assaulting someone with their fists, not soda, to showing up at people's homes and try to coerce them into their agenda. I doubt Fox or Breitbart would ever cover such news. It's a hard time telling everyone how unhinged the left is when MAGA people still believe in #PizzaGate

They clutter it up with whatever the news story of the day is that fits their agenda... as does the right...

It doesn't surprise me at all that, when weighing the negatives, that what the Trump supporters do "bothers you more"..

There have been some horrible acts committed by the right as well and the guy who drove his car into the crowd is at the top of that list. I forget all the details on that and if he was truly a MAGA guy (e.g. open Trump supporter), but in any case, that is the kind of thing we have to be aware of. Such an act of violence cannot be normalized, but at the same time, you have to cut off lesser acts of violence as well. Otherwise things escalate.

Top Democrat Linda Sanchez says it's time for 'generational change' in dig at Nancy Pelosi

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/poli...losi/775977002/

WASHINGTON — A top House Democrat said Wednesday it was time for House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and her two long-time deputies to step aside and make way for a younger generation of leaders.

Rep. Linda Sanchez, the highest-ranking Latina in the House, first called for “generational change” last fall, but her fresh comments on Wednesday come at a time when Democrats are increasingly dissatisfied with Pelosi and uncertain about who could emerge as a possible successor.

Sanchez — currently the vice chair of the Democratic conference, the No. 5 leadership slot — also said she wants to be part of any “transition” to a new lineup.

“I think it’s time for that generational change,” Sanchez told reporters Wednesday. “I want to be part of that transition, because I don’t intend to stay in Congress until I’m in my 70s.”

Pelosi is 78 years old. The No. 2 and No. 3 House Democrats, Rep. Steny Hoyer of Maryland and Rep. James Clyburn of South Carolina, are also in their late 70s.

Sanchez suggested the trio’s continued grip on power was stymieing younger Democrats.

“I want to help create opportunities for some of the newer members, who have a lot to contribute but don’t necessarily always get the opportunity,” she said.

Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill offered a terse response: "House Democrats are focused on winning in November and if you are rowing in the opposite direction, you are only helping Republicans."

Pelosi has made it clear that she wants to be speaker again if Democrats win a majority in the mid-term elections. What's not clear is if she will have enough support, since some Democrats are campaigning on a pledge to oppose her if they win.

Sanchez’s dig also comes after Rep. Joe Crowley, a New York Democrat once seen as a possible successor to Pelosi, lost his primary in a stunning upset last month. Crowley’s defeat raised new questions about who could emerge as a successor to Pelosi, since other Democrats do not have the same broad support across the caucus.

Sanchez said she is considering a bid for Crowley’s current role, chairman of the Democratic conference, the No. 4 position.

“I think I’d do a good job as chair of the caucus but I am not prepared to make a decision,” she said. “I’m still talking with colleagues.”

Counterprotesters burn American flag outside office of Maxine Waters

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2018/07/...ine-waters.html

People chant slogans as they burn a U.S. flag outside the Los Angeles office of U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters, Thursday, July 19, 2018, in Los Angeles. (AP)

A group of counterprotesters gathered outside the California office of Rep. Maxine Waters Thursday, burning and stepping on an American flag after a group of far-right demonstrators failed to show up.

Some protesters opened the car doors while others grabbed the flag as the vehicle drove off.

The flag was then stepped on and set ablaze as someone stoked the flames. A few people cheered and someone yelled, "This is not the American flag, this is their flag."

No one was injured and police made no arrests.

Although Fox News’ attempts to contact Waters’ were unsuccessful, the California Democrat said a day earlier that “the Oath Keepers would like nothing more than to inflame racial tensions and create an explosive conflict in our community,” and she urged counterprotesters to stay away – a call that was ignored.

It remains unclear if the car that drove by Thursday was connected to the Oath Keepers.

The Oath Keepers said they would rally against the congresswoman they call a "protest terrorist inciter" early Thursday afternoon, prompting counterprotesters to show up in support of Waters.

A few dozen counterprotesters, including union workers, church leaders, South Los Angeles residents and members of activist groups, gathered outside the office around midday.

Some demonstrators chanted, “Black power,” while other held signs that read, “Resist!”

At some point during the protest, a vehicle with an American flag on the back approached and was stopped by the crowd.

Black leaders express 'profound indignation' over Dem leaders' failure to 'protect' Maxine Waters

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2018/07/...ine-waters.html

Dozens of self-identified "black women leaders and allies" wrote a letter this week excoriating top Democrats Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer for failing to "protect" embattled Rep. Maxine Waters.

The letter's signatories, including former Democratic National Committee Chairperson Donna Brazile, the Rev. Al Sharpton and former USDA official Shirley Sherrod, called Waters "Auntie Maxine" and said she is "owed an apology."

Waters, D-Calif., has not backed down from her comments calling for people to confront members of the Trump administration at department stores and any other places where they're seen in public. President Trump responded by calling Waters "crazy" and "extraordinarily" unintelligent.

Last month, Schumer, D-N.Y., said on the Senate floor that it's "not American" to call for the harassment of political opponents. And for her part, Pelosi, D-Calif., lightly rebuked Waters, saying that some responses to "Trump's daily lack of civility" have been "predictable but unacceptable."

In the letter, obtained by Politico and dated July 3, the "Black Women Leaders and Allies" charge that Schumer and Pelosi have abandoned a Democratic icon.

"We write to share our profound indignation and deep disappointment over your recent failure to protect Congresswoman Waters from unwarranted attacks from the Trump Administration and others in the GOP," the letter states. "That failure was further compounded by your decision to unfairly deride her as being ‘uncivil' and ‘un-American.'"

In a twist, the letter continues: "We call on leaders of all persuasion to practice the art of civil discourse."

The missive also represented something of a warning to the Democratic leaders.

"Much hangs in the balance this fall, with all 435 House seats and 33 Senate seats up for grabs," the letter says. "Disparaging or failing to support Congresswoman Waters is an affront to her and Black women across the country and telegraphs a message that the Democratic Party can ill afford: that it does not respect Black women’s leadership and political power and discounts the impact of Black women and millennial voters."

Waters angrily encouraged her supporters to confront Trump officials amid fierce criticism of the White House's new "zero-tolerance" policy on illegal immigrants.

Her comments came the same week White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders and Homeland Security Security Kirstjen Nielsen were pressured to leave restaurants by left-leaning advocates.

"Disparaging or failing to support Congresswoman Waters is an affront to her and Black women across the country."

- Letter to Pelosi and Schumer signed by "black women leaders and allies"

“If you see anybody from that Cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd and you push back on them and you tell them they’re not welcome anymore, anywhere,” Waters said last month, later telling MSNBC that protesters are “going to absolutely harass them.”

The letter by the black women leaders said Waters' remarks were merely a "call to action for peaceful democratic assembly and the exercise of her constitutional rights to free speech in support of defenseless immigrant children and their families."

Waters later said she was "surprised" by criticism from Democratic leaders over her statement that people should "push back" against members of the Trump administration over its immigration policy.

"One of the things I recognize, being an elected official, is in the final analysis, leadership ... will do anything that they think is necessary to protect their leadership, and so what I have to do is not focus on them," Waters told MSNBC.

Gotta give credit for effort, though.
Trying so hard to get something started.

So you only want articles YOU deem worthy of post, they should be preapproved and censored before they can be posted. notallthere

You can stomp your feet and point your finger all you want, Vambo. However, that does not change how you are obsessed w/posting articles that paints a very clear picture of portraying the groups you like or dislike. You do the same thing in the Pure Football forum.

I just wonder why would a person dedicate so much energy to such a pursuit?

Of course they "do wrong." My point is that every side has members that do "wrong." I don't like when certain posters constantly attack the GOP either.

I tend to take more of a middle-of-the-road stance and abhor the thought of assigning all-encompassing labels on entire groups of people.

There are good and bad people in every group. And here is a clue for people who constantly try and dig-up negative articles on a certain group of people as a means to get others to agree w/your point of view. It doesn't work because extreme stances on either side are a huge turnoff for those of us who have a shred of decency.
